Ship AI on the Infinity?

Given the size of the Infinity and all the systems it must have, surely it must have it’s own smart AI onboard, but I’ve found no mention of it? Only Cortana has been seen among the trailer videos on board… I’m sure the Infinity AI would merit itself as a significant character to the plot.

BB

This is a very good point, maybe they’ll come up with some reason as to why theres no AI, maybe it some how got destroyed in the crash?

I would suspect that it would be in Infinity/matchmaking. I think that an human AI in charge of the largest UNSC ship ever made would have some problems though, so maybe its a collection of AIs rather then a single one.

We learn from The Thursday War that a “dumb” A.I. called Aine was installed while the Infinity was undergoing refit, but Black Blox a.k.a. BB was also on board.

But of course the Kilo-Five Trilogy takes place 4-5 years before Halo 4, and a proper A.I. may have been installed. Also BB, like Cortana, was also dealing with impending Rampancy.

I haven’t read the book, but thanks for the info. If Black Box was close to rampancy it makes sense he was removed prior to the events of Halo 4. Perhaps it wasn’t found necessary to facilitate a smart AI afterwards. If only ‘Aine’ was running the ship at the time this would explain how the Forerunners easily overloaded the Infinity and brought it down.

It’s 2556 and humanity has stupid ai ?!

> It’s 2556 and humanity has stupid ai ?!

Its a misnomer, dumb AI’s aren’t actually dumb, they’re just considered inferior to smart AI’s since they’re made for specific tasks and cannot really operate outside those tasks.

Aine isn’t a dumb A.I. She just had a dumb A.I there to control the targeting systems because she wasn’t normally a combat A.I . But she was only temporary, and she definitely should’ve been switched out by now. Maybe B.B, but he’s kind of a pretentious -Yoink-.

I think it would be interesting if the Infinity uses an AI that is derivative of an ancilla discovered in Trevelyan. It would be the logical next step for AIs after all…

It’s a big thing to overlook not having a AI aboard the ship. I guess we will meet it in Halo 4.

> It’s 2556 and humanity has stupid ai ?!

“dumb” AI’s are experts of insane quality within their fields. However outside of their field, they are pretty much useless. (Superintendant from ODST for example, would be most likely baffled and worthless trying to operate the weapon systems and controlling a warship.)

In reply to your Spoiler part.

This is not true the first one is starts weeks after the end of Halo 3 and the Thursday war is a direct sequel to that taking place as soon as Glasslands finnished.[/

We already know of one (Jeff Steizer), so no doubt there are others, since he is only in charge of War Games.

Um. you missed the part “4-5 years BEFORE halo 4

Halo 4, IIRC is set… 2559? or 2557? I forget.

Infinity’s AI must not figure into John and Cortana’s adventure. I’m sure the ship probably has one, but may not appear in the story as either a protagonist or antagonist so they’re just not bothering to mention it in the marketing.

Halo 4 begins exactly on July 20th, 2557.

Source: Halopedia and around the time they showed off the first Campaign gameplay, they stated the time.

I doubt BB will be the smart AI in charge of Infinity because he is assigned to Osman/Parangosky to assist with running ONI (being sent from that to piloting a ship, even Infinity, would be pretty harsh). I also very much doubt that “the pride of the UNSC fleet” would be put into commission without a more capable smart AI than Aine. Then again, Osman and BB could happen to have been on Infinity when it was kidnapped, it would make for some pretty good character conflicts down the road between Halsey, Osman, Chief, Cortana and BB.

The ancilla-derived AI theory is pretty interesting, would even help explain why Infinity was targeted for Requiem if some of its core programming was still loyal to forerunners.

OOOps!! I really should read slower - i should have seen this.

What do you mean by IIRC?

> would even help explain why Infinity was targeted for Requiem if some of its core programming was still loyal to forerunners.

Actually it wouldn’t, Requiem is considered off limits to everyone, Forerunners included.

> What do you mean by IIRC?

IIRC just means “If I recall correctly”.
