This is something that comes to mind often and I’m interested to see if others agree, I believe it would be a good idea to see 343 start their own IP in the same vein as titanfall from call of duty
343’s strong handling of the halo IP/ universe puts aside the visuals, audio design and ideas that bungie and co used to make the Halo series what it was. They seem to often try very hard to make changes and push halo into being something of their own.
This makes me think if they had their own IP it would be much better as they could move in their strong direction without sacrificing elements of a pre existing universe and I would be interested in the result
343’s sole purpose was to continue the Halo franchise, the were set up by Microsoft explicitly for that purpose. If Microsoft wanted a new IP then I’m sure they would have set up a new company to do that. 343 are explicitly for Halo
Yeah I’ve thought this before, they were set up exclusively to do Halo as a said above, but so many changes and decisions make it seem like they are trying to morph the IP over time to something unrecognizable.
I think they could do very well as a new IP dev, they obviously have many talented people and some great new ideas. And we’ve seen what happens when something is changed, nerfed, buffed, redesigned, etc. They aren’t so much stewards of the franchise that older fans love unfortunately, but anyway I doubt it’ll ever happen. 343 will either get smart and learn from the mistakes and questionable decisions, or they’ll run the franchise into the grave, another experiment like Halo 4 and I’ll dig it myself.

Precisely, you would think that their main focus would have been to uphold what halo’s core identity was, otherwise there really isn’t any point in continuing it at all.
A new sci fi universe with their identity and direction would be something that could gather its own following, likely even halo fans included, and at the same time they won’t be alienating anyone

Exactly, but you look at Bungie though and wonder how hard it is, they made Destiny into something that could have been great, but now seems to be slowly dying for lack of content. Creating something like Halo may have been a one off fluke, Bungie themselves hadn’t planned on a sequel and were shocked that it took off like it did. I wonder if 343 has the talent and creativity to create their own, right now it seems fair to say that they’re ripping off the last developers work almost.
I’m sure thats something they’re going to consider after H6, but I did hear they wanted a third saga (H7-9) so who knows. A new IP after H6 would be cool.

Their company name is a Halo character…wouldn’t it be a bit weird for them to have a non-halo IP? lol

I don’t think most people know that. Most assume that they bought halo.

It seems that way because they are trying to make it there own instead of doing what has already been done.
