I don’t mean I hate his powers and units. I believe they should have been placed elsewhere, though. Perhaps in Isabel’s cycle.
Johnson was a sniper in Halo CE and on Harvest, and a vehicle provider throughout Halos 2 and 3.
I believe it would’ve been a good idea for him to have a focus on outranging the enemy for all infantry, as well as maybe a Troop Transport Warthog? Or better yet, make it so his classic vehicles (Hornet, Tank, Warthog) have the same special effect as some vehicles in Blitz (some Warthogs and Hornets die and spawn infantry upon death).
Maybe it’s a bit too much like Jerome’s transports, but I still believe he could’ve been so much more. Maybe even have some Gunship Pelicans as a special unit.
I don’t know that I agree with some of this. In my opinion in the games and novels he was more of a well rounded marine than any one niche in particular. Also, seeing as he’s dead, so I think his inclusion in HW2 is awesome even while being non-canon. All that to being said it makes sense that has mantises. It would have made sense for Isabel to have them to though, given her lore.

My problem with him having Mantis and Colossus mechs mostly stems from him never having used them. The mech suit he personally drives, I can forgive because he was a Spartan l, but ultimately I think it would’ve fit him better to be a little more like a mashup of Jerome, Cutter and Forge, plus some unique elements. Spawning in SoS units would’ve been neat. Heck, he survived the Flood. Maybe even have him be a leader that can call in Flood that are hostile to everyone would be an interesting thing for him.
I’ll definitely agree him being back in Halo, even if it isn’t canon, was great. There hasn’t been a marine as good as him since Halo 3.
