So I haven’t played halo 5 in about a year or so and I was never amazing so pros calm down. But I ALWAYS went positive in arena games for the most part and was a diamond so nothing crazy but I wasn’t horrible. Coming back about 33 games into arena I notice my pistol shots seem like they don’t always register. And if they do it’s like they work until a shield pops and that last shot is just not hitting somehow? Also seems like the BR isn’t as deadly as it use to be. Did I miss any crazy patches or is anyone else having this issue? I know I’m not amazing but for God sakes the pistol shots are driving me bonkers
First of all you have missed a big update, that changed a lot of weapons. SMG and Carbine are now useless for the most part and not reliable. DMR has a slower TTK and is also not really a weapon to pick up. Railgun has a longer loading time and the BR has a much higher recoil. There are more changes, but maybe you should search for the news, where everything is explained, because there are a lot (would have send you a link, but the site for the news always has an error).
And for the shots not registering, I think this is more a problem of lag. My group and I are from Germany and only around 30% of our games have a connection, that is ok. In most cases we are shot behind walls, shots are not registering or register with a delay, yesterday a guy killed me with a melee although I stood behind him and could see is frigging back, nades are thrown with a delay and thats not all… It’s so frustrating especially if you feel the difference between two games where in the first game everything was awesome and then in the next game the lobby changes and so does the connection… With this it’s impossible for us to get higher in our rank. We are loosing a lot of games because of connection and in many cases I lose so frigging many points… but that’s another story. The point is, that this may be some kind of lag.
Yeah had a lot to do with latency and server connection I play from Australia so it’s absolutely brutal I hit a guy yesterday with 9 magnum shots and didn’t pop his shields sometimes the servers are trash and people eat your bullets I feel your pain but have no solution for you
There was a weapon tuning update that makes the BR almost unplayable except for close range to semi mid. Mostly a support weapon.
now I can prove this but what I’ve been hearing is when the shield pops it un registeres auto aim so it has to re register for a second. I don’t think that’s true but it’s something to be mindful of.
Since the nerfing of every weapon I stopped using smart link on the pistol. Works better
Thanks for the replies! I was wondering because when I came back and picked up the DMR or even BR they seem almost not worth it anymore since everyone just dominates with a pistol. It feels like if I even move my reticle it’s a bad idea lol
The game is as garbage as the makers. I on the contrary to you play very competitively and always in the mid Onyx for most seasons that I decide to play. I have the best internet you can get out there because I love to compete online. However, halo has disappointed time after time with such low quality of service and continued preformance. I shot at people today and they register tomorrow. The game is a complete and utter -Yoink- when it comes to online experience. The games that do run well not make me angry or happy but satisfied it was finally a game to enjoy regardless of the outcomne. I see to be getting more annoyed than joy when playing halo. Not because everyone is basically semi pros (on the contrary; I love that everyone is good now) but because I can’t have one single game without teleportations or such a basic fundamental thing as to shots getting registered on all my encontrers. I love the game multiplayer but I hate it at the same time. This game as made me change from Xbox to playstation. What a FAILURE of a game and system overall. So unsatisfied. If I had one minute to interact with the makers I would just “Spit” laugh, and walk away. There is nothing worth saying when you just kill all my free time enjoyment and transform it into a nightmare of hope. Hope I can finally get one single game where I can actually enjoy the competition at it’s fullest.

