Should Armor Cores Restrict Customization?

  • Cosmetics should be able to be used regardless of armor core
  • Cosmetics should locked to specific armor cores

The only reason armor and attachments should be restricted to certain cores is if there’s clipping issues with certain cores. Otherwise armor, attachments, and coatings should be enabled on all cores.

I posted something on twitter just a few minutes ago addressing this… There are currently clipping issues in the fireteam lobby, even though armor pieces are restricted to cores. I don’t think there is any excuse to not let us customize freely at this point.

Yes and No

Armour coatings should be universal, not how it is rn, same for Visors, if armour effects can be universal, so too should the colour schemes and visors.

but the actual armour pieces should remain consistent with their generational aesthetic, while sharing similar armour pieces but within that aesthetic of the armour core. ala Mark VII & Mark V Recon

Totally agree. I get why Reach wrist attachments don’t go on Mark VII. But helmets, visor colors, etc, that stuff definitely should be mix and match.

So lets assume the viewpoint of “its a business it has to generate money” Let me show a problem with the current system from THAT viewpoint that I just realized from looking over the pass.

I like most of the pieces of the MK V(b) core. I would like to use many of them, but there’s a problem. There’s only 1 color scheme I want to use, and it is restricted to MK VII cores and is free, plus the helmet I want (one of the most noticeable items to customize on your spartan) is also, you guessed it, the MK VII helmet, which is also free.

So i want a enough of the items within the premium portion of the battlepass to warrant a purchase…but I can’t use them alongside the color I want because of the core restrictions…as a result, I do not buy the pass since I wouldn’t be able to use the items I’d be buying it for.

I’m in a similar situation right now. I like all the Reach items from the battle pass because I can recreate my Spartan from that game (minus the operator helmet :pensive:). The only problem is, in the store there is a knife chest attachment like in Reach, but it can only be used with MK VII armor. I would gladly buy the knife to complete the look of my Reach Spartan, but i can’t use it. It’s so frustrating.

Short answer: no

Long answer: noooooooooooo

Locking customization between cores only serves to restrict customization, there isn’t really a compelling justification to do so even if the armor pieces look out of place on one core.

Exactly. This is honestly my biggest problem with this game. I’d be able to forgive the ingame store, and maybe even the awful battle pass progression system if I could at least use whatever armor I wanted too.

That’s what I don’t understand about this whole thing. Maybe they thought they could sell us the same item twice? But I doubt they make more than if they made more items cross core compatible for precisely the reasons you mentioned. Heck, even if you were one of those “whales” who buys almost everything, why would you buy items you couldn’t use on your armor? To show off by taking screenshots of your armor customization menu? That’s the only way people would know, as they won’t see it in game.

Some but not all things should be lied to cores.
The coating system is horse plop also.
