I think it would be a great idea if 343 added some sort of custom games filtered search menu to compliment matchmaking. Something like Battlefield 3 where players can choose the game type, map, etc… and pick from a list of open custom games. Then that would open doors to old games like Race… Tower of Power… Zombies, and people would be able to try out new forge maps (many of which are actually pretty good).
I agree.
It could be an option in the custom game menu before you start where the lobby leader can select “public” or keep it “Private” like it is now.
To be more specific:
Lobby leader has the option to select “Public” or keep it “Private.” Private being like it is now where the option to make the lobby invitation only, open or friends only. When set to public, the lobby leader has to also set the parameters such as player count, BTB, etc.
For people to join a public custom game, it could be set up so the players who are searching can have a filter similar to the file share (has to be working though) where they can choose parameters such as BTB, TS etc. and player count. (mentioned above)
Now the player searching will be dropped into various rooms or to make it better, the player is able to see a list of available lobbies (like a server browser) and it could be list similar like the file share list is so it’s easy for Halo players to understand right off the bat.
For a little added bonus, there could also be a description box the author of the map can use to write out things like “please message me with feedback so I can make adjustments” etc. etc.
People have been asking for this for years now. I have a feeling it’s not as easy to implement as it sounds, but it would be awesome none the less.
If they did, I’m sure they would leave out a location search option.
Matchmaking options aren’t half as good as previous Halo titles, I wouldn’t hold your breath for this.
Hmm… I support this. People have been asking for Custom Game matchmaking since Halo 2. They have to introduce it one of these days…
That would be stinking amazing…but I don’t think it would happen…and now looking through previous players its harder than ever to find a custom games group because of JIP. You don’t know who is customs and who’s matchmaking. Oh well…
The current way of having public custom games is just to go to your recent players and invite them all. This is a hassle to people like me that like to host custom games and don’t always have double-digit friends online. I support the idea of custom games in matchmaking but I don’t see it happening in Halo 4.
Sadly
I swear there’s a button in the roster which is SO bloody deceiving. “Find community games” I got soooooo freaking excited… until i clicked A. Suddenly it showed all my friends who were playing Halo 4 at the time. -Yoinks!-. Feature for Halo 5 please? We’ve wanted this since Halo 3, what’s stopping you?
Sounds like you guys haven’t discovered www.halocustoms.com !
This site allows you to schedule custom game sessions into their calendar for all members to see. http://halocustoms.com/events/
I joined about a month ago and have only good things to say. Their maps section is actually active (community creations fail…). I believe it is affiliated with The Halo Forge Epidemic, but I’m not totally sure.
