Service Record // Player Customization

Multiplayer will be disabled in legacy games in December 2021… along with player customization (for some Legacy games), and some other aspects such as service records…

What happens to those records? Does it reset or freeze on Waypoint? Will all armor be released and accessible before the close (ex. Halo 3’s Recon armor, Halo: Reach’s Eternal armor effect, or ODST’s Johnson), or will everyone have recruit armor and no ability to switch? As Campaign and some other game services will remain available - some armor settings and statistics (ex. Campaign, Firefight) can overlap.

Wondering if 343 has given any hint or clarification on this. I have read the announcement.

May the Dusk of these OG games cherish us to appreciate them for one more year.

Records will likely freeze as they did when Bungie handed things over to 343 Industries back in 2011. Armor will not be released for everyone. You’ll still have to earn the armor that is still unlockable though there’s no guarantee with how buggy the servers are.

This should serve as a reminder to everyone who may change their gamertag between now and the time that they do get shut off and that want their records still displayed here, to make sure they load up a game and play a match. Otherwise they may not have a chance since some stats are stored on the server and if you can’t access them in game then there’s no way to have them show here.

I really hope this is the case and that they don’t hand out any armor. I’m of the opinion that if you didn’t earn things during the time they were available or that you were simply too late beginning, then it’s just bad luck. Things get discontinued all the time, both in other games and in the real world. It can be a shame, and personally I’ve been disappointed in the past upon realizing that I was either too late or didn’t take the time to earn something, but I just move on from it and try to not miss out on other things in the future. Luckily here people still have a year from the announcement to try their luck and earn what they please!

Furthermore, it also devalues the rarity and stature of these hard to obtain things if they are handed out to everyone. While it may be an unpopular opinion, I truly hope they don’t do this.

This is a good point. I am guessing this means if I change my gamertag after the period of server shutdown, that waypoint would no longer have any stored information for legacy games? I understand the change between Bungie to 343 Industries as the platforms were completely different, but I am curious as to what happens now.

I tried playing an OG 360 Matchmade Reach game but my player customization on Waypoint never updated. My spartan has always been wearing the default noble vi armor. Smh, oh well
