I know it’s reddit, and I know it’s not entirely representative, but from what I’m seeing there is a sizeable portion of this community that shouts down any positivity about post-Bungie era Halo.

I even put in my Reddit post that 343 should have ironed out or otherwise covered up the bugs in the demo, which I 100% believe they should have done. But to be spoken to like dirt because of my opinion has really, for lack of a more nuanced phrase, pissed me the -Yoink- off.

I know, this community disappoints me as well, and I am one of the Bungie Era Halo fans. What was shown so far excites me, I could care less if the graphics aren’t so photo-realistic that I could reach out and pinch a Grunts cheeks. The game is being developed to function on all versions of the Xbox One, Series X, Pc’s ect, there are going to be some graphical downgrades that have to be made to accomidate the multiple versions of the game, still however, given they would have had nearly a year’s worth of development from the demo to release gives me confidence the graphics will improve, that been the one strong suit 343 has always been good at.
We do not live in 2007 anymore, games have evolved to a point that, the simple and basic gameplay of Halo’s past just won’t survive in todays market. What I saw though was definately the best compromise we could have hoped for, and again we have yet to see multiplayer and they already specified that the equipment in the campaign will work differently from how they work in the campaign means their is a possibility other abilities will work differently as well. Heck what if multiplayer doesn’t even have sprint or clamber, I know its unlikely but its not impossible, if 343 is trying to keep the modern stuff in the campaign and bring the multiplayer back to classic. Lets give 343 more time to reveal more of the game before final judgements are made. I am already sold on the campaign but the multiplayer is where I will be deciding if this is what I will be playing for the next 10 years or not.
I get people are frustrated, but we are never going to get a complete reconversion back into Halo 3, I am certain if 343 even tried, Microsoft, and every investor, they have would be screaming at them to not do that. We at this point for better or for worse are going to have to accept sprint, clamber and other abilities as they are just so mainstream now. We need to remember that not even in the classic games, were all the mechanics completely unique, Halo CE did not invent the idea of Energy Shields, nor Halo 2, reviving Health. Nor did Halo 2 or 3 invent duel weilding, and what was Halo 3’s Forge, but a simplified version of a pc map editor for consoles. These were not entirely new ideas, so I fail to see how Halo utilizings these trends makes it any worse than the games that copied halos sandbox mechanics or forge or theater modes. Games share from eachother, that is just the way it is, and the gaming industry today is much more expansive than it was back then, those simplified mechanics just would not be enough in todays age without something extra added to it to spice it up.
