Should a new disc of Halo 4 be given to us?

TL;DR at bottom

First of all I would like to say, I don’t want to whine about the obvious stuff already in the forums too much.

I think the BR/DMR thing is stupid, I use a bit of both and I think that they are pretty equal, you can scope mid-range with BR without being able to see the other guys nose hair and if you do that correctly, it can put an advantage over DMR so they have their niches. although, I’m not sure of the amount of use a Carbine has… if you like it use it, and I don’t know maybe it does have an advantage I don’t know about?

The boltshot, stop whining… you shouldn’t be getting that close to people that often for it to be a “game-breaker” unless you are a shotty spammer or bolt-shot guy yourself in which case, you were just out-played.

However… I AM surprised at the amount of odd bugs/inconsistencies in the game at launch…
Patches are NOT a reason to be lazy with the final product and I don’t know exactly how MLG set up their games and I’m not sure how many people will not have access to LIVE with this game but I do know that as a matter of principle, a game should work well without having to have a patch… nobody expects perfection but they also expect most things to work
(see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQHdYqp_E4A&feature=g-u-u which I saw from another post just now).

bear in mind that when GH3 was released on Nintendo WII it didn’t support Dolby Surround Sound, so they re-manufactured a new batch of discs and not only replaced shop stock but ALSO sent a copy out to anybody who had alread bought the game (obviously, providing P&P to send their original copy in).

Now with all of these bugs and the fact that I think that it is quite bad that the game is so weird on launch, I think that when everything is resolved that 343i should copy this idea and “fix” the stock discs people have now?

Does anybody agree with me, I mean if Activision or whoever was responsible for GH3 can do it, these guys can too right? and that was just for support of surround sound. (I’m aware that Nintendo wii didn’t support game patches… sucks for those guys, doesn’t invalidate my point)

I think the game is good, I like it and I’m not going to trade it in or stop playing it, but this was just something I thought would be good of 343i because of their ‘oversights’.

Perhaps the next batch of discs will have the patches hard-written to them, in which case… shouldn’t have bought it at launch?

TL;DR

GH3 on the Nintendo WII sent out replacement discs to game-owners to support Dolby Surround Sound, Shouldn’t 343i send out patched discs to people who own Halo 4 to fix the strange bugs?

Hah, that would be something.

> Hah, that would be something.

I’m just a bit concerned with games nowadays… like how everything we do is stored online…

Want to play Spartan Ops one day in the future after the H4 servers are retired? you wouldn’t be able to

Yeah I dont know why they didnt have Spartan Ops playable offline I mean I know they want to roll it out in a weekly fashion to keep people around but they still could have made it playable offline.

> Yeah I dont know why they didnt have Spartan Ops playable offline I mean I know they want to roll it out in a weekly fashion to keep people around but they still could have made it playable offline.

I expected a dlc for each episode…
Across the 20 “chapters” there are only eight unique maps, of which all are taken from multiplayer maps and campaigns… I also don’t enjoy Spartan ops as much as I enjoyed Firefight in the other games.

Spartans Ops offline with 4 buddies would be my ideal situation. Wish it was a feature I could use offline from a game I bought.

Ok first of all how do you expect them to verify/ship everyone with halo 4 a new disc? It’s not even feasible. Second of all they can fix all that in a Title Update. (unlike wii)

With GH3, they sent you a pre-paid envelope and sent out the new copy once they had recieved yours, similar to an Xbox360 repair.

I know that title updates are available, but they shipped an unfinished product, some customers do not have access to the internet and would like to play the game with all of the flaws ironed out.

Perhaps I will want to play Halo 4 in 40 years, similar to how some people now might want to go back an play 40 year old games from when they were young, it won’t be the same game.

This seems silly now, but look at how large TU affected Halo Reach and Halo 3, the small updates compounded and especially with the few large updates, the games are not the same as if I cleared my cache and refused an update.

I understand that part of the service that is Xbox LIVE we are given an ever-changing game experience, but I feel I should be given a game that is at the very least robust enough to survive as a standalone product should I choose not to use Xbox LIVE.

Finally, I’m not complaining seriously, I know that they will not send us a replacement disc and I know that updates are how things are now, I expect in the future that digital distribution will be larger and games we want to play will be impossible to play but I was just musing about how little control we have over a product we get on a disc and how different it is when compared to last generation of games.

They did that for the wii because it doesn’t have a hard drive. That is the only reason. So don’t ever try to use it as some example of how anyone else should ever do the same on any other system.

The Nintendo Wii had 512mb of NAND flash memory…
I know that, I know that very well, perhaps better than a lot of other people.
The nintendo Wii also had ways of getting DLC onto the system, there are games and in-game content available.
The GH3 “hard patch” was also not a neccesity it wasn’t broken, it was just an extra feature provided, they provided this feature to show good customer service, which means the limitations of the platform are not accountable.

It was also JUST an example, my points still stand that on the disc I own, before any services provided by Microsoft or 343i are taken into account, the game is unfinished.

I would just like to now that the game on my disc is as good as it could have been, I’ll also point out that I said before, I am not asking for, nor do I expect 343i to do this… I was just wondering about the other opinions of players.

Perhaps some who understand the potential problems with title updates and digital distribution of content?

Yes you would. If you look on your HDD in Halo 4 there is “Spartan Ops Season: 1” so once you buy it then as each episode comes out, then they are stored on your HDD.

Bungie once did this for one of their games prior to Halo. wink

Interesting that Spartan Ops is stored on the hard drive?
I wonder if it would be playable without the Halo servers up then?

Which game did bungie do this with in the past?
