I wonder when will 343 add laser cannons on there capital ships that are based on the spartan laser. while I couldnt see this on smaller ships, ships like the Autumn class cruisers or The various carriers could have them. I dont want them to replace the MACS but just variation on large ship weaponry
If they did, I’d assume it would be soon. Historically, UNSC weapons have mostly been projectile based…primarily to give players (us!) something they can recognize and understand. But now that the series continues to evolve (especially with the introduction of the Infiniti, which uses some Forerunner tech), I think it’s within the realm of reason that lasers or energy based weapons start to appear on ships.
Probably with halo 6 actually. Cortana now has control of UNSC Eternity, 343 might want to differentiate it from infinity with laser weaponry.

If you consider MAC cannons as a similar technology, it is already there. in addition to this, the D79-TC pelican seen in Halo 4 features a front mounted spartan Laser.
I’m feeling deja vu, didn’t we already have a thread like this?
the UNSC already has Laser weapons mounted on the Winter-Class Prowler, as for weapon alongside, say Anti-Ship Roles like Missiles, and MACs, I doubt we will see them anytime soon. And I can only think of several reasons, Money, Maintenance, Materials, Heat and Power, as for Point Defense Guns, at some point they will either replace or be equipped along side the normal PDGs. it would be, at least in my opinion, foolish not have wide speak laser defense guns on your ship, if you are capable of doing so. however I’m of the opinion the ships should have both, Physical Point Defense Gun, and laser point defense guns, which would mean more power and resources, and money to build, upkeep, even upgrade and power to keep them active.
power shouldn’t be a problem, I’d be more worried about everything else that isn’t power.
Didn’t infinity use lasers to break a hole in mantles approach in halo 4?

no, it used it’s MAC Guns
It would be cool to see on a prototype ship or something along those lines.
Current laser units in the unsc. Infinitry spartan laser, sparrowhawk,Hannibal tank, pelican gunship, laser mantis, laser drone, gremlin, condor gunship and unsc prowlers of various types with pulse lasers and emp cannon and xray laser warheads on some nuclear missiles. So the unsc is expanding. Would be nice if they brought all these units into onew game.
They’ve had laser weapons (or at least laser style ones) on Prowlers way far back. The Winter-class is just a new version of something previously existing.
I’m willing to bet that UNSC ships will probably have plasma/forerunner hybrid weapons soon as they have a large cashe of forerunner tech, and access to covenant technologies
The UNSC has been using lasers in the point defence role for sometime now. Not on the same scale as the Covenant, mostly due to cost, energy output and effective range or guidence probably. I would guess that is why they are mostly seen in prowlers. In post war ship combat we may see better systems come online in role of defence, however I think that offensively lasers can be incorporated into missiles like the Howler, Rapier and new Archer to cut a hole through sheilding, allowing the missile to hit the actual target.
Ground, single craft and man carried weapons we have had for sometime now. The Sparrowhawk had provisions to carry M9C lasers for anti armour roles since the start of the war. The gunship pelican near the end of the war and halo 4. It would be safe to assume fighters could have carried a similar system. We have the Hannibal scorpion and specialized Mantis and possible Warthog variants so I think it’s becoming more wide spread it will just be a while, with this whole AI revolt thing.
They use Nukes with Xray laser warheads and Casaba howitzer (plasma spear) warhead so yeah might be possible to add them normal missiles

Yep, It was actually me that asked this.
