I have experienced really bad lag ever since the HCS playlist was added. My NAT is open. My download speed fluctuates between 80 Mbps to 195 Mbps on the tests I run, but is typically always over 100 Mbps. My upload is usually between 23 Mbps and 25 Mbps. My latency is usually between 90-93 ms. 0% packet loss. Every single game of Halo that I play on matchmaking lags. Every single one. It doesn’t matter what search I choose between balanced, focused or expanded. Doesn’t matter if I’m in ranked or social or a custom game. Social actually lags way worse than ranked matches, which I think is strange. People on my team complain about the lag and at the end of the matches, if people from the other team are actually talking, the other team is complaining about the lag as well. It doesn’t seem as if this problem is isolated to only me, or people in my party or people connected to the same network I am. (For example, me with a couple friends over playing online with 3 Xbox one’s hardwired into my router). Things I experience are being shot through walls, not being able to make simple jumps and clamber, shots that are on target not registering as ‘hits’ (literally can be shooting someone in the back 5,6,7,8 times that is not looking at me and shooting at a teammate or running away or even AFK and they don’t die) or zoomed in with a sniper rifle on someone who’s oblivious to where I am, aimed directly at their head, shooting with them not even moving and not getting the kill, people hovering and teleporting, beat downs going through people, beating people down and it not registering (no damage done), grenades not exploding, 1-2 second delay from when I hit the button to throw a grenade until it’s actually thrown in my screen, charging through people and not taking down shields. The movement is crazy. It’s not like someone is strafeing, the are on the left side of my screen one second then the next they are on the completely opposite side of my screen. Sometimes it seems as if things are happening with a 1-2 second delay. For example: I can be looking to an open area and there is no one there. Looking straight ahead, not moving at all. Looking the same area (open field on the rig for instance) then all of a sudden an opponent is there and I’ve been shot 2-3 times already before the opponent who is now directly in front of me even appears on my screen. They didn’t drop from catwalk or boost or come around a corner or come out from bottom nest or have camouflage. They literally appear out of nowhere on my screen directly in front of me where I was focused on looking and have already shot me 2-3 times before I can even see them. Sometimes shot hit me faster than it’s even possible for someone to shoot. I can get hit with 3-4 shots before I can even get one shot off. This issue has been persistent since the release of the new HCS playlist. Even the past few days I’ve had issues with the “Medsage of the day” not loading, my REQs not displaying, not being able to view my friends list & people’s emblems appearing greyed out. I have had other lag issues in the past, but nothing like this, this is ridiculous. I gave my Xbox a static IP address and that didn’t solve the problem. I’ve powered everything down and restarted. I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it. I actually use the disk, not a downloaded version. I play with a wired controller. My question is, what is the deal with the Halo 5 servers? Why is my problem isolated to Halo 5? Is there anything else I can do on my end? Is there something I’m not doing right? I also play Battlefield and Overwatch and I’ve never had lag in either game. I don’t have any problems on the PlayStation Network. Reaching out to Xbox support was worthless, they just directed me to here. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I apologize for the long winded message, but I wanted to be as thorough as I could and give you all the details of mine and others’ experience with this game online over the past couple weeks. I think there are server issues that 343 won’t address, or if hey have, I can’t seem to find it. In this day and age of internet speeds, we should be able tot consistently play online matchmaking with no issues. I don’t ever recall any of the Halo games made by Bungie having this problem online. Just saying. Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Question: Where in the world are you located? From what I’ve seen, that seems to be one of the biggest causes of connection issues in Halo 5,
- Halo 5 could be experiencing server issues. Considering it’s Sunday, maybe they are being tweaked. - If you ever get the black screen. It’s possible you are using one of the VOW announcers. I would suggest using the default announcer to clear up the problem. This is really a support issue. Oh and OP please put paragraphs in and make your post easier to read, reading long posts like this strains my eyes.

Sorry man. I typed it on my phone and submitted it to Xbox support. I just copied and pasted what I sent them.
I am using default announcer, I’ve never changed that. I would buy the tweak thing but it’s been like this every day since they added the HCS playlist.
I couldn’t agree more that it’s a support issue, but Xbox support directed me here.
Any other ideas?

Huh. That seems really strange then. I’m in Columbus, and I haven’t had any issues. Is it possible that your router or modem might be having issues? Only possible reason I can think of right now.

I guess you could try restarting your router. Sometimes that is the problem.
My router and modem are brand new (less than 3 months old). I don’t lease one from the cable company. I have powered down and up. I even reset everything to factory settings and set the router back up. All my speed tests check out as I stated in the original post. Thankfully I don’t believe it’s my router or modem.

Hm. Is your console wired into your router or are you playing on WiFi? Halo 5 tends to not play very well over WiFi. That’s probably the very last thing I can think of, since it doesn’t sound like anything else could be causing it.

I am hard wired directly into my router. I have tried different cat5 and cat6 Ethernet cables. No difference.

Well. I’m stumped. Sorry I couldn’t be of any more help. Hopefully someone who knows better comes across this and is able to figure something out.
I live in Utah, United States I play with some friends here in the same location.
We continually have lag issues whether it be playing together or not.
We’ve occasionally had lag but not as bad as it’s been lately.
You’re not the only one with this issue.
Also, I feel like you’re trying to call out 343 on the lag issue and say Bungie never had this issue.
The Halo 3 servers had issues just like any other game has had it’s own server issues.
