Share Your Screenshots, Tips, and Tricks

Evening all! There’s some great stuff that’s posted since my last visit here, glad to see some new faces/helmets too!

@ Gothic Lucy: Some lovely stuff in that Lucy! Shellshock’s got a great look to it with the position of the Screenshot and the lighting surrounding the Scorpion, should be a shoe-in for the theme this week I think. Not too sure about it being in the “Silver Collection” though with that warm golden glow behind the tank. :stuck_out_tongue:

Conjurer looks absolutely stunning! Were you performing a Ballssassination with that posing? Great positioning of the lightning from the Volcano too, really makes the Spartan look menacing and powerful!

@ Cerilium: I know that feeling all too well sometimes, but as stealth4ce discusses, certain Screenshots that have a deeper meaning always add another special dimension of satisfaction when you look at them. Glad to see you back here too by the way!

@stealth4ce: First of all, I have to say your Fragile Beauty piece is absolutely beautiful! Great timing and positioning of the light with the Spartan’s arms being in the right place. It’s a shame it was done so long ago as it really deserves some more attention, a really touching tribute to your great-grandma too.

I’m gonna have to bother you about how to get that black light effect on the Monitors as I have some cunning plans with that ability…

Really like the pieces you posted, Sub-Heavenly Hosts looks like a great background/wallpaper piece, how many people helped out with that piece to get that many Monitors?
Nice work with Spark of Life, thanks for giving us that extra annotation too on how and why you positioned everything, glad to see some EVA love in there again too! What did you use to get that green effect?
The close-up shot of Project Middleground definitely takes the biscuit from the ones you’ve posted here as I love that sparks and close proximity of the Monitor in the Screenie!

@ Z6NITRO: Not just me then tagging old Screenies with “Heavy Vehicles then”… :stuck_out_tongue:
Really like the look of “We got Your Back” with the Red players all standing as one against those dirty blues. Agreed the lighting could have been better but it’s super difficult to get an atmospheric Screenie in Matchmaking so my hat goes off to you good sir for those ones you’ve taken this week!
The background on “Always midnight” looks superb! I take it an assassination was being performed to get that fantastic posing with the Stalker Spartan?
PS: No worries about the name of the Screenshot with “Contrails and Caps”, great minds think alike.

@ TheKingOfLlamas: Welcome to our humble thread first of all! Thanks for posting up some Screenies for us to look at! Some very good shots form Matchmaking in there, especially the Banshee love. Here’s a couple of quick tips and advice for you to help get you to take even better shots (if you know any of these already, my apologies):

  • Remember you can always make Screenshots by playing Custom Games by yourself or with other people with Custom Forged Maps and Gametypes to help you to get some special shots, including adding Forge FX, like Juicy and Colorblind (you’ll find them under Gadgets in Forge, you can add them to any map.)

  • Ensure that you get Screenshots without the background being too busy or noisy, whether it’s action going on behind or a lot of map detritus (unless that’s meant to be part of your Screenshot’s focus). Walls, rocks and the Map’s distant landscapes and skyboxes are often the best to use with your Spartan.

  • To get some good angles of a Spartan without too much “noise” in the background, you can zoom in as you would with a scoped weapon.

  • If your having trouble with timing a Screenshot, simply pause the video and lightly hold down the firing trigger. You’ll then get a super slo-mo “frame-by-frame” video to play with so you can get blasts/poses/effects just right.

I gotta admit, from your Recent Screenshots, the one I like the most is the close up one of your Mark V helmet form Husky Raid. Nice positioning and angle! The one of the Spartan “running” on the Ghost’s nose is also a fave for it’s sheer oddness! Someone’s clearly been playing with the Matrix there…

++++++

And now onto my own mad work! My Recent Screenshots is currently filled to the brim with 25 brand new Screenshots featuring Heavy Vehicles and also some Spartans in varying armour for a new fan-fiction I’m putting together focusing on some home-grown S-IV Fireteams called Wasp and Fox.

But with the theme of “Heavy Vehicles”, I decided to bring out the Wraith and Scorpion from the Garage (along with a Banshee for a short while) to get a variety of Screenies on different Maps with varying FX. Here’s some higlhights:

Lurking - Very simple one of a Wraith lurking in the shadows on Outcast with Juicy and Colorblind FX active. Really like how you get the electrical discharge beneath the Wraith form it’s anti-grav generators.

