Why are the Halo Servers sooo terrible?!?! It has been like this for a while! Even a friend a of mine who has a Download speed of 50Mbits suffers the same issues. Let’s not even talk about what happens to the network when you gather up with friends. Just what the F is goin going on?!
They were scheduled for maintanance today apparently. Some are still down (file share) and some are back up (online multiplayer).
Servers are only used to match you up with other folks. Then they determine which XBox in your party has the best connection with it, and then it assigns that XBox as your host and hands the game off to it. From there, the servers only collect data from the host XBox about the game.
Ironically, lots of folks argue against having dedicated servers to host the game because if they go down you can’t play, which is true.
But even in the current setup where you’re stuck with P2P networking in which another XBox hosts the game you still can’t play if the servers that match you up are down.
So, they might as well host the dang game to so we can benefit from that.
If the servers are working, and you have people with crummy internet in your party, you’re not going to have a pleasant experience. In P2P networking you’re only as good as the crummiest connected Box in your party.
