> Out with the Old
> In a nutshell, the aftermath of ‘Broken Silence’. Though my first shot was in my opinion, the best of these, this one seemed cool since I liked the way the shell is caught by the sun. Plus, just capturing the shell is cool too.

Hey man! It’s neat to see more people getting into screenshots. Which… You call yourself a “newb” but you’re actually leaps and bounds better than probably 95% of the Halo population when it comes to taking screenshots.

I just wanted to say that out of the screenshots you’ve posted this far, Out with the Old is by far my favorite. I love the way that you have the sun lined up by the shotgun shell. It really is a nice touch. Since the shotgun shell is the “old” it really fits the title and the sun just highlights it as the focus of the shot. Very nice. Like you said, even having the shell in it at all is cool. It changes it up from the norm a bit, which is good.

So, since you are beginning the long journey that is screenshotting (you will be sticking around, right? You’ve got the skill), I figured I might give you a tip. Now, granted, this is personal preference and definitely does not apply to every screenshot. Anyway what I’ve found through my endeavors is that if you have your Spartan wearing that blue color or the basic red then it tends to look a little more amateur. I believe you said that you were just playing a game with some friends when you took this so there’s not really anything you could do there. But… In the future I recommend going into custom games with some sort of free-for-all setting on so that your custom colors will show. It gives the shot a little more personalization and allows you to match the surroundings better. Although I should say that the blue in this picture actually does fit the sky pretty well. I tend to use neutral colors and then let my visor do the talking. But like I said it’s just personal preference. There’s a lot of artists who can use some crazy juicy colors and make it work.

So… To conclude, I will again congratulate you on your successful shot. I like it. That sun and that shell- they make it.
I hope you keep it up!

> YAAAAAH!
> Floodpile!!!
> Hope you guys enjoy!

I certainly enjoyed!
Dude this looks amazing. My two favorites were the YAAAH one and Floodpile because both of them had one of the flood guys on the ground. It looks really cool. I don’t know what it is that makes it so attractive. I think it’s just that here’s this intimidating monster and he’s lying scared on the ground. It’s very curious. I wish I could get something like this. Like… If you could actually plan out a shot with a background and everything for this pose it would look SWEET.

Anyway, even with this just being a spur-of-the-moment glitch and you taking advantage of it- it turned out quite nicely! Very nice, very nice.

> Hey guys, Mecha here. Back in business with the screenshots! I had a few issues with my xbox live membership which I have now sorted out! so here are three shotgun themed submissions.
> Soldier
> Hope you like em and happy screenshotting!

Hello again!
Glad to see you still posting. Ok so your Soldier shot is my favorite of the bunch. Something about the simplicity of the black and white is so beautiful. I don’t know if anybody here would recognize this name, but an old Halo 3 screenshot veteran named BFO prodogy or itz Baby Fish would always say “simplicity at its finest.” I think that fits perfectly with this shot. The simplicity of the color scheme and the simplicity of the pose mix very nicely. I also must add that I love how the ship is in the background. It’s relevant to the title because it’s like the soldier just got dropped off into the battlefield. I think the more connections you can find in the picture the more attractive it becomes.

I likey. Keep it up, maestro.

> Underworld
> Masked
> Incognito
> These are my 3 carefully picked screenshots for Shotgun.

Underworld is my favorite because of the thoughtful angling and the dark colors. What I mean by this is… While I don’t know that I would consider the shot up to par visually with other shots you’ve taken on Halo 4, I think it really goes above and beyond with the concept. I love that you titled it Underworld and then got the angle from above. I mean… It just makes sense that you would be looking down on it. I don’t know that I would have thought to do that. Then like I said before having the dark shades is an obvious plus for the idea. Darkness is a must-have for the Underworld and you captured that nicely.

As for the other two, I think they are still nice. I do like that you covered up the faces and used that as your main focus. That’s pretty cool if I do say so myself! Well done, well done.

Thank you so much, and to Z6NITRO as well for such positive and encouraging feedback! It really means a lot to me. (^-^/)

I am planning to stick around and take screenshots when I have the time, it’s a great new experience for me. I’ve never really used Theater mode all too much before, but now that I know a whole bunch more about it, it’s like Halo’s new all over again. I also love to be creative.

Thanks for the pointers too. Yeah, it was a Forge match so that we could totally goof off and experiment as much as we wanted. Unfortunately, Forge has teams, so… there was that, like you said. But the ‘let the visor do the talking’… interesting. I will try that!

Good luck to everyone, and happy Halo!

It’s all about that Colorblind and Juicy! Woot, woot. Good choice. Haha.
Blue Thunder is easily my favorite of the three. I love how you tie in the blue of the lighting to the blue-ishness of the hologram. And because the pattern that the hologram leaves behind looks lightning-y (that’s a word, right?) it really fits. I would have liked to see it with some other pose… But as far as I know that’s impossible with holograms. Still- very nice shot. The background is breathtakingly beautiful and you tied in the colors magnificently.

