To be honest I have to get this out and say I absolutely dislike halo 5’s variant designs as I feel like it really ruins the armor match ups with some of the patterns.
A prime example in my eyes is the Argus, Hunter & Helljumper, I really like their designs but I find it very odd matching with the helmets due to the weird random stripes of white and darker tones of the secondary colour, It just sort of kills the mood of making my unique armor cause everything always has to have some weird think splattered onto it, like the Jester’s legendary variant, has odd ball throwning pattern on the chest which I just find off putting.
I just feel like perhaps for the next FPS halo game to just relies on different armors than different variants, this could perhaps save up some memory space for the xbox as well as it doesn’t need to keep all these carnage of 2-8! variations of the thing (Looking at you Mark’s) just have a locus, be a plain locus design, have a help jumper BE a plain helljumper like what buck wears, don’t alternate it to get it’s unique looks cause it just really bugs me and perhaps others.
I agree. Things like white paint and darkened secondary color take away the player’s control over the color of their armor, which isn’t good. And there are certainly way too many Mark variants. I wouldn’t mind if armor re-skins never came back.
The white paint needs to go. The different patterns I’m alright with, especially if there’s enough difference that you can tell what variation you have from afar. We dont need so many though, maybe one extra like in Halo 4.
Instead, give us modular equipment attachments, like Reach had. Not entirely seperate armor peices with them I mean, but the same armor…but you can put pouches and things on it.
I’d like to see armor variations return to how they were done in Reach, because every part of the Spartan’s aesthetic was tailored to the player, and as you leveled up, new options became available, and additionally you could choose to spend earned points on upgrades, so people at the same rank don’t necessarily have the same armor permutations unlocked.
Or at least they could have the armor designs be one option, and have another that’s the pain pattern, so rather than unlocking the same armor with different paint multiple times, when you unlock an armor, you’d be free to apply any paint patterns you’ve unlocked to it.
It sucks playing halo 5 and getting a gold pack, only to unlock it and suddenly get a variation of an armor that you already have. Feels like 343i just added these variations just to make people think “oh wow, so many armors to unlock”
They should go. The design style reminds me more of Warframe than a Halo game. Militaries have several sets of equipment and uniforms for different branches or tasks, but normally the equipment used by one military is quite similar to the rest of it.
It really should go but it won’t go. Assuming that req packs will be returning in one form or another, they’ll add every possible thing they can into that req pool. Even if it means like 5 out of place variations of the same armour.

Actually, it was probably to make people think “oh wow, I’m nowhere near unlocking all the armors because there are so many of them. I’m getting impatient with this tedious grind, so I’m going to give 343 more money by purchasing a req pack. Hooray microtransactions”

Unfortunately, I think you’re right. Just another reason why I hope the req system doesn’t come back in Halo 6.

Couldn’t agree more. Also, this is how I feel about visors, too. Visors, like armor variants, should be distinguishable at a glance.

Personally, I think they should have Armor variants and Pattern Variants. So once you unlock the Armor, you have the plain variant. Then you can unlock various Pattern Variants but can apply that to any of your unlocked Variants.
My main issue with halo 5’s armor system is that nothing feels unique to me, like with the helioskrill, I love that armor and the fact I earned it without being a Pay 2 Style guy, It felt rewarding to wear but now pfft, you see those armors everywhere and I just ask “what is the point”.
Is the armor system going to change? in my honest opinion, no. 343i, no matter what are making a truck-load of cash from these micro-transactions and will more likely milk our money more and more like with H:Wars 2 squad power ups, so all in all, I guess we’re going to get more REQ ARMORS + overloads of bad variants to ruin the armor but hey, if halo 6 has elites? sod it, I’ll just main the elite, no matter how ugly the armors turn out to be.
Also, noticed you get EVERY PLAYABLE’s CHARACTER armor in the campaign, except chief’s, why is that?
No, just cut down on the reskins of armour no one uses (like 3 or 4 variations of Nomad lmao). Make the first armour the plain REQ one that displays in the select screen, then have a sub menu of reskins and attachments unlocked through commendations and/or rank
Have the same thing for the helmets tbh
BUT some helmets/armours don’t have variations and need options added, like the Icarus. Let me choose the checkered pattern that’s on the second CE helmet if I so desire, please
Get rid of some at least im ok if a few stay but there shouldn’t be 4 different variants of one armor and instead of variants just add vinyls like flames and stripes and be able to choose where you want them on your spartan like I would put flames on both of my arms and both legs and my helmet or stripes
