I got the master chief collection like a week too late to play the beta and wanted to hear everyone’s thoughts on the experience. I want to hear everything from the bad to the good. Thank you for your time.( if there’s already a thread for this I’m sorry I must have missed it please direct it to me and If I can figure out how I’ll remove this)
The beta was awesome and I had a lot of fun with it. It was weird because the beta felt like the finished version of the game. Since the changes have been made after the beta I can only think it got even better. Bottom line is that after the three weeks of the beta I was left sitting there wanting to play more. Most betas I usually get tired of playing even if they last a week. The game is what Halo 4 was trying to be.
Loved it. So much fun. I actually felt like a badass spartan.
Been around from the beginning, thought 4 was garbage, liked Reach but have missed the classic Halo gameplay since 3.
All that being said, the first week of the beta (AR starts) was the most fun I’ve had in a Halo game since the launch of Halo 2 on Xbox Live.
For me it was awesome! the new movement additions change the gameplay to make it feel fresh but it doesn´t change the halo formula to a completely different game and the close in on the sights of the weapon doesn´t change gameplay at all, and for last the only thing i didn´t like was the new ability system it suppose to measure your ability, but only takes win or loss and sometimes it felt unfair, because even if you are the one with the most kills but if you are in the loser team ,your raiting is going to low anyway
But in general it was awesome
Well for me in Aus, I had a lot of fun but it was also INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING.
The matchmaking did not account for my region and as such 90% of the games were played on 200-300ms ping, meaning the game pretty much didn’t play as it was supposed to. People glitching, shots not hitting, etc etc, all the horrible connection related fury inducers you can imagine.
That said I got really into the gameplay and the few matches I did have that didn’t lag were a lot of fun, as a fan of older Halo’s and a competitive player, it really had that ‘halo’ core I was looking for.
I preferred the Magnum AR starts over the BR starts (even though I’d never say that in older Halo’s) because TTK is slightly shorter so the BR is just a little too deadly cross-map for that kind of start to be fun. Magnum AR worked much better. One of the best changes was the decreased aim assist and improved hit detection/bullet magnetism. You can really outshoot someone now, even with a gun like the AR. Sprint didn’t feel OP like it does in H4 and thruster just adds some incredible movement and furious pace to the engagements. Really missed clamber after going back to MCC, it just feels natural.
Maps were very fun, Empire and Truth were my favourites although I really grew to like pegasus the more I played on it, some really interesting engagement areas and sight lines.
EDIT: This came across as incredibly positive now that I read it back hahah, there were some issues I had but honestly most of them have been addressed, they’re really listening to the feedback. An example o this was the bullet magnetism (bullets used to hit even if they should have missed) which has been fixed, headshot crits from spray weapons was in the beta (meaning if someone was spraying you and some of the spread randomly hit you in the head you’d lose the fight), they took that out. Prophets Bane (the legendary power weapon energy sword on Truth) was WAY too bright and they adjusted that.
Was sniping in the map empire, getting kills, you know, the usj. A sneaky hero appears in my radar and I quickly turn to my right to see the hallway he was coming from. I was worried, my knees felt kinda weak, arms felt heavy, theres vomit on my screen, mom’s spaghetti. I see the noob he shoots me once I run the opposite direction to lure him for an awesome kill. I he gets close for the assassination, I jump over then thrust so I ended up behind him. At this moment I was excited, I felt the cheers of a whole stadium, I was actually pulling this off. I go for the assassination it goes into the animation the hype is real, 343 is about to call me to congratulate me on my achievement and reward of an early copy of H5. The animation interrupts itself and just cancels out before I have the knife behind my victim. We were both confused for a split second, recovering from what just happened. He then murdered me instantly. It’s on my upload and everything.
10/10 “Would have mom’s spaghetti on my screen again”.
Played it so damn much, thought there would be a Warzone beta from E3, now the blue balls wait until release
I hugely enjoyed the beta and patiently await halo 5’s release

Here’s a +1 for effort
The beta was fantastic. Unfortunately for me I have a harder time playing some of the older halos now.
Breakout was a lot fun. Those 1 vs 4 moments or the the score is 0-4 for the other team and you just start winning round after round and then you find yourself in a sudden death match. That game can get pretty intense.
Personal highlight: Playing on Orion, sprinting towards all 4 enemy players over the bridge and press slide last second, sniper misses me who is standing straight ahead. Then I unload with SMG, after he dies thrust around the corner and just start spraying, get a double kill and before the last 2 guys could do anything my team just hammers away on the other 2 guys with BR and BAM we win the game. All that happen in about 3-6 seconds. Also this one moment made me totally love the slide feature.
The beta was amazing from what I played. The detail on the new maps made me stand around a little longer than I should have, just admiring the aestethics. I grew to like the Smart Scope feature - even on weapons that don’t have scopes. I struggled to adapt to and use all the new Spartan abilities (Ground Pound originally being on crouch - right thumbstick for me - made it not worth using). The gunplay is as good as ever and I favoured the ‘one life’ aspect of Breakout. However, with power weapon spawns being announced in Arena, players would tend to camp near the spawns during some games.
I experienced minor UI and gameplay problems which I assume have since been fixed. I didn’t have much experience with the limited ranking / unlock system in the beta, so I can’t report on that. The new forge maps (Pegasus / Orion) showed off Halo 5’s forge palette and one of its environments, which contained (as usual) a lot of water. Overall, the beta was a great look into the Arena and Breakout gametypes. Hope this helps.
It was the most fun rage inducing game ever made. I’d recommend trying to get at least one friend if you want to enjoy the Arena, either that or be a total badass like me.
Well it was great, i didn’t really like the dark lighting when you customised your spartan.
It’s been awesome!
Apart from the red triangle fiasco in the first days (blocking you from searching for games for some reason) is was incredibly fun for a beta.

Didn’t play, don’t care. -Yoink- sprint insta kill attack and ground pound.
Edit: It smells a lot like BK in here. Oh well, at least not all BK.

Just because someone likes Halo 5 doesn’t mean they are a newbie to the franchise or they suck at the game.
Super fun, extremetely fun! And the most important thing, it has not lost the Halo essence

You apparently do if you took the time tipost in here on how much you don’t care, heh…
Anyway, I spent most of my time in Breakout due to the relatively short rounds. When I did play Team Slayer, I hogged the Hydra whenever I could. Such beautiful destruction.
If, at launch, the connection quality is the same as the beta’s, I’ll enjoy playing something multiplayer somewhat regularly.