Great job, can’t wait to see more.

Awesome! Yeah it’s a great way to relax but still do something productive which makes it the perfect time-killer. Haha. And it’s great that you love to be creative. That should factor in nicely. That means I’m expecting some stellar ideas from you. No pressure, though!

Feel free to add me on Xbox Live (I believe I have room on my friend list). I don’t get on all the time anymore but if we are on at the same time I would be glad to help out. That goes for everybody else too. I know there are some other people who I’ve said I’d help and haven’t gotten to yet so hook me up people.

Ah, I’m sorry for spamming this thread with replies and now my own shots. I just couldn’t bottle it in any further. I had to get re-involved (oh and I checked the rules first to make sure double posting wasn’t taboo or anything). So legalistically I’m safe. Now I just hope I’m not annoying you guys.

Ok on to the juicy stuff. Uh… We’ll start out with my shotgun themed picture.
| SOJOURNER’S WAYPOINT
^The name just came from an idea that I had earlier on in Halo 4. I made a shot called Pioneer’s Terminus and now this one is Sojourner’s Waypoint. It’s basically just to mean that the traveler has found his home. I was going to continue that idea with shots titled things like “Pathfinder’s Homestead” or “Trailblazer’s Destination” and stuff like that. I don’t know if that’ll come to fruition though.
So the shot… It’s kind of boring. But I like the contrast between the lighter clouds and the darker sky. I thought that was pretty neat. And the visor of course. That pinky-blue. Mmmm.

| COUNTERMEASURES
^This just came out of some experimentation. I am not too thrilled with how it turned out. The angle was harder to get on this one since I just didn’t know quite where to stand for it. But oh well.

| SOLAR FLARE
^Eh.

| carry the torch
^This one is for all of you other screenshot artists out there. I have been doing screenshots since Halo 3 and now will be going to college so I probably will not be getting the Xbox One or new Halo games (unless 343 were to sponsor me or something wink wink). So… That means I’m pretty much done. Emphasis on the pretty much. I don’t want to say that I’m not going to take any more screenshots ever because I like to take them so that would definitely be false for me to say that. But… It is just an announcement of “hey I’m leaving it to you all to take screenshots.” Because there’s a lot of talent out there and I’ve watched a lot of young, budding artists grow in both ideas and execution. Keep growing!

Stealth4ce - Thank you for the very kind words!
Just a point of reference, these are not the hologram, it is my Spartan. The hologram does not have an emblem on the shoulder, one way I try to tell them apart.

I try to position the Spartan so the hologram walks below (or drops) so I can get a shot of the Spartan as the hologram effect is wearing off.

For Blue Thunder it would have been hilarious watching me, pushing each bumper, switching my gun, or melee, and turning my spartan in some kind of timing order that matched up with the lightning. I was not lucky enough to catch it on my 1st try…

Thanks again!

edit
Great screens shots all! “CounterMeasures” is my favorite of the 1st 3.

I really like"Carry The Torch" Excellent angle and definition with a great title.
In my experience, you will have the opportunity to choose how you structure your priorities with your free time. The possibilities are limitless.
This is from a young artist that is very mature in years. Looking forward to more of your works and wishing you the Best!

That shot is FAR from boring.

Great job everybody.

ComicBeast1212, your shots are amazing. I think you tried to trick us all by pretending to be a “newb” … well played. lol

Thank you MrMartini. I appreciate that deeply!

Good looking shots everyone!

It makes me so happy to see the members of this side of the community getting featured often in the bulletins! Good luck with the shotgun theme and keep those great shots coming!

Good afternoon everybody. I hope all is well with everybody and that last minute contributions to the weekly ‘shotgun’ theme are coming along rather well. I can honestly say I have been seeing the creativity pick up in the last several weeks, especially with the ‘Shotgun’ theme.

Gothic Lucy I have to say I am really impressed that even with the ‘Shotgun’ theme, you managed to create amazing screenshots and keep your Silver collection going simultaneously. All three screenshots were amazing, but in particular, I really like ‘Incognito’ the most. You managed to pull off an interesting FX with this photo, not just by ‘covering’ the Spartan-IV’s helmet in light, but the circular lights were a nice touch as well.

Out of curiousity, did you use a shotgun or concussion rifle to create this FX? I have to recommend you playing around with this FX more in the future, because I can think of man, many amazing photos you can create with it in future themes. Well doen with your photos Gothic Lucy  .

ComicBeast1212, don’t be so hard on yourself. You did a great job with your recent screenshots. Afterall, remember, practice makes perfect  . I really like the lighting on ‘Broken Silence’ The shotgun’s blast (As you managed to utilize the lighting very well) is amplifying the sun’s light, giving the photo more of a morning feeling to your photo.

