Been trying to get back into Halo 5 recently despite all my gripes with it to see if I am giving it a fair shake and, after a couple of arena matches, it still is so easy to remember why I stopped playing. Being shot off of spawns, seeing my enemies spawn in front of me. Dying and spawning on exactly where or only a few meters from where I previously died.
Where’s the fix for this? Overgrowth in Swat is basically unplayable if the enemy team knows the spawns. My friends and I lost 50-12 or something embarrassing because it turned into spawn take two steps, dead, spawn, take 5 steps, dead, spawn, dude comes jumping around the corner, dead and you get the point now. It isn’t competitive or even fun.
How has this game been out for over half a year and it still has these issues that have been complained about since day one? Also what is with the rotations in the hoppers? I still see the same maps 80% of the time and none of the remixed/new maps and hardly any of the newer forge maps for BTB.
I was even wondering why the multi-team playlist only had 3 teams instead of the usual 4 and then my friends and I played it and started the game spawning directly next to one of the other teams. How is this not playtested or caught? How can you put multiteam in without tuning the spawns? Reach had some tiny maps too yet multi-team was great on there! Never felt like I was getting spawn-killed anywhere near as often. Like yes I dislike sprint and I dislike how accurate full auto fire on autos is even out to 30m and probably slightly beyond, but none of that is particularly awful I just think the game would be better off without it. These spawns make me hate Halo 5 competitive almost as much if not more than Halo 4 pre-patch alone and if you any of you knew me back then or remember I was really vocal on how much I hated Halo 4 pre-patch.
SWAT just has bad spawns, period. Haven’t noticed bad spawning in Team Arena or Slayer but I know SWAT is notoriously bad.

I definitely know that Swat makes it worse due to the potential to kill in just one bullet, but I’ve noticed awful spawns in arena as well. As I said I’ve played arena slayer on the map with the furnace on it and died on or next to those outside stairs and the game just spawned me right back up there. Similarly my controller ran out of battery on guillotine and someone killed me. I respawned still trying to get the battery in my controller and when I reconnected I had died again. When I respawned next time I was standing directly on top of my previous dead body.
^^^^what he says, I don’t get to many bad spawns in arena, they happen, but not often. Swat is a whole new level tho cuz if a team gets setup on you you’re going to be spawn killed quite a bit. Unfortunately it’s one of those modes where knowing and predicting the spawns will benefit you. It’s really the only way to counter it cuz you then have to spawn kill them to not give them the chance to spawn kill you again. FFA is another that I have issues with the spawns even tho they decreased the number of players. You get lucky if you get a 1v1 that won’t get interrupted due to someone spawn in the middle of it. Multi team is pure -Yoink-. It’s better suited for btb maps or it needs a dedicated map made for it. The thing about the arena maps is for the most part, they’re exclusively for 4v4 setup (and can work for 2v2 as well) but anything else can be a mess.

This is true, but it sucks because previous Halos didn’t have this problem and in my opinion the maps were still better overall. The versatility was icing on that cake.

But I know this season I had a game where 4 straight SWAT spawns were basically me spawning and getting killed before I event get a chance to move. I had to start Spartan thrusting right as I was spawning.
Sometimes though it is just bad luck.

I agree that it can’t always be perfect, but if bad luck has a hand in it I must have some of the worst luck on the planet lol

Well halo CE spawns are still worse IMO but that’s cuz you spawn on team mates, and I’m sure you know the story: spawn on team mates who are literally in gunfights and you could die right away. Realistically halos never been a good game when it comes to spawns, it’s actually one of the games that overall as a franchise that does an ok job on spawns but it’s not good. that’s just my perspective tho but I do think h5 has it worse than the last few games. There’s so many reasons to h5s spawn issues to me from non dedicated maps to fit a specific mode and 343 just puts it inebriation like “here guys! Enjoy!” To even how the abilities effect the map design. I know people bring up elongated maps due to sprint but personally I feel h5s arena maps are smaller than reach and h4 to where I think that can be an issue as well. I don’t know, it could just be me but I swear h5s maps are smaller even with sprint elongating stuff.

Well I’d say its probably 30% bad luck, 70% spawns need work
Spawn areas need some work. If you time it right, you can snipe an opponent from across the map as he spawns. I was a victim a few times.

A lot of the maps don’t even seem to make use of the low traffic areas to my understanding. You never spawn in the lower area on overgrowth or plaza or any map really it seems. They always seem to throw you somewhere around the outside, making it stupidly easy to predict.
