Shields, Armor, And Health In One System.

(TL:DR included.)

I have a crazy idea guys, but before you judge a thread by it’s title, this idea isn’t trying to slow down kill times.

So if any of you have ever read the Halo books and know the general Halo lore, you know the outside of Halo games Spartan can take some serious punishment. As said in Halo: The Fall of Reach, John could take an anti-tank missle from a SkyHawk fighter (deflecting it, yes, but still getting hit with it.) in Mark FIVE and only be brought to yellow health. Were two versions of MJOLNIR up now, imagine what punishment Spartans should be able to take in that.

So my idea is this, in one health system a player has to lose all their shields, armor, and health to die. You think this would slow down kill times? Not quite.

To bring the killtimes in line with the original trilogy, (let’s say Halo 2 speed), there would be special ammo rounds for each level of health. EMP-Rounds for shields, shredder rounds for armor, and penetrating rounds for health.

If the player would use these ammo types on what they were meant for, right as the their enemy’s health level hit the according stage, the killing process would go much quicker. If they didn’t, say they used shield rounds for all three health parts, it would take double the amount of time it took in Reach to kill someone.

There would be no special magazines or anything, to not overly complicate it you just press left on the arrow pad and your Spartan would slap their magazine and it’d switch to another ammo type.

Thoughts on this?

TL:DR: Health system has shields, armor, and health. To kill quick switch to appropiate ammo in the magazine. To kill slow, use one type of ammo.

please no

Armor should have absolutely no effect on gameplay, ever.

While in theory it’s a nice idea, I fear that it would overcomplicate the game too much to really be fun. Remember that a lot of players won’t like having to put in the effort to switch ammo types midway through their clip and they might have the tendency to forget to do so as well.

Sure, it would add another level of skill to the game, but perhaps frustratingly so.

I instantly thought of Mass Effect when I saw the title.

Sounds like a waste of time. IMO

> Armor should have absolutely no effect on gameplay, ever.

He’s not saying that different armour pieces/sets would change your states, he’s just adding another layer of “health” to the two we already have, being shields and body health.

I would rather have the Halo 3 health system back.

I think it’s an interesting theory, but I think that game mechanic already exists to a degree with plasma and human weapons. Plasma based weapons are more effective against shields while human weapons are more effective against health.

Right, the armor you equip in your armory wouldn’t have an effect, the armor is just referring to your armor in general.

And I see what you mean Kalamari, I even got my idea from that. I just had this idea as a way to increase the skill gap without causing any bad repercussions if you use it right, and adding in a layer to where you could never be defeated an opponent who was less intelligent and aware in a regular gun battle.

If your opponent just doesn’t switch ammo, their going to lose. If your opponent fails to see your shield break, or fails to see your armor break to where you shed blood, their going to lose.

And I don’t even think it plays a big role in awareness. Did the yellow glow vanish? Press left on arrow pad. Did he start bleeding? Press left again.

Not a fan of your idea of different ammo. I just don’t think it fits for a Halo game.

Maybe just a game variant like this?

absolutely not

Sounds pretty cool. Ive been reading some of the novels.

I wouldnt mind it that much, but i know a bunch of Reach haters who hate change
and would cry about it forever and ever if it happened.

over complicated, not a bad idea, but not for Halo…

Definitely more mass effect than halo…as much as i like mass effect, i like my halo to just be halo

Sou ds great just kind of hard to see in a halo game, halo isn’t about who has up what bullets or armor, it’s about teamwork, map advantage, power weapons some skill and brains.

And yet Samuel, the biggest “toughest” Spartan, was downed with a single shot from a Plasma Pistol. If I’m correct that’s also what almost killed Linda.
