Settings not saving after deleting cloud saves

Hey guys,

Like many others, I was having trouble getting the “Because you begged” challenge to unlock. However, I managed to unlock it by following this guide posted on reddit:

One thing to mention is the guide doesn’t tell you disable steam cloud saves, which I think is a key factor in getting this to work.

Anyways, while I got the challenge to work, I have a new problem. MCC is not saving my game settings every time I quit. Whenever I reload the game, it acts like I’m starting it up for the first time. As in it doesn’t save my control settings or customization settings. I don’t get why this is happening. I backed up my original saves and replaced them in the main directory after I got the challenge and I re enabled steam cloud saves. Did I just damage my game? Right now I’m validating the steam files, I don’t know if that will work.

Update: Validating the files doesn’t work. And Deleting the folders I overwrote and allowing the game to recreate them didn’t do anything either… Why am I getting this? Right now I’m reinstalling the game. If that doesn’t fix the problem, I don’t know what will.

Update 2: Reinstalling didn’t do anything either. I just noticed my key bindings save, but my customization’s (Armor and Nameplates) don’t save. And every time I start up the game it asks me to choose which control setting I want (Keyboard or Gamepad). Why is this happening? Did I just destroy my game? Some please help me.

Update 3: I seem to have fixed the problem. I restarted steam and now the game is acting normal again. I don’t know why that fixed it but hopefully this is resolved now.

Bump for visibility (maybe?).

This is word for word what happened to me. I saw the reddit post to fix the bugged “Because you begged” challenge, waited for 343i to basically say “yeah this will work if you do it” and followed the steps, which included turning cloud sync from Steam off. Got the challenge done. As per your Update 3, closing Steam completely and then opening it back up seems to be the fix. My guess is the switching the cloud sync option in Steam requires a restart to actually apply back to the game if it was off.

Your updates were much appreciated.