Now ‘Red Sun Rises’ actually has more of a beginning of a sunset feeling, comparing it to ‘Broken Slience’, but still is a very nice screenshot nevertheless. I am curious what gadget FX you utilized for such a photo. All of your photos are very nice, and I honestly think you are coming along pretty well as a fellow screenshot photographer as well. Well done with your photos  . Also glad you had fun on Kicking Mantis with the addition of well placed teleporters that will overlaunch Wraith Tanks if they boost into it  .

Z6NITRO, I’m glad to see that you’re having fun with the Hologram FX and that you have managed to create some awesome screenshots from it. Ican honestly say you managed to pull off ‘Acid Rain’ perfectly. Wreckage has some unique lighting that can give the feel of ‘alkaline precipitation’ should it ever rain there. The utilization of the Hologram in this photo was simply amazing as it looks as if acidic rain has actually damaged the armor. Brilliant idea, and very original  .

‘Blue Thunder’ has a different feel with the same hologram FX. In this photo, I am getting the feeling that this Spartan-IV was struck by lightning, but the energy and blast was actually absorbed instead of knocking out the Spartan’s shields. ‘Solitary’ is also a very nice photo. Well done with your screenshots

As for the markings on the forge monitor, RECEPTOR 17 and I were talking about this a while ago, when us, Gothic Lucy, and Cyrodragon95 did our light testing on Shatter, but we honestly thought it was normal. Never thought it was an easter egg or anything of that matter, just rather neat

Mecha Sh0ckwave, I also enjoyed your ‘shotgun’ themed photos. I can honestly say that I like ‘Shotgun’, as it is vivid with color, much so, that it looks as if your Spartan is by an ore vein of some sort. Question is, what is the ore? ‘Bright’ was also very vivid with color. I see you took a different approach with ‘Soldier’, using colorblind, which still came out very nice. I get the feeling from this photo, that this spartan-iv is on guard duty at an important UNSC installation. Well done with your photos  .

Cizlin, wow, another amazing glitch, and we were just talking about this last night as well. You told me that this was caused by blackscreen, causing a Flood to be treated as a Human, but with flood properties. Very interesting. I have to say that I am impressed by this and wish that this could be done under normal circumstances, but it cannot be done, so I must say, you are really lucky. This leaves the question of is this what happens when an infected human regains control and overpowers the infecting flood itself? Amazing and hilarious simultaneously, Well done and thank you for sharing Cizlin  . I guess Flood are happy as long as they have their cookies and as a group can have ‘happy’ moments once all the humans are taken out, lol.

I also do have to thank the screenshot community for being rather positive and being supportive. I’ll explain what I mean. On one of my recent photos, ‘Recon SURG II’, somebody yesterday spam-tagged it with ‘Horrible Photo’. Frankly, I didn’t care, and I also remembered what many of the positive photographers here told me. Well, I checked on the photo later, and it was up by two ‘likes/recommends’ and six people had tagged it with ‘awesome’. It also gained a substantial amount of downloads as well since, so thank you to everybody here who has been supportive and helpful. I guess the spam-tag failed and backfired, bringing more positive attention to the photo, like ‘a barrel behind the door’ .

I also want to thank deluca34 for being supportive as well to us fellow photographers, and want to welcome him back, as he has been more active in this last week. Welcome back deluca, we hope that as is well with you  .

Edit: Flood Humor. I wonder what would happen if the Flood discovered Mountain Dew and Doritos, lol. Better yet, would a Snickers candy bar satisfy a Flood’s hunger?

I almost forgot, I have one new photo to share with everybody, and it is forge art I created  . This photo is actually inspired by music I listen to. I won’t say anything else until after I post the link. Take a look and enjoy  .

Disturbed-The Guy

I like metal, especially Disturbed, and Disturbed fans should know who ‘The Guy’ is. I was listening to Disturbed last night and realized that nobody made forge art for some metal bands, including Disturbed, so here we go. Now Disturbed has fan/forge art here in the Halo community. Enjoy  .

This was created on Impact, utilizing Juicy and Colorblind FXs and was created in one of the cliffs. I can’t wait to hear feedback on this, as this forge art was actually enjoyable to create.

> I posted this question on the Halo 4 forum (hope this does not count as a double post…) but was not sure if any of the screenshot group was keeping up with the other forums….
>
> “Guilty Spark Art” Does anyone know if this is a 343i artist graphic or does this engraved logo on top of Guilty Spark have some significance? I was wondering if it was a logo from the race that created Guilty Spark (in Halo lore).
>
> Inquiring minds want to know!
>
> From a screenshot perspective, I used the Gadgets FX lighting and a steep angle to get the two toned colors, it is normally all blue.
>
> Thanks and have a great rest of the week.

