Honestly, I feel like 343I is just ruining the saga by changing the looks. Sure sure the story is the important thing, but characters are NOT the same without their original looks. Professor Anders was supposed to be an Asain brunette and captain Cutter was supposed to have a different facial structure along with white facial hair.
The reason why I think it ruins the saga because 343I is basically pulling a middle finger towards the original characters and saying, “hey we are changing your looks, Anders you are no longer Asain, you’re a white blonde and Cutter, your mustache is dumb and we would like to remove that. Thank you”
Seriously why change character looks? That’s the one thing I do not understand and it bothers me a lot. I mean sure, letting go of the same looks makes it more creative and artistic along with all the BS, but what about the other sagas? How come 343I didn’t change captain Lasky’s looks from Halo 4-5?
I just don’t get it. They might as well just start a brand new story with this and scrap the first HW. Sure MC’s looks have changed, but he’s been himself this whole time. It’s like Anders just turned into a white blonde. Which she did…
I will never enjoy HW2 because of this…

Hey I get that there is a reason, but I don’t understand the reason. The least 343I could have done was keep Anders identity. Because she’s Asain, but now she’s back,
in white. Which I just don’t get. Its the most bothering thing for me.

Her appearance is modelled off of the actress voicing her. The actress voicing her isn’t Asian.

I think vurgerr understands that, but the original in game character was Asian so it is weird to change it. Just because the voice actress changes doesn’t mean that the racial identity of the character has to as well.
Wish they kept it like Halo wars 1 but ur gonna get half xxx excuses to why they changed appearance
It’s all superficial and has no effect on the story or gameplay, so it doesn’t bother me.
Look no further than real-life character changes such as Dumbledore in Harry Potter.
> Dumbledore is portrayed by Richard Harris in the film adaptations of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. After Harris’ death, Michael Gambon portrayed Dumbledore for all of the remaining films.
I actually think that Gambon was a better fit for the role, and the same could end up being true of Mr. Gideon.
there should be a I dont care option for the voting poll, because it doesn’t really bother me that much…

Philosophers stone? Lol and big difference is the original dumbledore died and they were forced to replace him, they didn’t need to change cutters look because they were forced, they did because they wanted to

They changed the voice actors because the original actors couldn’t come back due to scheduling problems. If you don’t have an available cast, than you are forced to find new actors. That’s what happens when you wait 8 years to make a sequel.

I knew about the voice actor I meant they wanted to change his look

They are modeled after the voice actor to be more realistic. The first halo wars had completely computer generated faces, whereas this uses the actors face as a base. Read the community update linked on the first page of the thread. They didnt “want” to change the look. they had to change the look to use the technology that is available nearly ten years after the last game came out.

This kind of makes sense.
I bet it’s a lot easier to use motion capture on the face abd record natural mouth movements as well as other body language to make it natural than to use motion capture and then remodel the face, or perhaps end up with awkward poses for the face when it’s modeled differently than the actor’s face.
Time, money and frustration saving.
They always have the nano-bot fallback if all else fails /s
TBH I don’t mind that they changed the characters because unlike, for example H2A, the characters ~mostly~ retain their same identities. I mean in HW1 Anders was this really fit and outgoing scientist chick with some neat curves, something she still is just less asian.
Cutter still looks like a grizzled veteran even though he looks to be more in his late forties rather than his late fifties like in HW1.

Well couldn’t they have picked someone who is actually in there 50’s and at least resembles the original cutter?not some guy who is in his 30s who looks nothing like the original, computer generated or not
“I hate how Captain Cutter and Professor Anders look and sound in Halo Wars 1”
-No One Ever
Okay, seriously, saying “the technology improved” and “the characters have to look exactly like the voice actors” are completely -Yoink- answers, (just like why the MC’s armor is so different and the aliens are so disgusting to look at in “halo” 4 onward). I can understand to some degree the way people look and sounds should have some correlation, but at the same time I don’t recall hearing any complaints about the way the characters looked and sounded in the HW cutscenes.
I can understand maybe you can’t get the same voice actor, but that doesn’t mean you have to completely change how they look. I hated Johnson’s look in H1A, and although Truth’s voice matches his personality in H3, I don’t like how it did a complete 180 from H2, and MC was a complete slap in “halo” 4.
What I don’t get here is if 343i/CA couldn’t get the same voice actors more make them look the same, why use them? I would at least prefer more honest answers (343i ain’t ever going to give any), and they also would have been perfectly okay creating new characters instead.
I also hate how obsessed how this franchise keeps trying to go forward past 2553 and dragging characters that look, act, and sound different from how they should.
I mentioned this in another post but I wouldn’t be surprised if the definitive edition updated the cut scenes in HW1 with the HW2 actors/actresses. I like the originals better but it would make sense.
I will point out that 343 did not decide to change it. Creative Assembly and Blur decided on the change because it would be easier, cheaper and less time consuming.
