We wonder if 343 will be able to balance out the advantage players have when they are closer to a server location and have a better connection speed. I would be nice to know that what is happening on your screen is real time not like 40ms behind the other team. This becomes very noticeable at range and corners .
Unfortunately, since everyone plays with varying degrees of individual connection quality, it’s very hard to determine what is the “best” methods of maximizing your performance. If anything, minimizing lag should be your top priority. From that point on, your reactions will determine the outcome of gunfights.
This kind of problematic latency is just something will always exist in our age of technology. I’d say hope for some amazing breakthrough within your lifetime.

That would have to be one amazing breakthrough considering internet signals practically travel at the speed of light already (at least on fibre, copper lines ~2/3 of speed of light I believe). Well, thats the short answer, there are other variables too it but distance will always mean latency although how efficiently it is routed can have an affect. Its mostly about quality like package loss, jitter etc where improvements can be made in that sense.
Ultimately, the real breakthrough would be if 343 (like many other developers do) would offer more servers in more geographical locations and/or give us region lock as an option. The netcode of H5 is too poor to handle players from distant locations in the same game.
Very true! Especially in SWAT where all you need is one shot.
Funny that you mention servers we have noticed that when we are doing well in games, winning a lot we seem to get connected to a server
with higher ping, this puts use at a disadvantage against great players . In Particular it feels like our range shot damage gets nurfed into the ground when its simply the connection speed pertaining to the server we are on.
Watching the pros play even pro tournaments have connection problems what gives ?
40ms delay? I’LL TAKE THAT!
I have over 200ms, that is a noticable delay when someone else has 20-40ms… -_-

40ms in Halo 5 ? I would take that, when connecting to a USA hub from the U.K it will be more like 120 ms to 200 ms. In Titanfall 2 I usually connect to a London hub with a 20 ms ping. That’s what Halo needs, regional server selection, even on a bad day I can connect to mainland Europe with a 30 ms to 40 ms connection without major game disruption. The Titanfall, Titanfall 2 and even the Gears 4 servers make mockery of the Halo 5 servers.

Even better. We’re in Europe and we’re playing against Mexicans. On balanced! -_-
Mexico & Brazil squads and magic is happening!
And lately, I have no idea what’s happening with the servers.
It seems most obvious in SWAT. It’s so fun when you get the connection bonus and go 19-4. Not so fun when it’s the opposite. I don’t even get upset about it anymore, I can tell pretty quickly when a match is going to be a throw away match and I’m going to stink it up, and I know eventually I will be unstoppable again when I win the connection lottery.
I’m at 80ms, is that bad? I heard anywhere under 60 is optimal for this game.
If your over 60ms your at at strong disadvantage!! Especially against a good halo gamer, with the skill levels you run into in this game its complete crap that 343 isn’t coming up with a future plan to fix this. it very important to game balance. Look at the teams who think there good online, and they get into a tournament and get destroyed!! You literally can play this game and think your a pro but the only thing you have is a great connection …(Not saying these players are not good), but connect will let you beat players that are way better then you and this happens consistently .
I think with this game anything under 60ms one should do just fine. Or at least decent. But the strange thing is I think 343i said way back when in the EU thread that a 120ms was acceptable. But the question is what do they mean by acceptable??? lol. I don’t know what world they are living in but from a gamer standard it was 30ms and bellow. H5 has a lot of work to go yet to make this game play better for far more players then what it has now. 343i relied way to much on thinking MS servers were all they needed. No way a tripe A game should be in this shape or at this level. They have a lot of work moving forward. Any one that has a lower ping in this game is going to have the advantage. There is no if ands or buts about it!
How does everyone know there ms for Halo? Are you just going by the Xbox multiplayer connection test?? I’m guessing that’s what people mean and getting there information from… or are people doing something else somewhere that I’m not aware of lol If it’s technical, I know networking pretty well so I should understand.

I feel for you, I stopped Halo 5 because of the connection issues. It was not my sole reason for quitting, but it’s definitely the biggest reason.

I’m on days off today and tomorrow. I’m playing Titanfall 2 twenty four two, get it lol. I’ll keep an eye on the in game ping. You can do that by hitting the back button and bringing up the scoreboard. If I see stutters I usually check the ping. Most of the time it’s 25 ms to 40 ms. If I see it over 60 ms, or 120 ms I’ll post back.
I want Halo to have the same feature, it does not stop play either, hit the back button, you get the scoreboard on the right with the ping under it. 343i could learn a great deal from Respawn when it comes to servers for Halo 6.
Edit = I played Titanfall 2 all day yesterday, I never saw the ping above 55 ms. Titanfall 2 is the best when it comes to servers imo.

That’s a standard game for most of Us here

Ah yes… Makes sense. Was having a brain cramp lol Ok, thanks