Fire Trail - Taken on Outcast as well, I timed the Scorpion firing with the trail of smoke coming out of the barrel and the fired round providing the warm light.

Ridge Defence - My fave out of the Heavy Vehicles I’ve done this week, I took this one on one of the natural ramps on Vortex with Juicy and colorblind active once again. I made sure that the turret was turned and had just fired to give the tank a more “active” feel to it and the headlamps add an eerie-ish look to it too.

Scarred Veteran - I went a little left field with this piece in damaging my Scorpion to near destruction to have it on fire and smoking, paired with the Colorblind and Olde-Timey FX on Outcast once again. Originally I’d planned for the ship on the map’s animaiton to be in the background to add some extra narrative to the piece, but I preferred having the planet and sunlight behind the tank instead.

Contrails II - The Banshee returned on Vortex with me making another very simple piece focusing on the Banshee’s elongated “vapor trails”, also known as contrails with a plain and dark background behind it to bring out the lighting on the Banshee.

I’ve also tagged some older Screenshots with Heavy Vehicle, mostly Mantis pieces like “Void Stride” and “Stomped”.

+++++++

And that’s that from me for the moment! I’ll be making a separate post tomorrow on the Fireteam Wasp Screenshots I’ve taken as I’m running out of character space…

Good luck to anyone who’s going to the Heavy Vehicle theme!

Glad to see you again! It’s always a treat to get in-depth feedback.
And, well, I’m here to return the favor.

I really like your Lurking screenshot. The darkness of it really captures the essence of the hidden predator. I think your choice of vehicle was nicely planned on this one. The Wraith worked perfectly. It certainly wouldn’t be the same if you had used a Scorpion. Also you had some nice coloring! Really great job overall.

Then my other favorite of the ones you posted is Contrails II. It’s so beautiful. I mean it looks so soft texture-wise and the reddish-purple mix in the coloring is outstanding. It looks very professional. Everything is very well defined and your framing is really great. I know there’s a “rule” of photography about “leading lines.” Your shot did a great job of making it easy for the viewer to follow the contrails from the top to bottom.

Always looking forward to seeing more screenshots!

Hey everybody! I know I’m starting to make an appearance too frequently now… But… It happens.
Anyway- I whipped up my submission for the “Heavy Vehicles” gallery and also a few new others.

So to start out, here’s my heavy vehicle submission:
| FORKLIFT
Yep. So it’s a forklift. Pretty simple. And I know you’re like, “But that’s not a heavy vehicle!” And I reckon that’s true… But I decided to broaden the interpretation. I know there were some players who got a little too attached to forklifts on Halo Reach so I figured that somebody out there would appreciate this. But, I don’t know. Maybe everybody who sees it will just think I’m dumb. That’s ok.

And now I will briefly jump back to the black-eye monitors:
| SEQUESTERED REIGN
Don’t worry- there’s just one shot with the monitors this time. I know I kind of force-fed you too many last time I posted. I’m just so excited about the effect.
Anyway- as far as the meaning goes- I got the idea that this monitor was alone. There’s nothing revolutionary about that. Tons and tons of people make monitor screenshots and draw attention to the fact that its lonely. So, this one is just another to walk down that road (or sidewalk I guess because walking in the road is dangerous). I just felt like I needed to do it. The monitor is alone so naturally he is the “king.” But he rules from withdrawal. He resides over wherever it is that he lives, but he has nobody to rule over. So it’s basically pointless… Wow. That really is depressing…

Ok here’s a Spartan-shot I got from that same game:
| A NATURAL BLINDFOLD
There are a lot of people who make foggy or cloudy screenshots with the titles: Smog, fog, and mist. So instead of making it something too common (lol bcuz i just told u about how i made my sequestered reign shot with a common theme) I decided to set mine apart just by going a tad bit deeper. Instead of smog that you can’t see through- it’s nature’s way of “covering your eyes.” So my title was born.

And here’s a scenery shot:
| SOLARSCAPE
So when I first saw this I was reminded of one of my scenery screenshots from Halo Reach (this one). It has a warm overtone so I guess I just associated that with the sun. That’s about it. I thought it was pretty, even if it is easy to do.

>>>>>>

Ok so today I got on Reach, and I know I’m cramming too many screenshots in here but I really wanted to share them with you.

