Shot Gun

Any ideas for new Shot Guns

I think we should get a covenant shotgun. I always thought a needle shotgun that had needles poking out of it.

(A possible covie shotty I thought of was also maybe as a variant of the needle one. Instead of needles it could fire a blast wave like Tartarus’ gavel)

I also like the current UNSC shotgun design but it should be a little more tubular. And it should be increased to 8 shells instead of 6.

promethean shotty should definitely stay somewhere around how it is in halo 5.

I tend to be against the idea of giving the Covenant a dedicated shotgun, they already have one, its called a sword and hammer, and I’m not a big fan of the Mauler as is.

That being said, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Plasma Cannon replaced with something that fires like a CE shade cannon without the spread. That way the Covenant get a sort of shotgun while also further diversifying the heavy weapon lineup.

As for the Scattershot I would make it battery powered, lower the base damage, up the rate of fire, and give each “pellet” a some splash damage. Effectively it would be an explosive auto shotty that can be dangerous to use at point blank range due to the splash, while also giving it some utility against vehicles akin to the Concussion rifle.

Bonus Round: The Mauler would actually be changed to a mini flamethrower that can switch to a “lob” firing mode that can be used like a flashbang.

They could make a Concussion style ‘shotgun’ (for the Elites?) with a relatively high fire-rate where after every shot it shoots multiple little concussive plasma looking projectiles in a medium spread that have good knock-back. Working as a good disruption weapon mainly, separating an army from each other while maybe killing a couple if firing like a madman then after having reset the situation the battle is more manageable.

They could make a Gravity shotgun (for the Brutes?) which lacks damage when flicking the trigger but takes advantage of Halo physics as the gravity-burst has great knockback when close to an opponent that can often push them far enough with enough force to collide and die. This makes it highly situational in open spaces though but great in buildings and close corridors. However, it would also have a secondary firing mode that can be charged by holding on to the trigger and when unleashed will create a powerful wave of gravity akin to the ‘Tartarus Gavel’ but a drastically nerfed down version of it. Of course, the weapon would run on energy and would have a very slow fire-rate, being one of the slowest shotguns in this aspect.

Another could be the Blam shotgun. Using Blamite crystals that the Needler and Needle-Rifle utilize, it would have a very slow fire-rate but fire a huge flurry of needles which will make the opponent explode if enough land which more than likely will happen if within reasonable range. The needles themselves would do very low damage and would have travel time, which would be very fast but still unlike the UNSC shotgun which is effective immediately. A few extra slow moving needles would end up coming out too but would usually do nothing to help in defeating your primary target as they would usually miss and go past the opponent.

IF the humans got another shotgun I’d totally have fun with a rapid-fire one which has one of those large round ‘clips’ at the bottom like the SAW.

Now, because people are commenting on existing shotguns such as the Scattershot I have this to say about it;
I believe the Scattershot should more akin to Halo 4 with that fast fire rate and lowish damage but have noticeably decent bolt tracking when hitting a surface. I’d likely make almost every Promethean weapon use a battery system that generally holds less than Covenant battery weapons but can be re-stocked by enemy kills/ashes.
If I were to be a little less conservative with my changes though I’d do the following;
Able to be rapid fired, releasing with each shot a very wide scatter of bolts, one of which will target one enemy unless that enemy has already been selected by another bolt. If a bolt hits a wall it will automatically target a nearby enemy regardless of whether they’re being targeted by other bolts or not. Again, the tracking is noticeably better than it is in H5 but not to the point of being overpowered.

Ditch the re-targeting after bouncing off a wall mechanic for a secondary firing mode which is activated when holding on to the trigger long enough to supercharge the bolts which will increase their number by three times and when dispersed will make them rapidly ricrocket off walls at incredible speeds.

I don’t know about anyone else , but I think we have enough high damage , low skill , AoE weapons. I am not saying shotguns take no skill , (it’s actually one of my preferred weapons) , but comparing it to say a sniper or DMR or BR , it is a relatively low skill weapon. I don’t think we need more of these , and I think we need more AoE weapons even less.

Only thing I have to say about shotguns is the return of the old art style. I know the newer shot gun is supposed to look futuristic and new, but the OG shotty has a distinct cool militaristic look about it that makes it feel real, kind of like the Halo 2-3 BR. It may just be me, and what some say nostalgia, but I find the old looks quite charming.

Although, instead of a covenant shot gun, maybe like a weapon that does damage over time, kind of like the focus rifle, but for short ranges would be pretty cool. Maybe it could be a rebirth of the focus rifle, where when zoomed in it does focus damage, but when at the hip it does proximity damage like a close range weapon should do.

Honestly, I don’t think we need any type of new shotgun or anything. I don’t think every race needs to have the same kind of weapons either. Actually, I prefer they don’t. It helps make them feel unique.

To me that’s part of the Prometheans problem in Halo. There weapons all feel like some kind of high-tech UNSC weapon which to me is lame. Boltshot - pistol, suppressor - AR, scattershot - shotgun and so on. They have absolutely nothing that’s unique and stands out say for maybe the splinter grenade. Where as the Covenant definitely does. The Banished weapons are like the covenants for obvious reasons so they don’t count.

Anyways, I think Halo needs to have more unique weapons for each race and less weapons in general, so definitely no new shotgun types in my opinion.

Theres already a shotgun in the game and I hope that they wont add any new variants. I’d rather have less weapons with unique features, than loads of weapons that all have the same function.

The same goes for vehicles (because I’ve seen similiar requests in the H5 subforum in the past). Theres no point in adding things like “Covenant Tanks” / or “Covenant Warthogs” when they dont serve a unique role. We already have a unique, powerful covenant ground vehicle called the Wraith. Thats just my few on this topic.

I agree with the above. We don’t need anything new in the shotgun department.

I really liked the sound of the Halo 4 shotgun. However when it comes to functionality, is should be closer to Reach’s.

UNSC shotgun:
Works just like in CE (but it’s semi-authomatic now), looks and sounds like in 2A MP.
Forerunner scattershot:
Bouncing projectiles as always, but runs out of battery like the forerunner weapons back in H2 and 3. It overheats if fired too fast (6 shots, to be precise). Also I always felt it kinda looked and sounded off.
Brute mauler:
Like H3, but this time it fires needlers (they won’t supercombine since it’s close range) and is authomathic. I think it could also use a visual overhaul, I loved it on Halo Online.
