You’re fighting overwhelming waves of covenant. 4 hunters are about to be sent in. Suddenly 4 mantises get dropped in.
“HERE USE DESE GIANT ROBOTS!”
Okay. Thanks for the Mantis infinity… but shouldn’t you have used those Pelicans to ex-
Palmer: “BUT DON’T BORE ME WITH FAX!”
Hold on a minute Palmer. Wouldn’t be easier to just send in one Pelican to quickly grab us and get us out of there before it’s impossible to send in air support? You make us stay in there until you all can get a MAC blast(i think) on that covenant carrier?
And the Covenant seem really stupid on this too. Why send wave after wave of your troops to be wiped out by our giant robots? Why waste perfectly good soldiers against a nigh invincible team of Spartans that for some reason won’t die?
Send in one pelican when you had the chance to extract us instead of a Mantis. Mission would have been over right there.
If you saw what was happening last mission before that, they had discovered something with one of the towers. I’m guessing when they saw the Covenant Cruiser, they thought it was a bad idea to keep them there.
Most of the Spartan Ops chapters don’t make sense, lol.
And is Spartan Ops gameplay considered canon? Does Crimson actually fight that many enemies on the same maps? Valhalla is located on The Ark, so does this mean that Crimson went to The Ark for their mission?
We seriously arguing about this? Valhalla is on the Ark. Ragnarok is on Requiem. I’m pretty sure the Forerunners ran out of terrain blueprints and reused them sometimes.

i thought valhalla was on a completely separate ring? O.o but i guess the forerunners would use the same designs if they had the same purpose
One explanation you seem to forget is that you were being kept there on purpose.
Jul’s forces were throwing a veritable armada at anywhere from 1 to 4 dudes in a canyon. They even threw a cruiser at these four dudes. Obviously since their own dudes were gone and you guys had already done what they needed you to do, they were here to murder you.
Now consider the morale drop when the Covenant realize that fighting four humans sitting pretty in a canyon lost them hundreds of soldiers in open combat. Do you really think the higher-ups of a military operation, seeing this as a realistic option, -WOULDN’T- use it as a chance to test out some of their more effective S-IV units, as well as give a gigantic middle finger to the enemy?

You make excellent points here so I will address them by paragraph.
I completely understand that they were trying to kill Crimson. What I don’t understand is that after the mantises were put in they didn’t even try to compensate. They just kept in sending hunters with absolutely no armor(which doesn’t help since there isn’t any enemy variety). Elites with Fuel Rod Guns weren’t doing anything. That they could have done was hover the cruiser over the Valley and glass them. Once Crimson had grabbed the information the Covenant was after it was lost but at least the humans wouldn’t have gotten it.
This part of your post confuses me. Wasn’t palmer trying to get Crimson out of Valhalla with the information? It doesn’t really matter if they were trying to lower the Covenant’s morale it would really be up to Crimson if they wanted to get out of there but since you as the player don’t have the ability to make that choice 343 just gives you a Mantis and lets you do all the work.
It would have gone over better if they had told us we needed to hold the tower so halsey could work on the translating. but hey, we get giant robots, covies get exploded, everyone is happy.
Also, I noticed this is the only episode where we fight zero prometheans.
> Also, I noticed this is the only episode where we fight zero prometheans.
This ALSO confuses me. Why didn’t the Didact order the Prometheans to help the covenant? We were wrecking face and destroying them. We’re still on their Turf and in this episode they still had control of the slipspace network. They could have easily overwhelmed Crimson.
But we’re not here to talk about Prometheans this is a Covie discussion I guess.

I don’t see why they didn’t just send the cruiser to glass them initially. Problem solved.

The Covenant consider that information sacred, and destroying it would be heresy. Religion never made it easy to be logical. As for their offensive strategy for killing off robo-spartans? Well, they’ve done impractical things in the past. Like giving a soldier a sword in a gunfight.
Palmer might have. But Infinity isn’t run by Palmer. Oni’s been pulling the UNSC’s strings and the commands given to its soldiers since the beginning, and they’ve been known to be willing to make sacrifice plays like this to see if the new product is working.
Remember, while the UNSC seems to have the interests of humanity as a whole in mind, its boss isn’t so idealistic and benevolent.