Here are a couple that I did on campaign:
~Tribulations~
Okey dokey… So I know that this shot isn’t that appealing… But please just respect it because of the effort that goes into it. To do shots with night-vision is to turn on night-vision and then lower your weapon. In theater mode you have to be attached to the player with night vision and if you move it deactivates. So you basically have to frame everything in-game. What your player sees is the final product. So I gave this marine a sniper rifle, pushed him all the way to the edge of the map, and then tried to frame him correctly in my HUD. Unfortunately this was the best I got. He disappeared briefly after I took this… :frowning:

~Melting Point~
This one I’m just proud of because of the red-tinted sword. Yep.

~Atmoshperic Anomaly~
Just a monitor (and no it doesn’t have a black eye).

Ok well thank you for checking out these shots! Again I’m sorry if I’m putting out too much at one time. I normally have a lot of space between the times that I do my shots. Well… I guess I’ll just blame it on my snow days then.
Thanks again and I hope you all have a great week.

never posted here but I remembered I had this and thought it would be cool to share

titled it Falcon KICK! - seemed appropriate

happened a while back in a matchmaking game - only screenshot I ever took

Heh, thanks for the feedback, Receptor. My aim of those pics was to show the whole chaoticness and fun of your average Heavies game. Will post more soon!

@stealth4ce: Once again a great post full of superb and funyn Screenshots, definitely love the Forklift one the most. Must be my sentimental side remembering Reach’s Forklifts…
Nice to see some Reach Screenshots in here too, I never really learnt how to take good ones on that game so seeing other peoples’ good stuff always gives me an awed smile. The night Vision one I really like as I appreciate the difficulty in getting those pieces, you pulled it off really well with what you had to play with.

@EShaw19: Greatly timed capture! Always love seeing the “This is Sparta”-esque assassination Screenshots. Good positioning and angle with the Screenshot too!

@TheKingOfLlamas: No problemo! You certainly capture the entropic madness of a Heavies game in those pieces, so you achieved your objective well!

+++++++

I’ve decided to finally work on putting together some Screenshots showcasing characters for a fan-fiction I have in my mind, featuring a home-grown Fireteam based off of the Infinity acting as a first response and recon team alongside another Fireteam of some newly discovered Forerunner installations upon an outer-colony world named “Odyssey” after the Didact’s return.

So focusing currently on the first group, Fireteam Wasp, here’s some Screenshots of each member. I ensured all were taken on the same map to add consistency and I tried to make the Fireteam’s symbol visible in each one, but certain angles just don’t work in the end.

So starting at the top we have Wasp’s team-leader:

Spartan Felix Arran:

  • Tinted Wasp II – I used the old soft kill zone effect again to make this piece, with the redding out when the countdown reached 2 seconds. I also took one without the Forerunner tower visible too as I couldn’t decide which was better.

  • Yellow Menace – Same spot as above, just a different angle and without the red-out.

Next up is Arran’s second in command (2IC):

Spartan Amelia Santos:

  • Defending Sentry – The Defender armour rarely gets any love, so I thought I’d give it to Wasp’s 2IC. I’m really happy with this piece, thanks to the background and pose with the Turret. This lady’s got some serious firepower!

  • Observance - A simple crouching Screenshot where I tried to get as much of Santos’ body in as possible and still have the weapon, helemt and symbol visible. took a few attempts but got there in the end.

Spartan Mikhail Kolarov:

  • Blast EscapeAfter finally earning the Mounted Turret Mastery, I decided one of the characters should have the Enforcer TRBL armour so it could be given a spin. It’s a shame I didn’t make this piece for the Explosions theme 2 weeks ago, ah well.

  • Enforcing SAW - Really simple piece in trying to get a semi-neutral background with the sole focus being on the SAW-wielding Spartan.

Spartan Paige “MJ” May-Jones:

  • Rail Distort - I always love the light and distortion you get form a freshly fired Railgun piece, especially when tied in with this golden Wasp armour the Spartan’s wearing.

  • Charged Wasp – Simple timing just before the firing of the Railgun to get all of those magnetic circles in.

Spartan Lex Grumman:

  • Golden Pioneer - Taken at the Spawn point to the back of Vortex, where you have all the power arcing around. Looking back on this one, I think I should have zoomed out a little more with the background. Maybe next time…

  • Sniper Wasp – Really satisfied and happy with the angle and background on this one, with the shadowing behind the Spartan and the light beneath the rifle.

