Should all coatings cost the same amount or should they vary on the design? If so, how much a difference?

Considering that coatings have access to be more then just stripes like previous Halo games, they have the potential to look incredibly unique. We have seen a mix of really good ones and bad ones. Currently now coatings have taken place as Infinite’s main source of rarest cosmetic content. But should they all be around the same price? Or should they ever cost more than another and if so, how much more?

We shouldn’t have to pay to be colors, plain and simple.

I think people would have been fine if they just allowed us to pick the colors for everything and made it that coatings were more along the lines of patterns on the Spartan. As well as the ability to pick how dirty our Spartan appears duiring matches as well, adding mud, grime, scrapes, plasma burns, ect to the armor from a slider. Texture options too perhaps.

Then they could probably have unlocks and what not done for more complicated patterns perhaps, ones that allow you to specifically pick colors for each individual part of the pattern.

It would have added lots of customization options for everyone and creative freedom at least.

I should never ever have to pay for a color. I should more so never have to pay for the colors I’ve been for over a decade.

I partially disagree. Colors can be worth money, but it depends on the design. I also on’t believe its worth anything alone if it doesn’t signify any special meaning.

I don’t think they actually made anyone buy anything that is specifically your colors for the past decade.

Considering the community, they mainly ever just want to dress black/white and colored stripes as they did for over the past decade.I feel like Infinite’s potential to showcase new creative designs can really show player expression.

It always pains me how open and free the Destiny community is with their shaders. Even though there are definitely black shaders in that game too, only in the Halo community do I see people complain its not the shade of black they want.

On another note, choosing your grim sounds like a good choice too. Sometimes liking a color pattern but don’t like it shiny.

Is the granular coming to shop or monarch that could make them some money

Happy medium:

Free options:

  • armor colors
  • polish (how dirty your armor is)

Paid Options

  • MOST color patterns ( Ex: watchdog’s color pattern and that Neon coating use a different primary and secondary)
    – we should still have a few options to play with
  • MOST materials (metal, carbon fiber, etc.)
–again, you should still have options that are given for free. I add this b/c if you compare the Season 1 HCS sets, their armor looks ?different?. like i swear, they don’t look like the normal armor material and more carbon fiber looking

Coatings feel a bit more useful for weapons and vehicles…except you can technically still use above. a slider for how dirty your armor is would be good, and maybe have a check box for “Mint” or “Factory New” to give that polished look. tho this does not factor in armor coatings like that diamond one…except you can have that as a material, to which enables you to change its color. like imagine having blood diamonds.

but one can dream ;-;

Don’t confuse colors with patterns.
The entire system should have been color customisable patterns being sold.
No one pays for colors, all of them unlocked straight out the gate.

But you tell me. Halo has been going strong since 2015 without customizable patterns, players wouldn’t want or need to buy them if they had their simple stripe colors.

Its the same argument but justbin favor of how the community feels.

Different types of patterns have been suggested since Halo 3 which had three color choices for the armor, with the secondary and tetriary colors being barely noticeable. People wanted more out of those colors and it’d have been great to choose different, if only, simple patterns to apply to the armor and choose colors for.

Armor Coats are merely different patterns with locked colors.
i343 went ahead chose to not make armor coats color customizable despite that having been an amazing move towards customization and “players first”.
Each section in the “Armor Coat” icon would be color customizable and represent a cut out area for the armor. Instead of having ten “Basic coats” called “Cadet” as we have now, we could’ve gotten one single Cadet coat, which we could change color on as we saw fit. Then if they had a proper ranking system, there could be a Sergeant Coat, Corpral Coat etc for us to unlock and change how it’d look.

Purchase patterns, then use all the free colors to change it as we wanted.
Just because Halo was “going strong since 2015 without customizable patterns”, doesn’t mean they couldn’t improve and make a far better system than we’ve had before.

Huh?

Better idea, just get rid of coatings and give us a primary and secondary color system. It still baffles me to this day what the thought process behind that decision was.

Theres an immense reasoniny why I think coatings are better, but ill sum it down to just:

Coatings provide more color expression than 2-color stripes.

I agree, but why not allow players to create their own coatings?

I think it just sounds better on paper. You would have to think of all color variants, textures, patterns, all the layers on the armor from suit to armor, then which armor piece…

But then overall, you can refer back to CoD Black Ops 2 when you can create your own emblem on your gun and profile… do you know how toxic and taken advantage that was? Take that into the account in Halo of your own shaders and the atrocities that could happen.

Besides, behind those atrocities is just probably players that just wont even use 90% of the function and stick with black and blue stripes.

Yep. I’ve said it before, but I’ll repeat it again.

Infinite’s customization should have been allowed players more control over their looks:

  1. Patterns: Control the distribution of you primary and secondary colors. This can be stuff like camo, stripes, flames, or simple things like the Cadet series or Scorpion Punch.

  2. Colors: You can change the 2 main colors of your armor. H5 also has some armors with unchangeable extra colors.

  3. Texture: Choose if you want clear, dirty, dusty, muddy, scratched, burned, or plasma cuts on your armor. These are also built into the coatings and you can’t change them.

The coatings should be removed, this is obvious from both the perspective of a player, and a business perspective. I system like halo reach, where players could choose their own colors is the best solution. Players can choose their own basic colors, but can’t make their own complex designs. Then make some desirable color designs for the players to buy or earn. Not only would the change in the system make players more interested in cosmetics (the main selling point of the live service), creating more desire for other selections, but it would also bring the game more attention as well. I have some experience in modeling and textures so I can’t imagine it would be all that hard to make an armor design or decal that people would want to buy. Go about the armor pallets like gun cosmetics in countless other games, create cool and desirable patterns. It’s the best path overall.

If I would argue on this. the current coating system should be remove. Being that no way to change the primary/secondary/tertiary/etc. colors, coatings are core locked (as far as i know. haven’t been up to their patches since like October), and no way of customizing dirtyness and material

Frankly I did say it here a week, but spun it as a happy medium, but IMO id MUCH rather have this all free

But the coating system we have now, send it to the shadow realm lol

No, it should just be expressed more. if anything, each piece should have a coating in them too. Head, torso, left/right arm, left/right leg.

No. I wanna pay more money when some dev increased the metallic value in the material editor :facepunch:
