Settler blows so bad that you literaly die upon spawning.
Its happened to me twice now.
you spawn fall into the abyss and it says suicide.
One good thing i can say for settler, all of a sudden Meltdown doesnt seem so bad.
Never happened to me. I don’t even remember being killed by a DMR on it. LR ad BR own absolutely all on it, and in the flag areas and side corners it’s AR all the way.
What planet are you playing the game on? Planet Daily Mail?
From all the times I’ve played on it the map has been fun. If some moron was DMR’ing me from the top ridge I’d just BR him to death and take his hill.
I think it’s one of the most fun maps to play on.
It’s okay, if the whole team spams DMRs I get really frustrated.
Some people really don’t get these posts. No-one cares if it ever happened to someone else, this post isn’t about that someone else. The fact it has never happened to you is irrelevant to the OP making a point that it does to him.
If it doesn’t happen to you, then great for you, telling the OP that isn’t helping him in anyway.
The DMR is overpowered, that, everyone knows.
The sniper hill is the problem on that map.
I feel your pain.
Thanks
Darknal
It’s an alright map, though the last couple of games I’ve had on it, my team has been severely outclassed.
Could possibly use another vehicle besides the Warthog. Maybe a Ghost?
What’re you guys talking about, ARs, Magnums and frag grenades pwn on settler
First of all this map clearly shows how DMR is too easy to use. DMR bullet spammers are just unstoppable in here.
Second there should be some kind of reward for moving on central part of map, because even when DMR is nerfed, it still would be some kind of suicide for nothing. Placing some Mantis or even Wraith just in the middle should do good (Scorpion is too big and too slow for this map). Some Ghosts should be restored too.
I liked settler until I played CTF on it. Red team took the ridge right away, and with just two guys up there at a time they were able to keep us holed up in our base the entire time. If we’d try to push them off the ridge, it’d be like damn D-day with them picking us off as we tried to get there, and even if we could get two or three people there our shields would be damaged, and they just grendaded and DMR’d us to death. It was just a horrible game and it was impossible to turn it around. I suspect that the people on the ridge may have been in a party, and if that’s what it was then that could’ve just been the problem, but at the moment I’m operating under the assumption that the ridge is over powered.
Oh, and guy above me? I like the concept but a tank will just make things worse.
Take out sniper and replace it with a rocket launcher or spartan laser while each base is given a sniper rifle.
I tried it out yesterday and went 30-1 with my DMR. I think it’s a fun map.

Close to a perfection… Darn…
It seems, at least in my experience, that taking the ridge is paramount. A Railgun spawns up there and gives you a full view of the map. It actually encourages map control and ye who controls the hill has a better chance of winning.
That said, like the OP says, the DMR can dominate up there. Personally, I use the Light Rifle, but the OP does have a point.
What 343 has done to the weapon sandbox with things like the DMR is why classic maps that have always worked in Halo, like blood gulch would never work right in Halo 4.
Imagine Playing Hang 'em High in Halo 4. All it’d be is DMR spamming out doors, and Boltshot spamming in the tight hallways. It would negatively affect the gameplay so significantly, I’d probably never vote that map in Halo 4.

This has has happened to me also on more than one occasion.
The map is terrible. It needs more mongoose.
OK seriously, the DMR is NOT that overpowered. Here’s my last game on Settler: GAME. Note, I went 16-11 USING THE COVENANT CARBINE. The DMR is a utility weapon. It functions well no matter when or where you use it. That’s its function. Every other weapon in Halo is a niche weapon. In other words, they functional superbly in some scenarios and poorly in others. Light RIfle is (mostly) useless on Exile but a beast on Ragnarok. The difference, Ragnarok has long sightlines where you can use the LR scoped, whereas Exile is narrower and so you can’t always use the LR scoped in. the reason people die from the DMR so much is because everyone uses it. It’s just logic. And taking the hill isn’t about spamming DMR. I used the CC and took the hill repeatedly. It was about SMART play strategy. I used a CC, PP, regen field and dexterity to shield strip then plink a guy in the head with the CC, move back into my Regen Field and reset. Rinse and repeat and you get 12 kills with the Carbine. The only reason I died as much as I did was because the other team knew what I knew, taking the hill is necessary. So two or three times I ran up the hill into a cluster of 4-5 enemies and of course I’d die then, but I always took one of them with me and I got almost no help from my team to keep the hill for the first five minutes of the match. After the game, one of the other team’s guys was like “How the hell were you able to get 12 kills with the Carbine?” I used it in one of the niches that the Carbine excels in.
Point is: Settler is NOT a DMR paradise, you just don’t see people using other weapons because they like their “old and familiar.” That’s not a map thing, that’s a player thing.
> OK seriously, the DMR is NOT that overpowered.
It certainly has the most aim assist and bullet magnetism of all of the precision weapons.

And the fastest kill time.
The LR scoped is barely faster but it is way harder to use in comparison to the DMR.
