Shock coils removed from Argyle? What else will pro wannabes ruin?

"Pro"players having the biggest skill issues known to man, but for some reasons 343 keeps bending the knee for those clowns

I just would like to counter this coils are “noob”… You know there is more to skill than just ability with a BR or precision weapons. Being able to use a coil effectively is a skill… Just like being able to counter them is a skill. Just like knowing what weapon works best in what areas or which ones to use depending on what area or tactics being used. HCS is getting kinda boring really… Essentially just BRs… When people wonder why it’s tough to find games in ranked it’s because it’s kinda stale. Most play for fun, they want to be able to use different weapons. 343 truly needs an HCS playlist for those who want the super competitive BR fest… And then have a regular ranked that has all and a good variety of weapons on the map. Yes Halo is a competitive shooter but that doesn’t mean there should be no fun as well… There is a reason why games like fiesta is so popular, it’s because it’s fun to play.

I know it’s frustrating to see the coils removed but it’s not without reason.

They’re sort of unpredictable.

Yeah, thats what makes them fun. But we cant have fun in Halo apparently

Well, it’s not fun for everyone and that’s my point. It’s only for ranked so it shouldn’t be an issue.

Problem is, it’s as powerful as a rocket. So when you have four coils plus four rockets, you basically have eight rockets on the map, all of which respawn.

…And that just sucks.

Hi, former professional in another game here, what professional players want is consistency and predictability. Inconsistent gameplay can make the game pretty unfair and unfun. Y’know how Chess is probably the most widely played competitive game in the world?

It has set rules and pieces that can all make predictable moves. But that does not make it easy. Using those pieces and controlling the board in a strategic manner is the entire point.

Pretty much every competitive game is the same.

Any element of randomness in an evenly matched set of teams going head to head, makes the playing field unfair. Imagine for a moment that randomly, a knight in chess could move one space more than usual, and it was decided by a coinflip every turn.

At some point, someone gains an advantage that was unearned and unfair to the other player, if only because of chance.

Fusion coils, as powerful as rockets, unannounced and much more flexible in their use than rockets, and more quickly spawning, are pretty much the same principle.

It isn’t fun or good.

What game? Also, I bet Halo and whatever you played are much different. (no offenese)

And you can catch them and throw them back, which is awesome.

Different but more similar than you’d expect. Star Wars: Squadron. I was Firaxa-1 Dodger, leader and founder of Firaxa Squadron. We made it to the top 40 best pilots in the United States.

We were very good. Not the best but very good.

Even if the games are different? What every pro circuit wants is… About the same.

1: Tight sandbox.
2: Good balance.
3: Predictability.
4: Consistency.
5: A fair chance for both teams to win.
6: A well designed playspace.
7: Motivation to play.

And that’s about it. You can try to tell me what Halo needs all you want but I have friends in the pro circuit here too - and as someone a fair bit below them, I’m mostly relaying their thoughts.

Which, frankly, line up with the above.

Glad I uninstalled last week. This would make me lose my mind as I slowly noticed while playing matchmaking.

The coils are very predictable- you pick one up you get a kill. Like a charm.

If they made a separate playlist for HCS the population would be so low it would get rotated.

then let me ask you this since you have friends in the pro circuit and maybe you can ask then if there are also pro halo players.

why are there not asking 343 for there own playlist like you see in each cod game that the E-sport players have there own playlist with there rule’s to play on.

why most there mess with the basic multiplayer and destroy it for all the normal players?

and here is also a question i wane ask you.
do you not think also that what there are doing now by destroying the mutliplayer for all the normal players not going to hurt there reputation also as a pro halo player also by doing things like this.

I agree, they should have left them on the map. Same for the Pit as well.

Coils are fun, but pretty cheesy. You can throw them a half mile and their damage radius is almost as big. I support the removal in ranked.

