So, on several YouTube videos, I’ve seen people comment that they heard a rumor that Johnson would be returning in a future Halo game in flashback scenes. Is this true? And where/when did this rumor start? I haven’t found anything else about it.
I kinda hope not. If 343 did that it’d feel like nothing more than pandering.
If it is done right in a way that actually benefits the story and isn’t just blatant fan service. Then I say they should go for it.
Rumours on YouTube is about useful as watching Halo Follower. It’s not.
As long as story wise it makes sense.
I could see scenes where John hears a certain phrase or witness’s a marine being uncommonly heroic and reminds him of Johnson , but I don’t know how they would pull this off unless they break from the players control and go into cut scenes that could be jarring in the middle of missions.
I personally think it would be cool to see him return in flashback scenes. Maybe as a playable character? He is one of my favorites.
No.
I dont need to see Johnson again.

Hey, HaloFollower was helpful to me, at one time. Were it not for HaloFollower, I wouldn’t have known Halo 4 was announced, and I wouldn’t have known a THING about the game.
Now, though, I go straight to the regular sources.
The only way I’d want Sergeant Johnson to come back would be if it wasn’t in the campaign, and was instead a bonus level found in one of the menus, where you play through the events of Breaking Quarantine in the Halo Graphic Novel (Johnson’s escape from the Alpha Halo). This would be a chance for 343 to dip their toes into survival-horror without having to focus an entire game around it.
I’m generally opposed to bringing characters back just for the sake of bringing them back, and for re-telling stories, but I think this one could serve a purpose. And for the players who want to make it insanely difficult, the level could have the difficulties: “Heroic”, “Legendary”, and “Flood Bait”, with Flood Bait using the same AI and balance as Legendary, except that it uses the “Classic” Halo movement mechanics from Halo 2. (no Sprint, Thrusters, etc.)
I don’t think they could get the voice actor.

If you were anywhere in the Halo community or anywhere near the fringes of it, you would have heard about Halo 4 announcement. Then you would google it.

The thing is, I wasn’t. I was 12 when Halo 4 came out, so I didn’t even understand the concept of a video-game related “community”. Used the internet ever since I was 4 years old, but it took me ages to catch on to the idea of a “unified” video-game franchise community on the internet. The only reason I even knew when video games’ release-dates was because of my older brother. Had no idea custom games were ever a big thing, never knew about MLG, didn’t know about Bungie.net or Halo Waypoint, didn’t know Hayabusa was a big deal, or the Vidmaster Challenges, etc. Never knew such a position as “community manager” existed, “community playdates”, etc, until after I stopped watching HaloFollower and went directly to my new-found sources after Halo 4 released.
Personally, I really regret having missed all the fun of Halo 2 and 3’s online communities, even though I played both games on launch-day. (And Halo 3, I played online). I missed a big part of Halo, and when I finally did figure it out and integrate into the community, it’s nearly non-existent.

I have been around in the community since a little after Halo 2 was released. A lot that I remember were people wanting to protest over Bungie introducing Arbiter missions in the campaign and letting people play as Elites in multiplayer, you missed very little in that time. Halo 3 was leagues better and the community was not as toxic (for me atleast) as it was in Halo 2 days and today.
It better not happen.

My thoughts too. Johnson hasn’t done anything really worthy of a flashback. He’s not exactly a deep and meaningful character, he mostly just spouts 1-liners that fit the moment.
Only thing i can think of is his ‘don’t ever let her go’ line in halo 3, but is that really worthy of a flashback? Even if it was, it’d have made more sense in halo 4. I don’t think Johnson imagined cortana would turn into abusive skynet -Yoink!-.
