Surely all of you who have played the Halo 3 multiplayer remember the basic training playlist, where everyone would have to go to learn how multiplayer works. Newer players had to do this in order to be involved with the full multiplayer experience in the game. I don’t recall Reach having this playlist, which is why I see an occasional recruit or two running around with anyone from field marshals to inheritors. These newer players can be a liability at times, which makes things annoying.
So community, how do you think new players should be handled? Should the “Basic Training” playlist return, or do you have any other ideas?
Discuss.
Absolutely, and it should last longer. Make you play fifty matches. Since Trueskill is actyive in the game, this would result in more accurate skill based matches once you broke into the full matchmaking.
I got into Halo during Halo 3 and I can’t express how much Basic Training helped me understand and exceed at multiplayer matchmaking.
I agree that it was useful, but I have to admit that I got pretty tired of playing Snowbound with vanilla weapons. If it is included:
More maps, perhaps 3-5
More weapons, if you aren’t gonna learn how to use 'em in basic training…when will you?
Include vehicles, for the same reason.
It was a great idea and should definitely return, but I think it should go a little further so that new players can experience a wider variety of what Halo multiplayer has to offer in a relatively safer environment.
This was brought up in another thread. Kind of a Replacement of Basic Training.

it has been such a long time I have forgotten it ever existed. probably the most rare gametype
There should be a basic training for people from recruit to warrant officers. As you become an officer, you can play other gametypes.
- Basic training wasn’t required. You could still access full multiplayer without it.
- I can’t say basic training would help you, have you seen the people in basic training. I usually come on here and sling insults, but they’re for a lack of being able to say what I would normally say “Not to Bright”. Seriously bad doesn’t even describe the kids i found in basic training.
However I’m not against basic training, I guess it is a fun way to start of in a Halo game. I remember Basic Training was my first game of Halo 3 and I went like +20. Made me happy. So sure why not have it return, I approve of it.

Of course the people in Basic Training are bad…That’s the point. Derp
Sure, I’d love to see it again.
I’d love to see it return. Especially with the new mechanics and control schemes. It would be nice if it was available longer.

Obviously. I’m stating that basic training could really serve no other purpose than to maybe make you feel good. Have your first game of Basic training and go 25-0 and you’ll be happy. Boost your spirits. That’s what I’ve seen it as. Maybe others see it differently.
I don’t really care either way. I suppose I wouldn’t mind or take any issues if it did return.
All tho noobs are fun to kill and assasinate (:D), i do agree that it should return.

It would serve that purpose to good Halo players, but such players shouldn’t be using that playlist in the first place. The “purpose” is for people unfamiliar with the game to play with others at a similar level of skill (or lack thereof); going into the playlist to go 25-0 to boost your spirits against scrub players seems a bit…cheap
I wouldn’t mind a basic training playlist. It would give new players a place to go and build their skills before hopping into real matchmaking.
It would be great to give the “new players” ;D somewhere to go outside of the normal MM so that they learn how to play, especially since it seems many new people will be coming in. It would also be great with the whole custom loadouts thing so you’re not matched up with guys who have like everything.
Id like to see it return and maybe make it optional for up to 15, 20 games if youve been absent from the game for 4 or 5 months. So you dont get destroyed your first few games back.
Oh yes, basic training is a must. To help players get acquainted with the ins and outs of Halo 4’s MP features. Features that i might add, are relativity new and depending on who you ask, total garbage/2nd coming of Raptor Jesus.
-Yoink- yes!! I suggested this a few months ago. It’ll help new players get better aquanted with the game.
