I’ve searched for Oddball in Quickplay for the past 8 games. None. Honestly, I’m frustrated that the system sucks in so many different ways. I love this game, but the challenge system is so incredibly time & effort consuming at times that it pushes you to the point of burning out. And often not in the ways when you’re ‘challenged’, in terms of skill. So often it’s dependent on pure freakin chance.
I purposely stopped playing for the past 3 weeks so I could enjoy S2 better, but I came back for the Visor this week.
Let’s summarise our experiences here. Willing to bet there are plenty of worse ones out there.
I have no skips and have been trying to complete these 2 challenges for 4 days now. I want the black visor and have 1 day left to reach whatever the capstone challenge is
I need to get 10 kills while an enemy is attacking a friendly zone and i need to get 3 kills while an enemy is returning their flag. I hate these, especially the flag one. I need to find a one tap weapon, and then hope a player either dies with the flag near me and an enemy so i can then hopefully attack them while they are actually inside the flag ring and not outside it, or i need to throw the enemy flag at enemies so they can be inside the ring then hopefully kill them first and in time. And i usually only have a one shot chance every game, usually for about 3 seconds until they just return it. This challenge alone has caused me so much anger and stress by trying my hardest to force it to happen with so many methods. Last night i was trying to find either a CTF or stronghold match and i had to back out of 33 games resulting in 4 hours of waiting to play a single game, of which i wasnt able to find the niche situations happening at all and i didn’t make any progress on the visor. I hate this
I hate the challenge swap system. You should get a swap every so often after games, or simply make these highly niche one time scenarios not a challenge. I fail to see why needing to… take the enemy flag, die or drop it near enemies, then wait for them to go inside the return ring, then killing them WHILE INSIDE the return ring still, before they can fully return it you must use a weapon with the ttk faster than the return flag… is skillful or anything in that regard. It’s stupid and i fully hate this
I had the exact same. Not exaggerating it took me 21 games between quick play and ranked to find oddball. Unbelievably aggravating given it was my last challenge.
Not a fan of playlist specific challenges, and to be honest fiesta and tactical slayer are coming up far too much. I’ve used all my skips so I don’t have to play them
I had 2 killjoys challenges to complete on a 4-day crutch with roughly 2.5 hours a day for Tac Ops. Besides that, the complete 8 matches challenge from Tac Ops. Nearly didn’t complete it before the event ended. I had mostly good challenges. Not many bad ones aside from the ones from the second week of Tenrai. Those were a nightmare.
Had one to capture a flag, and one Stockpile challenge active at the same time.
Played BTB to get a chance of getting both. 15 matches straight with nothing but Total Control and Slayer.
Will quite frequently have a nice enjoyable experience until I need to gather points for challenges, then it seems the enemy team’s skill is significantly bumped up.
Kills with the main function of Swords and Hammers do not count towards Melee kills.
I feel your pain. I’ve had no challenge swaps for awhile now but wanted this week’s reward. I got fairly lucky this week that I didn’t have a lot of RNG based challenges. My 2 worst this week were capture zones in PvP which is actually an easy challenge once I finally got a Strongholds match. The other was win 2 Fiesta matches which wasn’t that bad for me because I generally like Fiesta and do pretty well but I can see how others might despise it.
Anyway, I got the capstone challenge done last night. Took 2 nights of pretty solid grinding to get everything done. I’d say probably 6-8hrs of effort total but I should see if I can find stats to confirm that.
I finally saw a weekly reward this week (Bell Toll visor) that I felt was worth putting in the effort of completing all those challenges and try for the cap. Most of the challenges were Tactical and Fiesta based so I was able to finish them without much trouble, but some of the challenges were for Cumulative Score in Ranked. Yeah… I don’t do ranked and will not so I swapped it… to an Cumulative Score in FFA… I don’t do FFA so I swapped it again… Win Oddball Matches. Another swap and it finally went to Cumulative Score Team Slayer. That sucks, having to use 3 to get a challenge that I feel I can complete within my limited time. Then the final challenge which I knew was coming was an Oddball PVP challenge. I can’t remember exactly what it was, but I hate Oddball so I was always going to use a swap on it.