+++++++++++

And that’s that from me! I’ll probably post up a thread dedicated to my random writings of Fireteam Wasp and Fox later on once I’ve got some stuff written down properly if anyone’s ever interested in reading it. Next up alongside the new theme when the Bulletin’s posted will be Screenshots of Fireteam Fox.

17 out

Congratulations to all those selected in this weeks Halo bulletin “Heavies” theme. Really great screenshots!

@Receptor17 - 2 screenshots this time, impressive and well deserved.
also, Fireteam Wasp, really great idea. It will be interesting seeing and reading their story unfold.

@Eshaw19 - I like “Falcon Kick”. I find it enjoyable going to theater and capturing those moments that stood out to me after a game is over.

@TheKingofLlamas - Great job on the in-game heavies. Looks like you were having fun!

I have found slightly playing with the angles will sometime’s help with lighting and how sharp the subject lines are for in-game screenshots.

@Stealth4ce - I really liked “SolarScape”, For me, the red-orange tone’s definitely gave it a feeling of desolation.

I have spent some time this week on a map Elite Tenure created (USOL_DGI/070714/Status/Online) and struggling to accomplish being able to do justice to the great forging of the space station. The station is so massive!
I can only imagine the time and effort it must have taken to create the station.
For now I was just working on getting the focus and clarity defined with the lighting FX. I have a ways to go… but hoping to have a screenshot that includes the station at some point. I may have to change the lighting FX for my capabilities. 3 FX’s, including Nova, are a little out of my comfort level.

I did take a couple of Spartan close ups: (sans station - FX: Juicy, Nova, Colorblind)

Have a great weekend ALL!

Here’s some shots for you guys that I took a long time ago. So long ago that they’re actually from Reach.

Took these playing co-op with my brother on the mission nightfall - we were a great team back in the day

I guess I was hoping to get a series of screenshots that when viewed together told a little bit of a story.

I don’t really think I pulled that off but I still think they’re worth sharing

Hmm? Reach,I am seeing a load of Reach screenshots today. That a coincidence?
Just wanted to say I’m looking incredibly forward to all the screenshot maker’s interpretations of Love for this weeks spotlight. And as the Halo Bulletin Says “Keep it clean.” lol
Super Excited

I won’t be telling any of my Love spotlight ideas in depth. It’s a Secret <^-^<)Uh kirby went stupido.
But I can tell you it includes Couples.

Good evening everybody.

I’ve been a bit busy lately with certain aspects of my life and I finally managed to get a moment to check this thread to see how matters are going and see what new screenshots have been posted since my last visit. Before I do that, I wanted to congratulate everybody who had their ‘heavy vehicle’ themed photo posted. Well done with such screenshots. From what I understand, this week’s theme is ‘love’. I’ll be taking a break for a bit with posting new photos, at least for this week.

Wow I missed out on quite a bit in the last several days.

Stealth4ce, I am really amazed at your Monitor themed photos. I am really curious on how you managed to pull of such a nice FX with the monitors. They’re nice and shiny, although their ‘eye bulb’ looks burnt out, almost black. I can see potential ideas for this, especially along the lines of the effect you created in ‘|Project Middleground’ . I can give you possible ideas if you PM me.

I also like your Forklift entry for the ‘Heavy Vehicle’ theme, as the photo shows off the Forklift, but the watery background looks somewhat liquid metallic, which is really neat. I really like ‘Solarscape’ as well. I dunno what gave you the inspiration on that photo, but it is really nice with the combined elements in the photo. Well done on your photos  .

Z6NITRO, you managed to capture some really nice ‘Heavy Vehicle’ Themed photos, especially with the Mantis, utilizing it’s composure to have a hunting like feel, as if a Praying Mantis would, especially in 'Here Banshee, Banshee… '. Well done with your screenshots.

TheKingofLlamas, you also managed to capture some really interesting ‘Heavy Vehicle’ themed photos. I like the photo ‘8’ in particular, as it looks like a squadron of Banshees has flown into Human controlled territory, and it’s up to that Spartan to defend. I would take Receptor17’s advice though to help expand your creativity with your photos, as from what I can see, you can set up some stories with your photos.

Receptor17, I can see that you really managed to put alot of time and thought into your ‘Heavy Vehicle’ themed photos, as not just do the photos seem to tell stories, you also managed to create awesome and unique FX utilizing lighting and other elements. They all are amazing, fantastic job on those, especially ‘Scarred Veteran’.