Everyone’s nailing it on the head. I just came back today and started playing. It’s definitley the servers. When I get a good server my shots are spot on, I’m getting perfect kills, everything is going my way. The next game when it’s a bad server it’s the polar opposite. Shots not registering, grenades not hitting, seemingly dying instantly. It feels exactly like a bad host. I just assume I’m matching players over seas or something.
Totally agree with everyones comments. My shots don’t registe either. I get the jump on players only for them to turn around and kill me in what feels like two shots. My recticle is centered on people yet it doesn’t turn red and when I shoot the shots don’t hit. I just don’t know where to aim anymore. This is sad afeter being a player of halo for 10+ yrs now. It’s getting very frustrating. Starting to lose my love for the game. The game play is so inconsistent in its feel. On rare occasions it will feel just right, then on the next game it feels like I can’t move or like I’m running in quick sand.
Try a technique used in real shooting known as a “flash sight picture”. Basically the idea is that you try to remember where exactly your crosshair was when you took the last shot. I bring this up because I’ve been having similiar problems lately, and it has alot to do with the fact that my inner crosshair is just off of their head, like in the shoulder area, and because of that I don’t get the headshot. I could be wrong obviously, but to me it sounds like an issue with your shot that needs practice. Especially having just came back.
Well, about the BR. They said in the recent community update that they’re going to move the BR to REQ 2 in Warzone and Extended Magnum to REQ 3. Hopefully that should say how underpowered the BR has now become. 
Ya I was playing the other day for quite a few hours and my friends and I all agree that shot registration is definitely a problem some matches. It really seemed to be a problem for me especially. Cost me many ranks in my placement matches (though I’m at the point almost of not caring about my rank anymore, for many reasons but I digress here)
As far as weapons go, there has been some updates. Most will agree that the BR isn’t great anymore and not really worth picking up unless you need a second wespon… but the SMG is beyond useless now. Barely snyone uses it now andai mean barely!!! AR isn’t bad now, not as OP as before but more of a finishing weapon as crazy as that kind of sounds. Decent in team Slayer with team focus fire especially. Most agree that the Carbine and DMR aren’t too bad. Railgun doesn’t shot as fast, but has longer hold time but still very good, just takes some getting used too.those were the bigger changes if I recall.
If I were to record a clip every time a fifth shot does not register and I automatically reload because I’m sure I got the kill I’d use up all my hard drive in a couple of days. Game’s not worth playing anymore with such inconsistency. And being that it is such an old game and the population has decreased dramatically I am not expecting it to change.
Eh, I think if you have shot registration problems You might be from outside the us (I wouldn’t know how it is because I’m from the US) OR, you just have bad internet plain and simple. I’d say that maybe 1-3% of the time I’ve had shot registration probs, and maybe in the last 4 months of playing i’ve maybe seen a guy lag like what 3 times? For like a second or two.
Idk, I’m not seeing the plethora of problems you guys are and I wouldn’t say we have the best Internet in Alaska lol.
I get a fair amount of blank shots and it’s not the internet because my connection is solid. The blank shots also aren’t an online-only thing, they happens at LANs as well.

I’ve been playing halo for a long time, and i am not the best, but not terrible either. I’ve played all halos throughout the years and been loyal to the following, but i have to be really honest, when i unload a shot gun three times into an opponent and they do not die and he hits me with 2 pistol shots and i go down, it is a little somewhat frustrating to say the very least. I mean seriously i have a fiber connection, so it is not my network, the very best wifi, am a computer scientist so know my stuff, electrical engineer as well so really know hardware, but these so called dedicated servers 343 are using are terrible. I honestly think they don’t care anymore and i am going to do my very best to not only move away from the franchise but dissuade other folks as well. I mean it’s just so frustrating, so many hours invested and no one gives a darn. I want to use really bad language here, but know how passive aggressive folks are about that and it just irritates me even more.
I’ve run ping tests, netstat’s, and even used some unsavory “internet” tools to do some research and realize that the dedicated servers are really not up to the job. The coders at 343 should institute some serious compensation algorithms for poor network performance. Something along these lines:
1.) I am the dedicated server and accept your client connection.
2.) If the ping exceeds ‘x’ ms then increase my area for the kill box or employ a damage multiplier that is commensurate to the best ping response.
and hey feel free to shoot this idea down, but do us all a favor and come back with a potential solution instead of just judging. Do you want to solve the problem, or just market another master series ‘de-bockle’, and furthermore i am not sending you stats, it’s even more waste of my time. You accept connections from ip address, monitor them for degradation and quality of service.
Solve it guys or get out of making games. Evolve or die my friends

All of the changes that were made to the weapons in addition to the crippled servers are definitely an issue.
I’ve noticed shots not registering a lot since I came back this season. I’m only mid-diamond, but I can find a headshot most times. There are times when I’ve seen the enemy “jitter” while we’re exchanging fire, which causes shots of mine to miss the mark when they should’ve landed. I get the feeling that 343 has either massively reduced server capacity or reduced the capability of the servers they DO have in some way since late 2017 when I last played. I constantly see streamers, YouTubers, and friends I play with rage over their shots simply not landing because the “dedicated server” is trash that game.
In the game you happen to have a “good” server, which is under 30% of games, the gameplay is incredible. Shots land for both sides and it feels crisp and clean like it should. The problem is the other 70% of games feel like you’re playing on a server on the friggin’ moon and the delay and shot recognition is horrendous. Something needs to be done quick or the already diminished H5 population is going to run away even faster.
