Should 343 add "press X to pickup the flag?"

If Capture the flag has to be the way it is, where you can’t drop the flag, then do you think that 343i should make it so you would have to press X (or whatever your pickup button is) to pickup the flag? The reason I ask is because I’ve been watching the MLG pre-release Halo 4 tournament, and I’ve already seen a few people carrying a power weapon accidentally step over the flag, and effectively take the power weapon out of the game. If you needed to hold a button to pick up the flag, this problem would be fixed fairly easily.

Also, I tried to make this a poll, but I’m not a very frequent poster here, so I don’t know how this site works all too well. If anyone else could make this into a poll to better guage the community, I would appreciate it!

So what do you guys think? My vote is YES, they should make you hold a button to pick up the flag.

damn, I saw the button to press to make this a poll, and when I went back to edit some text, it apparently already posted this… I’ll try again later lol

Definitely. I hate the new CTF gametype, it is nothing like the classic one in every other Halo game which I know and love.

If it had a “Hold X to pick up flag” button, it’d be better and even add more skill to the gametype.

I honestly think that it should be like Halo: Combat Evolved. When you walk over the flag it is yours and when you drive a vehicle the flag stays with you. I am rather tired of waiting for a horrible team to come and pick me up.

And where, exactly, is the reasoning behind that?

If you don’t want to pick up the flag, why are you running over it? Seems like bad awareness to me. I was really skeptical about Halo 4 flag and this tournament has really turned my outlook on it around. Nonetheless always having an option to turn it on or off in customs would be best. If I had to choose one or the other I would say to leave it as is, though.

I’m diggin the new flag mechanics, but 343i definitely needs to add “Hold X to pickup”.

I support this topic.

Yes, I’m not liking the whole auto-pickup situation.

You have to hold down a whole button instead of being aware that you’re next to the flag, duh.

Let’s say you have rockets and pick up the flag, and you get killed. Due to the way you get killed, it could be very possible for the rockets you drop to be on the flag you drop as well, meaning a team mate (or you) could not pick them up even if you wanted to.

Unless grabbing the flag literally deletes any weapons you had. Can anyone offer insight?

This…^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

If they don’t want to go for the flag, and go for the actual objective, why are they playing an objective-based gametype? Picking up the flag isn’t the worst thing in the world, it’s what you’re supposed to do in CTF.

I like the new mechanic, personally.

Why? I don’t see the point,I never ran into the flag unless I ment to pick it up. I vote no or don’t care.

i think in an interview, one of the 343 employees said that if the new CTF gametype doesnt work out then it can be patched

Accidents happen? What if you’re escorting a team mate and he’s beside you, you have a power weapon, he dies, and you pick it up, how is that your fault? It isn’t.

Auto-pickup is a bad idea, plain and simple.

Well the people that I’ve seen lose their power weapons were people that were escorting the flag carriers. Player’s paths cross up pretty often when escorting, and all it takes is one sniper bullet to drop that flag carrier, and force the escort to pick up that flag, In tight corridors like on Adrift, this has been a larger issue. I’ve seen players holding the rockets that were in one of the small hallway nooks when the flag dropped right at their feet, so they’d have to press themselves against the wall until someone else picks it up, in order to keep those rockets in play. It’s in situations like these that I would like to see that “press X to pick up flag” pop up on the screen.

Explain.

In a situation like that, holding power weapons doesn’t really matter. If the flag carrier is killed then it is your duty as an escort to collect the flag (potentially forfeiting your power weapon) and lead your team to victory in the original carrier’s place.

What good would it do to wait around with rockets while waiting on another person to collect the flag when you could do it yourself?

It should probably be a control setting rather than a gametype setting.

Definitely. Frankly it is a major oversight on 343’s part. No flag Drop and Auto pick up should not coexist.

The pickup radius for one is too large.

If the flag is dropped in a corridor you can’t squeeze past without picking up the flag, effectively blocking off that corridor if you’re not ready for a flag run. If the flag carrier dies holding a power weapon you can’t pick it off the ground because there is a flag on top of it and in the way.

I just don’t see any good logic for keeping Auto pick up. It is just annoying.
