To preface this, I played Splitgate for the first time last night and it has an option for Autosprint, which I immediately turned on. And I gotta say, I liked it a lot, as it allowed me to free up my LS button for a different action.
There are a lot of reasons Splitgate is going to be compared to Halo Infinite, aside from the portal system a lot of it’s mechanics are surprisingly near-identical to Halo’s. It even has a base sprint-speed that is barely any faster compared to it’s base walk speed like Infinite does. The biggest differences being you can cancel sprint and start firing with any weapon instantly, where in Infinite you can only fire instantly out of sprint with non-power weapons and that base movement in Infinite doesn’t ping the motion tracker.
Honestly if they simply made it so every weapon could fire out of sprint, and base movement pinged the radar (which it already should and needs to be changed anyway) I’d love to have Autosprint be an option in Infinite. This may be the first time since I joined Halo’s forums back on B.net in 2006 that I’ve ever suggested something straight from another game but I’d like to have the LS freed up for something more useful in the moment, like switching nades or pinging.
To me, with the changes Sprint has already received to be more widely accepted by anti-sprinters like myself, removing the need to press a button to move at max speed in general is the next step to delivering the more classic movement mechanics we’ve been waiting for.