Finally I complete all those challenges and see the final Ultimate Weekly Challenge. Get 3 Perfect Kills… I’m not a precision weapon player. I never have been and probably won’t be. I went to go look and see what the best way to do it would be and found that everyone suggests Fiesta or BTB and use a Shock Rifle. I thought that sounded doable, but after 7 games I was only able to get 1. I’m not going to have time for the next few days to play because of work and I’m just so sad I put in all that effort for basically nothing.
This is the first week I have been working towards the weekly reward since launch. I still have the capstone challenge to get but overall I really do not like this system. Even with swaps, it is a tedious chore and really is not fun playing Fiesta on Launch site time and time again. This is not fun and not the way I want to spend my time playing Infinite.
Had to play 2 strongholds games. Took 20 games to finally get 2. That’s like 4 hours for 1 challenge. The system is rigged against your challenges. Need a CTF game? Have fun playing Oddball and Slayer 10 times in a row.
I’ve seen stuff like this happen way too many times to believe it’s just bad RNG.
Stick with it man, you can do it! I was in despair about finishing the capstone too because I’m a KB&M player. I also found the same advice to use a Shock Rifle in Fiesta. It took me a few matches, and one guy who was clearly AFK, but I got it done. Just play passive once you get a shock rifle. Try to hang near, but behind your teammates and in corners where you can survey a lot of area at once. Also, for me at least, I found it easier to no scope with it.
no i literally don’t have time to finish because of my work schedule. i have spent all the time i’ve got this week playing and i couldn’t finish it. i tried, i’ve probably spent 4 hours total trying to get the last challenge and that was all i had left.
I had a rather difficult time finding an Oddball match in one of the past Weeklies. I use the workaround pretty liberally when it comes to seeing what game you’re gonna get in the Social Menu during Matchmaking and quitting when its not Oddball. While I heard that you could be banned for it, I never had it happen before since Infinite’s launch even though, again, I used it quite liberally.
Welp, it happened because I spent what had to be an hour looking for Oddball match. Even with the Social Menu+Press X, I didn’t get one Oddball Match.
Next day after waiting for the ban to wear off, I fortunately found it after three more tries.
And then immediately after I completed the Oddball Challenge I get an Oddball Match first try
That’s about my worst experience with the Weekly Challenges. Any others worth noting was when I completed Tenrai when it popped up and then the week afterwards when it was over I got quite a few Fiesta Challenges.
I like Fiesta, but completing a Tenrai Event and then getting so many Fiesta Challenges the week after did make me really tired of it.
Thats the reason why i stopped grinding the weekly challenges since mid of january. They are not worth my time.
This way i play only the gamemodes that i want (Quickplay, BTB, Ranked) and when i want, that’s it. Didnt chase 1 weekly since mid january.
Its absolute relaxing, if i have a good connection, a good flow, im playing more matches. If its a day with connection issues or im just not performing i stop playing after 2 matches.
I dont have to stay and play gamemodes that i dont like, wait to get the sepcific Gamemode for the challenge, thinking about if i should use a challenge swap or not because time runs out, only 2 days left to achive the weekly…
Come on, they are just cosmetics, if you stop chasing them, then 343 has to rethink their system.
Yesterday was the first time I played this week and I managed to get the visor. The trick is to plan what challenges you are going for so you can potentially hit multiple at once. The Oddball challenge was the biggest grind because like you said it depends on whether or not you are lucky enough to get Oddball. Additionally, needing to “Win” and oddball match is another challenge because you can get matched up with some dreadful teammates who don’t know how to work together to protect the Carrier. I didn’t get a win until my 3rd try.
At the end of the day, 343 is getting what they want out of players. Forcing them to grind and play the game to get cosmetics I guess. Some suggestions I’ve seen:
Let players choose their weekly reward (sometimes people have too much going on in a week to even play).
Challenge Swaps should be earned weekly. It’s kind of ridiculous that once you finish the Battle Pass you won’t earn anymore challenge swaps.
Challenges should be more generic, example instead of get 10 kills with the Heatwave, get 10 kills with any Shotgun type. This could apply to Oddball, instead win Quick Play matches. If they are going to make challenges specific then they should let players play the game mode that actually lets them go for that challenge. The current system actually encourages players to quit games if they don’t get the game mode they need.
I never got the oddball challenge. I’m waiting for a ctf match and waiting for a team mate to die with the enemies flag and waiting for the enemy to begin returning flag then i have to kill them before they return it. Which is a 3 second window so i have to be quick and not miss a shot and hopefully have a ttk that is faster than the return timer
