While watching some gameplay, I noticed that assists were only worth +5 points where as basic headshots were worth +10 and grenade kills were +15 (I think). If assists were worth more, players might be more encouraged to put shots on their opponents, even if they can’t win their individual battles. This would promote better teamplay.
If you paid close attention, you might have noticed that assists were popping after shooting someone only once. I think that’s more than enough incentive to put a shot into everyone in the group before they fall over dead either by your hand or your teammates. 5 points will be plenty for that considering it’ll be possible (through great team work) to regularly achieve more assists as a team than there were kills.
It’s like they decided that it needed to be easier to get assists than it was in Halo 3…
Yes, I think assists should give more. BUT, I don’t like getting ambushed by three opponents, and then tbagged.

I feel like it should be worth the exact amount of damage you did to the enemy, rounded down.
For example, if you did 90% damage to the enemy before your teammate finished them off, then you should get a +9 points. However, the damage percentage should be rounded down, and the assist shouldn’t appear if you don’t do more than 40% damage, like in Reach.
When you think of it from a team perspective, you getting that +5 points for assist means that your teammate got, let’s say +10 points for finishing off the kill. That equals a combined total of +15 points for your team. If assists gave you +10 points, the same as kills, it would be like getting two kills for one real kill. Therefore, two players working together could continue to get +20 points for each kill, resulting in a win that would take half the amount of kills it normally would.
I think +5 points for an assist is just fine as it is. In fact, if what Zinastin says about 1 shot = an assist, it should be less even.

Agreed! Grenade kills should not be +15 people can spam grenades and get kills but it takes more skill to get a headshot, but getting on the point yes the assists are fine where they are.

Takes two assists to make a kill. kill = 10 points. Assists = 5. no the math is fine. Last thing you want is teams lining up to take one shot each for the assists over straight kills.
And since sprees add even more points, and there’s so many contributors to the assist spree “wingman”, combined with the part where grenade pickups from dead players is available only from a speciliasation, perhaps you are just over thinking things in an old fashioned way of combat versus the newer and evolved Infinity system.