I also must say that I like your Fan-Fiction created Spartan-IVS for Fireteam Wasp, especially the leader Felix Arran, as his armor configuration feels more insect, or ‘wasp-like’ to speak compared to the other members, which would be fitting for a leader. Very thoughtful fan-fiction and creative photos, well done on those.

Eshaw19, I do find the relation to F-Zero and humor in your photo ‘Falcon Kick!’. This was a really funny capture and hopefully we might see it in a future Fun Friday Capture. You also managed to capture some really neat Reach photos. My favorite out of your batch is ‘Bad Moon Rising’, as it has alot of the nice elements in the right place, creating an awesome photo, computer wallpaper worthy as well. Well done with your photos.

I do happen to have one new photo to share with everybody, and it is forge art again on Impact. For those Red-alligned old-school Magic: The Gathering players, I have done a recreation of an old artwork from an old ‘interrupt’ card (By the errata it is an Instant). May I present to you:

Fork .

As much as I have a history of disliking red cards in Magic (Long story behind that, if you want to hear it, PM me, or talk to me when I’m online), this is one of a couple of Red cards I have always liked. An awesome old style artwork that creates red copies of instant and sorcery spells. Most red players these days tend to like Reverberate, but Fork is the original and has better artwork.

Ahem… back to the Halo aspect of it, I used both Juicy and Nova FX and put the FX balls themselves within the kill balls, giving the impression of additional light balls beyond the fourth. The rest was simple alignment of the pieces I used with the ‘nova’ in the background and this was the end result.

Well, that is everything from me for now, so everybody have a great night now and keep the awesome photos coming  .

Seems as if no one has posted their ‘love’ shots’ yet.
(No Lucy,no bragging :open_mouth: )

This is not an image you would think that would be in the Silver collection.Well instead of keeping the silver collection to its original meaning:black & white filters or otherwise the colourblind effect,I wanted to broaden its meaning to using other colours because the screenshots may mean less to others(Silver)but to me its colour is the most vibrant of all. That make sense? Idk it’s difficult to translate through a few words.

Now onto my Love screenshot,I now decided to add a small paragraph on its meaning, its process and its relation to all people in one way or another.

Roses are Red is dedicated to a very unique person(can you guess?)indeed.I won’t go listing a name but he means the universe and all that is in it.This screenshot has an element that everyone can take on board when looking at it and that is that we cannot go on without love or recieving some love.

Here is my Love screenshot entry!
Roses are red…

It looks better on Xbox somehow…the computer has somehow shown me extra space of the image I took and therefore I can see the platform. :frowning: Oh whatever, its decent I suppose.

That’s a lovely screenshot, Gothic Lucy. The man in your life must be a lucky guy. Good luck with your love.

Oh, and the moon is silver… and vibrant, and pretty… the moon gives light.

I made a screenshot for “love”, although I just made it today, but it’s an evolution of my past Halo screenshots involving the ghost vehicle. This time, there’s more than one ghost.

Love the screenshot and forge artwork

I also have to remember what I see on my tv screen in theater is not the entire image when viewed on my monitor. Yours is way better than decent :stuck_out_tongue:

@oObeX, really Like “Ghost” great screen shot.

Good luck to all participating in this weeks theme.

Happy Valentines!

Really Nice montage and GREAT screenshots. I think the flow and diversity went well with your choice of music.
I really appreciate the opportunity to see the creations from many of the artist’s I recognize and respect since I found “theater”. Thank you for sharing!

on that note, just an FYI, Josh - OIAH also has his Montage 13 posted:

I’m glad you decided to post this!
It does such an incredible job of portraying what the glory days of the Halo screenshot community were like. :’)

I hope everybody that visits this thread takes time to watch it because it’s so powerful.

@Smileyken “Luck!” :slight_smile:

My 3 newest for the “Magnum” theme this week. All are from Outcast, Juicy and Colorblind.

I really like this outcrop on Outcast and have wanted to try and capture some screenshots with it included.
The same for the skeleton rib cage.

I have tried on numerous occasions to accomplish this and I think I am getting closer to capturing some decent shots.

Good luck to all participating in this weeks “Magnum” theme and congratulations to those selected in last weeks “LOVE” theme

Really need to get back at taking screenshots. Never really used all 4 controllers, but most of my screenshots used 3… And I am down to only 2. I guess I am going to get used to it.

Predator is fantastic! The skeleton looks pretty authentic and the whole color scheme and rock scheme compliments it. The pose was executed very well and gives it that true predatory feeling.
