Evening/Morning all! Looks like I missed the little storm earlier whilst staying in my bunker of solitude on the Xbox One but now I’m back with some (fashionably) late Screenshots following the Up High theme, which has been more difficult to achieve than I initially thought…
@ Lixae: Well? Is a brilliant piece with the straight up look matched with the urban skybox of Perdition, the shadows and light play fantastically and adds a touch of story to the piece with the Spartan looking over you.
Eyepatch is a pretty cool one with the shadowed visor effect you get having 2 eye lenses instead of a solid visor on the EOD helmet. Nice choice with the dynamic monochrome tone too with the pose. Looks like someone put a certain skull on and needs a melee to regenerate shields… Zooming in a touch more on the Spartan would make it a perfect piece.
@ Z6 NITRO: Okay now those are some great Screenshots with the effect you’ve managed to pull off to only show the foot prints of the Spartan, especially with A Long Ways from Home, which looks the best form the pair in my humble opinion. Reminds me of a saying my Nursery gave me on a leaving gift when I was 4:
"Life is like a snow-filled field,
You choose which way you go,
But take care on what path you take,
For every step will show."
Seems apt for that piece methinks.
@ SpryMetal153: A nice variety of pieces there with some very welcomed feedback on how you made them, which I love to read from you all.
Green Reaper’s a very unique piece I really do like with the position and framing of the Spartan. Only thing I think it needs is the circle to not be cut out at the top and bottom to make the Screenshot perfect.
With Whiteout and the Blackout pieces, you’ve made some really cool opposite effects, but I feel you’ve cropped out the Hammer in Whiteout a teensy bit too much, which negates some of the action of the piece to me (might be wrong, what I say most definitely isn’t gospel). With the Blackouts, it’s a bit of the opposite (coincidental irony there) where it’s a little too zoomed out without enough focus on the Spartans themselves. Zoom in a touch more on them and they’d both look even better!
Birthday Death is a really funny and bright piece with the effect, posing and framing of the piece! Great job Spry (or do you prefer Metal?)! Now repeat after me ahem…
Aaaaaaa very merry un-birthday to you!
Now where’s my tea…

Aaaaaaand onto my newest mad creations. I originally tried doing stuff on Daybreak, but only got the one Screenshot with Overcast Sniper, but it sadly didn’t bring out any of the grey clouds I was looking for in the final piece. Happy with the posing of the Spartan though. Looks kinda like a night piece with the lighting from the jet pack included.
But after that, I jumped over to another Castle DLC map in Erosion and put together a better variety of pieces using the skybox provided:
-
Ring Jump - I tried to frame in the planet’s ring as best I could with my Spartan leaping and using its jetpack with the SpLaser. It proved a lot more difficult than I expected but finally managed to get this piece done.
-
Reddened Skies - I popped over to the other part of the open cliffs on the map to try and play with the soft kill zone to get a little more red in the shot, making this piece. I also tried a lower angle to add some more motion to the piece. Happy with the framing in the end.
-
Red Mist - After landing a little later, things got really red as the timer went down to 2-3 seconds and I got this piece after grabbing the skybox’s light source into the Screenshot, adding a misty effect to the piece.
-
Red Danger - This one was done without the light source’s glare being added, accentuating shadows more and making the Spartan look a touch more menacing as it got even redder with the “red filter of death”.
And that’s that from the Sky dept. for this week. I did try some other pieces though on Erosion, notably with some light behind my sprinting Spartan to make:
-
Backlit - Simply one of the tunnel lights behind my sprinting Spartan. I did try it from a more forntal position as well to make “Backlit II”, which has a touch more menace with the shadows and armour lights being picked out.
And finally one classic upshot piece was made with the weapon switch effect being used to provide the at ease position of the SpLaser, in my final piece “Switching Lasers”.
And that’s it from me! Next week I’m hopping over to London to attend the EuroGamer Expo (EGX), where some 343 staff will apparently be present. Odds are I won’t make many for this coming week’s theme, but best of luck to everyone and keep those pieces coming for our eyes to drink in!
17 out.
