By now it’s known that not everyone was pleased with the way the Infinite demo looked. Despite it being a demo, people seemed to have an issue with it looking current gen as opposed to next gen. Should 343 release photos of the current build, since what was shown was months old, to lessen concerns?
I’m not sure they care to
I think this screenshot is of the newer build. https://cdn3-www.gamerevolution.com/assets/uploads/2020/07/halo-infinite-screenshots.jpg

If that pic is from a newer build, then that’s seriously concerning.
I’m fine with waiting for the multiplayer reveal to see what the newer build looks like.
I don’t think I’ve seen any confirmation on how old that build actually is, but since they said it was representative of the Series X, I’m thinking that while the newer builds may be an improvement, they won’t so drastically different from what we were shown. I think the biggest changes will unfortunately come post-launch with the ray tracing update among others.

Yeah, I think if the graphics aren’t great at launch, they’re gonna put out patches like ray tracing and maybe even textures to fix up the graphics. I don’t think MS wants to move the release date.

This picture is for me the prime example of how the graphics of this game are a huge concern. It just screams graphical problems I don’t know why 343 decided to show this. It does not not help to sell the brand new console, the brand new engine and the brand new game. I think they need to show new images to prove the graphics have been improved at least to chill the community out.
I think an update on work that’s happened from a lead on the visual effects team and a lead on the lighting team would be a good alternative to screenshots.
Two things are helping me stay pumped.
- The story and gameplay seem great from the small but we’ve seen. I won’t know more until I see some MP footage tbh.
- Greenberg indicated 343 have weekly build meetings with executives, which is great because that means they have the dev flexibility to do multiple testing deployments pretty rapidly. That’ll let them be very productive between now and launch.

Weekly meetings and sprints, while common in tech, also raises concern for me. Almost as if they’re having to be babysat.

I don’t see why they would need to release photos just to make people feel better. There will be photos soon enough in the advertising of the game. They can wait.

Which still doesn’t look brilliant.

It depends on what it is. If exec’s are in their daily SCRUMS then that’s a ridiculous red flag. If they have a weekly 1-2 hour meeting with exec’s on builds, that forces them to make progress. I don’t personally think the meetings as they were described are a bad sign, especially this close to launch.

Why did they show us how good this engine can look. Then give is a demo that looks like this? There is a HUGE difference in graphics from the demo last year.
Considering the release is 4 months away, I cannot believe we haven’t seen anything about the game until now (other than the 2019 e3 reveal). Taking into consideration the less than optimal graphics displayed in the demo and lack of any details on the game until now, I am starting to wonder if 343i have been behind schedule for quite some time.

My reasoning is;
-
They chose an art style that felt closer to Halo CE.
-
When they increased the scale to open world they had to reduce the overall graphics stress on the system. The new engine and Xbox series X are both relatively immature… and it won’t be until the 3rd or 4th generation of games that we see it’s true power. Unfortunately what we see is what we get. At 4K and 60fps the system is being stretched (witness the pop-in / level of detail / basic lighting).
I like the direction they are taking… and we have a few more months to spit and polish.
And most importantly we have the lifetime of the console to tweak the game engine.

I hope they have a FPS/Fidelity setting like pubg. It looks so much better while running at a very playable lower fps
Hot take: their demo was probably weeks old, not months.
Also, just watch any other Series X exclusive and see how it looks. It looks next gen because it was built specifically for it. Infinite was given the perfect storm to “wow” its its audience with a simultaneous technology launch…but with its lackluster visuals I don’t see the point to upgrade. I imagine a lot of potential Series X owners are second guessing the new box (among Halo fans).
Who knows, if the demo was Series X comparable I’m a little scared to find out how my X1X is going to run it.

I mean rightfully so. Their employee turnover rate has been pretty high the past few months. The work environment there is not the best right now.