I know. It’s freaking dumb. Why do they keep removing fun stuff from the game? At this point, why doesn’t 343i just make their own Siege or Counter-Strike clone if they’re REALLY frothing at the mouth for some kind of ultra-sweaty hardcore tactical shooter. Halo is the exact opposite of that. It’s a fun game you boot up and have fun in, that’s what is has been and always will be. Stop trying to reinvent the god dang wheel 343i. You have a good foundation, so USE IT. Don’t try to be one of those esports games and ruin the good thing you have going like Overwatch did, because it won’t pan out in the long run.

Frankly it’s because the coils are just a free kill.
Do you play ranked?

Who the hell cares? They’re fun, why can’t games have dumb bullcrap in them anymore and just be fun? Why should shooters and fighting games be sanded down to the smoothest edges possible so no “pro” player can hurt themself on a “broken” mechanic and go on a tantrum? Seriously, if you don’t like “free kill” weapons, Halo simply isn’t for you. We gonna ignore the one-hit kill melee weapons? The Rocket Launcher? The Scorpion Tank? Grenade spam? Halo isn’t even close to a competitive game like Siege or CSGO so STOP TRYING TO MAKE IT THAT FOR GOD’S SAKE!

You would think that the “pro” players would be able to utilise the game mechanics as is and wouldn’t need to have a whole playlist and ruleset dedicated to “competitive” so their feelings don’t get hurt by the bad, bad fusion coils. At this point why not take out all the guns but the BR and sniper rifle and call it a day? It’ll definitely make the pro community ecstatic.

No matter what Halo does, it will not be anywhere near CSGO in terms of comp. CSGO is a comp game through and through. Halo is a party game.

I don’t think these changes reflect any sort of desire to turn Halo into a hardcore-type game.

hoo boy, let’s get started here

  1. Tight sandbox: Halo has always had a tight sandbox, with all weapons and abilities playing off each other, and encouraging combos between guns, abilities, grenades, and now fusion coils for success, a logical improvement off of the classic Quake and Unreal Tournament arena games that inspired Halo

  2. Good balance: Although in a vacuum certain weapons may seem “overpowered”, the sandbox acts as a natural way to balance everything out. It’s a delicate balance, with almost all weapons fulfilling a role. There is an easy counter for almost any situation and weapon you can think of, and this is greatly improved in Infinite with the new overhauled abilities system from H3 and Reach

  3. Predictability: Halo, like Chess, is a simple to learn but hard to master game. You can understand the concept, but you can’t predict the exact outcome of every match and situation. That’s what makes it fun. However, by smartly playing your cards you can influence a situation and eventually rise past your opponent and emerge victorious, which is where the skill comes in

  4. Consistency: Like I said in predictability, you can understand the rules of Halo but you cannot predict every single situation and match outcome, and that’s what makes it fun, keyword being fun

  5. A fair chance for both teams to win: As it stands in Infinite, as long as both teams have an understanding of game mechanics, there is no reason why there isn’t a “fair chance” for both teams to win a match.

  6. A well designed playspace: Halo’s maps are designed first and foremost as playgrounds, where players’ imaginations can run wild with the combat possibilities laid out in front of them. No player has a dedicated “role”, like Battlefield or R6 Siege where each player has a predetermined role and the outcome of the game relies solely on how the player played that role. The amount of weapons and ways to interact with the environment even further emphasize this freedom, so why remove that? The goal of “competitive” Halo, so it seems, is to remove any mechanic that could seem to “risque” and streamline everyone to one playstyle and one playstyle only. Removing fusion coils, weapon spawns, and even altering spawn points of capture points and flags, all go to show that the focus is on map “balance”, not how actually fun it is to play on a Friday Night with some friends

  7. Motivation to play: this is where admittatly Infinite falls the shortest, but in reality fun gameplay is all the motivation I need to keep playing a game.

All in all what I mean by this Great Wall of Text is that Halo already has the components of a “competitive” experience as is, no further alterations need to be made to an already great gameplay experience to make it more “streamer friendly”. Stop trying to get 343i to sand down and streamline their games for the 1% of players.

You’re talking like they removed the coils completely. We still get to play with the full sandbox in social and btb.
