Shield Balance for Movement Speed

Anyone who’s played Halo 5 has noticed that the shields take much longer to recharge when sprinting. I don’t particularly care for that change. If anything, I would propose at the very least for a total reversal of this component to gameplay. I haven’t checked the custom games options, but for all intents and purposes in matchmaking, I would like to see an adjustment to this.

You don’t have to necessarily remove the slower recharge rate for when you’re sprinting, but a shield equalizer would help, I think, to balance this component a bit more. What I’m suggesting is that you’re shields be temporarily boosted in the direction OPPOSITE of player motion with increases in shield power being directly proportional to movement speed. I don’t want to be sprinting away from a bad spawn point only to be stopped in my tracks by enemy fire. Just my 2 cents.

Something like this doesn’t have to be that powerful. It could be something that maybe just prevents you from slowing down while getting shot until you take enough damage. Running away and finding cover is a dynamic I like. Taking away your shield recharge just seems silly to me. Why would running have anything to do with your shields anyway?

It takes long for your shields to recharge when sprinting because it doesn’t recharge while sprinting. It’s to balance people from running away, because you have to make the decision to keep fighting or run away. They’re both risky decisions…

Yeah. Okay but in Warzone I have to run and fight. What about when you’re running INTO THE FIGHT lol

I know you’re only Level 23, but later on, you’ll unlock Upgraded Thrusters. That Armor Mod is overpowered. Faster recharge, time to hit full sprint speed is decreased, and shields recharge while sprinting. Welcome to the Grind.

And a small tip for getting to places faster is Sprint+Thrust+Slide+Jump. You might already know that but it really helps.

The point is it punishes you for sprinting away from a battle. You can “walk” and have a chance to get your shield back, but someone else can catch up to you, or your can sprint and never get your shields back, and one placed bullet can put you down.

If you’re sprinting towards a battle, nothing happens, you should already be at full shields before you start a battle anyway.

I thought it was sprint + slide + thrust + jump?

I thought it was Sprint + Slide + Jump + Thrust ?

There is no gameplay mechanic or penalty regarding this, its actually a lore reason. You see the mjolnir gen 2 system is highly advanced with its thruster system allowing it to help the Spartan maintain sprint so they put less stress on their muscles and rely more on their thrusters, which allows them to sprint for very long times.
However thruster sprint requires energy and so does the energy for the armour suit to recharge shields. Only when the Spartan stops using sprint can the suit allocate resources to power shield recharge. There’s a reason why shield recharge is the fastest out of all Halo’s.
In the campaign Osiris and Blue team have the secondary effect of the armour mod upgraded thrusters.
So if you didn’t get it, the reason behind shields not recharging during sprint is lore base and has absolutely nothing to do with it being a gameplay mechanic. Its just pure coincidence.

This makes a ton of sense. Thanks, guy!

I sprint + jump + thrust + slide. I don’t know what the best is lol.

As to the topic at hand, the shields are balanced very well IMO. I don’t want to make sprinting more powerful, aka advantageous.

The actual mechanism used by high level players is sprint-thrust-slide-jump. This is the fastest of the combinations. Feel free to check out vetoed on youtube for proof.

Apparently it’s lore based as well as a way to prevent sprint from being a get out of free jail card.

I thought it was jump + -Yoink!- + slide + thrust…
wow the rest of that after the -Yoink!- sounds so wrong…
