Share 1 Good & 1 Meh from Campaign Reveal

Just share with me at least 1 or more good things that really caught your eye
But also share 1 Meh or not so impressed thing from it.

I’ll start
I was wowed by the open world freedom, I’m getting Farcry or Ghost recon vibes to roam around and tackle missions how you want to with optional routes to handle them.

Meh was the upgrades to the chief. I always loved the linear just point and shoot with a story and I am a huge destiny fan and that’s all I play and Halo was hoping to be my escape let me just run thru a campaign how I want but the upgrade system it teased I hope it’s simple and doesn’t have “builds” or “stats” that I will have to work to get for example higher Armor points in order to defeat a Bullet sponge boss and it’s more of your Grapple hook charges faster.

Either way super excited! I will love the sense of just diving in!
Tell me your takes

1 good thing would be new enemies aka the skimmers but sounded like theres more than just those. keeps thing also fresh.
1 meh thing would be the landscape looked the same, I hope theres places like jungle, desert, etc

1 good thing improve graphics a huge improvement.
1 meh thing, i didnt saw any night level part… or diffrent part of Halo ring like desert or snow mountains… just trees, i hope i am wrong and we will have more variety in the map like Halo CE.

One great thing: The story and cutscenes are fascinating so far. This will probably be a highlight of the game for me. (Classic marine design is back as well!)

One meh thing: The gameplay looks a bit like a Halo power fantasy. Unlimited vehicles seems a bit OP, enemies die in two shots, enemies might not scale with upgrades. Bosses are ridiculously underpowered.

Good: The open-world/environments look great.
Meh: The combat loop looked fun, but didn’t seem to pop like the OG Halo games did. Nothing will ever top the gameplay loop of Halo CE single-player.

Good: Sandbox is on full display and the ability to hold multiple pieces of equipment. Possibilities are endless. Huge visual overhaul to boot.

Meh: Area variety, it all seems the same aside from some interiors. I hope to see different area that have a much different look to them. Some weather could also help this drastically.

The scenery looks incredible. I could do without the health bars though. Kinda seems like a role playing fantasy type of thing. All together though, I’m giving it a solid 10 out of 10!

Good: Vehicles! One reason I don’t love Destiny 2 is the scarcity of great vehicles. Any chance to take a Wasp, Scorpion or Banshee out for a ride is a win in my book.

Meh: I didn’t really have one. Game looks lit.

I loved everything. But the explosions look like they need work. Not a big deal though.

Really love the variety in enemies. Wouldn’t mind seeing some old species and enemies return. Like engineers, drones or flood. They could be interesting to fight with all these new abilities.

But that phantom design is not my favorite. Prefer the one from the season 1 trailer (the old kind).

I feel you.
The health bars just make me think of the bullet-sponge Destiny bosses.
My hope is that they have more strategy to them, like involving certain areas to shoot, or environmental elements being used to defeat them.

With Tartarus, you couldn’t deal damage except in the few seconds after Johnson landed a sniper hit to door his shields. Stuff like that would make them more interesting.

As a heads up, there is supposed to be a day / night cycle or at least dynamic lighting as the sun moves in the sky. Totally agree though, I wish there was more variety in environments!

Anyways,

Good: Story looks super engaging and interesting, a big improvement on Halo 5
Meh: Not totally sold on the map objectives & associated spartan upgrades. Seems like unnecessary busywork, shouldn’t need it unless the game gets a lot harder later on like Doom Eternal for example. I like doing my legendary solo playthroughs, don’t make it easier for my mates XD

Edit: Btw my guess is that it pretty much is busywork and they just needed to add some stuff on because they’re shipping the campaign only at full price, otherwise a standard Halo campaign just wouldn’t be worth it to a lot of people. Imma try and see how easy it is to skip all that stuff for the sake of curiosity. I hope they make doing so an achievement!

Good: All the changes to open world seem great, beautiful scenery and an upgrade system to make the game fresh and progressive. The difference between start of game John and end of game will probably be huge, bet post campaign you will feel like the ultimate Spartan.

Meh: I really don’t have much to criticise. I’m not a huge fan of open world stronghold side sections. Lots of games use them and I’ve not found a single one that I enjoy doing them yet. Beyond the first 1-2 they all seem very routine and dull so I’m hoping they have found a way to keep these ones fresh if there are a lot of them.

good: graphics look much better now

bad: ESRB lacks gore so there will be no flood.

From what we’ve seen so far the upgrades seem fairly minor and hopefully won’t be integral in order to progress the story, although I’m sure that having upgrades maxed out or decently leveled will make certain areas/fights easier. There also seems to be a lot of collectibles to get such as skulls and other lore bits which was a huge plus for me from the campaign showcase. Another plus for me were the graphics look better now than they did before for sure and like you said the more open world vibe definitely suits a Halo game. I also liked that the game doesn’t seem to be taking itself too seriously. The characters seem to have at least some banter with each other that doesn’t feel too forced, although I’m sure there will be darker moments.

One thing I wasn’t too crazy about is that a lot of the areas they showed outdoors looked rather similar. Honestly I kind of expected that it would all largely be the same biome but still would have been nice to see a little more variety. I’m sure we’ll get different biomes in a future campaign or something. At least the indoor areas they showed looked different from each other.

Chief is more action oriented here than sluggish brawler in 5.

The weapon naivety is rubbing me the wrong way.

good meh: boss battles and abilites
bad meh: open world objectives (could be good)

  • seems it’s a nice sandbox (i think it makes a lot of fun) and upgrades for the equipment / Different ways to capture the outposts and good variations of killing the enemys - fear of not much gore and blood / fear of empty open world and cringy/childish lines from the new AI

Good: Large free roam area and sky box (when flying the banshees so high in the air)
Bad: Not a personal fan of the health bar system for the bosses and the way it shows so heavily where your bullets land on your targets and makes them glow.

Good: I like the multiple avenues of tackling objectives
Meh: I’m afraid it might get repetitive in a way. Hopefully there is a plethora of different side objectives.
We can only wait and see.