I found a jpg on halopedia for the Mantle Symbol-Eld on the back of Guilty Spark in Halo3.
The symbol on the back of the Halo4 Guilty Spark has some similarities.
I did get some suggestions from several others, it was greatly appreciated, and I enjoyed the hunt for a little Halo lore

Congratulations to those who made the “shotgun” bulletin. Shout out to Z6Nitro for having 2 screenshots featured. Thunderous applauding from our studio audience ensues

Onto KOTH fellows. This is going to be difficult (at least in my eyes). How exactly would you sum up a game type in one picture? Aside from the past self explanatory multi team theme, I see abstract things ahead. I’m definitely looking forward to what you individuals can capture this week. If game types aren’t your thing, I do enjoy what other goodies you people can create. Keep the goodness coming guys.

Predator

Super Nova (It’s actually my ride!)

Just some awesome moments in MM and custom games that I decided to take. My real strength is in vids rather than pics, but none-the-less please enjoy!

Congratulations to everybody who made it onto the bulletin! I saw several familiar shots in there. It’s always nice to know you guys are getting the recognition you deserve. I can’t wait to see what you make for the KotH theme. I’m struggling to come up with an idea. Being tethered to one gametype is especially hard for me. I submitted a picture for the multi-team theme that I made a week or two after Halo 4 came out because it fit the idea of having a couple players on a same-color team. Now I don’t know that I can rely on any past pictures. I’m going to have to cook something up. Ah! Ok onto the brainstorming phase.

Good morning everybody. Normally I wouldn’t be up so late, but before I get into that, congratulations to everybody who had their ‘Shotgun’ themed photos featured. A lot of ideas were expressed and created for that there and I even seen people working together on ideas. I can only hope that this week’s theme, ‘KotH’ or King of the Hill can be as fun and spark many ideas.

I am up this early, as I have accidentally partially broke the map Wreckage, and in doing so opened up a lot of new doors for screenshot potential. I was trying to get up into an area in the map where there was electricity. Using a teleporter, I managed to do so, but I was elevated, which gave me ideas to add trait zones, thruster packs, etc.

For everybody to have more screenshot potential, for new ideas, as a gift from me, here is the map,

Floating Fun .

So you can understand the usefulness of this, let me post my photos and explain them. Also, note that you don’t have to be in Forge to use this map.

To start, I think I may have found an Easter Egg in doing so. I couldn’t help to notice what appeared to be an eye in the cloud formation.

Mind’s Eye

Now to continue, you can take vehicles through the teleporter and they will float. The mantis however is fully mobile and can move. Keep in mind you have ten seconds to move the mantis the way you want to as there is a soft kill boundary.

Floating Warthog
Floating Mantis
Shadowed Mantis

Now, I recommend you picking up a thruster pack before entering the teleporter. Why? The idea is once you are floating above, you want to aim toward the part of the sea that there is no water with the covenant ship scrap to the right and thrust toward that way until you either commit suicide or are killed by the guardians. Why? Because when you die, if you go back to theater mode, you can legitimately explore the outer areas now if done properly and view the towers  .

Forerunner Tower I
Forerunner Tower II
Forerunner Tower III
Forerunner Tower IV
Forerunner Tower V

Here are a couple other screenshots I managed to capture thanks to this  :

Corrosive Wastes
Desert Heat
Scrap Maw
Bloodmoon

I hope that this contribution helps others capture some new and awesome screenshots, so enjoy the gift. I can’t wait to see what comes of this. Have a great night everybody and good luck with your screenshots. Keep up the great work  .

Thank you so much! I wasn’t expecting such positive feedback in my early shots!
I guess the reason I’m hard on myself is because I came out with those screenshots mostly on accident. Secrets revealed!

Trying to get a better angle on what I was trying to capture (two Spartans back to back firing/reloading the shotgun simultaneously), I couldn’t just couldn’t get it the way I wanted. My friend offered to try, and begins flipping through perspectives like there’s no tomorrow. Somewhere in there, we spot ‘Broken Silence’. “Go back! Go back!” 'Back where?!" “I don’t know, I think we did something right!” Thus a legend was born.

‘Red Sun Rises’ (title taken from a Lord of the Rings quote) has a very unique FX: 'Return to Battlefield 10…9…8…" I didn’t realize the darkening screen would transfer over into a screenshot!

> Edit: Flood Humor. I wonder what would happen if the Flood discovered Mountain Dew and Doritos, lol. Better yet, would a Snickers candy bar satisfy a Flood’s hunger?

Hmmmm… if you feed a Flood combat form a Snickers bar, will it turn back into a human or whatever it was before infection?

“You’re not you when you’re hungry.”

> Great job everybody.
>
> ComicBeast1212, your shots are amazing. I think you tried to trick us all by pretending to be a “newb” … well played. lol

It was all a clever ploy!

No, really… I have no idea how I got this talent.
