service tag "arab" is banned?

that seems a little racist… i understand banning stuff like -Yoink!-, COKE, -Yoink- and -Yoink!- but this gives off a messed up impression

Probably because of all the online stereotypes and other problems it causes and that some people will take the -Yoink!- with that Service Tag.

They are just being Politically correct, so no worries. They probably don’t want to offend anyone.

Really? that makes no sense

ˈerəb/
noun
noun: Arab; plural noun: Arabs

  • 1. a member of a Semitic people, originally from the Arabian peninsula and neighboring territories, inhabiting much of the Middle East and North Africa. - 2. an Arabian horse.adjective
    adjective: Arab

  • 1. of or relating to Arabia and the people of Arabia. What is offensive about this?

It should be banned, it’s one of those that’s not immediately derogatory but can be perceived to be.

The people who’d use that tag generally don’t mean well (and probably aren’t arabs either). Sad that that’s the case, and maybe 343i should reconsider on this one since it can easily come out racist. I’m sure 343i mean well, either way.

Right because it’s the actual meaning of words that upset people. “What?? I just called you a bundle of sticks, what’s your problem”?

Who exactly would they be offending?

Percieved by whom? Anything can be percieved to be derogatory.

Not really, just certain words. That’s probably why it’s banned.

i am legit shocked that people can claim the term “arab” is offensive or a negative stereotype because “terrorism”. how insanely ignorant and bigoted do you have to be to think the word "arab"is emotionally charged and a negative thing to the point where you ban it as a service tag? just thinking they are being politically correct by banning it shows just how ignorant you are by associating things like the term arab or the arabic people themselves (many of whom are christian not that it matters) in a “taboo” light. that has to be the absolute dumbest thing i’ve ever heard like a redneck who knew absolutely nothing besides “arabs are bad” was in charge of banning service tags to not offend people.

arabic is a literal language and has nothing to do with terrorism or islam or any of that -Yoink- there are plenty of christian arabs and the fact people in this thread are claiming that “its offensive because terrorism” and “its better to be politically correct by banning the word arab” is literally disgusting on so many levels because it shows just how ignorant with rooted biggotry people are.

best to avoid things that can be seen as racist, discriminatory, or negative. honestly a smart move.

Wow, this thread is literally like walking through a mine field.

Really?..

Wow…That shouldn’t be banned whatsoever…Nothing remotely offensive there unless you’re ignorant

Yup… Don’t know what OP is talking about with terrorism since I have yet to see anyone say it’s banned cause they are all a bunch of terrorists, which of course is incorrect and down right silly, but still looking for where someone actually said that… Nope don’t see it.

Id imagine its to avoid the situation that someone can either abuse the tag or anybody with it. Prevention is better than cure

i don’t understand how anyone could possibly think this.
the banning of the word arab and making it “against the xbox live terms of service” shows that 343i thinks its a derogatory or an emotionally charged term which is super racist and ignorant of 343i.

also for example KURD is not banned because apparently to 343i its not taboo or negative to speak kurdish or be a kurd? but having arab as your service tag is? it literally just wreaks of racism/ignorance and is kinda messed up

this 100%. you’d have to be really ignorant to think thats offensive and apparently 343i does

It shouldn’t be banned. At best it’s an over-reaction by 343i.
