I’m quite disappointing at 343i for not adding subtitles in Spartan ops cinematic episodes… Come on 343i. i feel like you guys ignorance, no offense.
some of us deaf gamers would like to know what is happening in these episodes, we do have rights to know what they are saying and we paid for playing this game with subtitles on campaign, but not on spartans ops? WHY!? i think that’s bullsh*t.
by the way, im deaf. Please don’t bother me about grammar, thanks.

i understand where you are coming from. my cousin is deaf and weve been playing games together quite a bit lately. although i guess hes lucky cuz hes not interested in halo very much but i had a few pretty big threads about making sure that there were subtitles in the game. i didnt even realize there wernt any for the cutscenes.(im not deaf) but i know how frustrating it can be. but honestly i hope you can find a video on youtube or somthing that has added the subtitles.
Thanks for understanding me about this situation. i would appreciated if THEY can do updating this game by adding subtitle IF POSSIBLE! therefore i still want to be informed if success or not. There have to be other way.
i hope they do fix it. id hate for you and other deaf people to have to go way out of your way just to know whats going on in a major portion of the game
Throughout the campaign subtitles were shown even when in game. This is much more than in previous games. In Halo 3 every time the Gravemind or Cortana talked there would be no subtitles. I am glad at the appearance of more subtitles in this game. But like you I was disappointed at the lack of subtitles for the terminal videos and the Spartan OPs videos. I just like subtitles but no subtitles is a real problem for my friend whom is deaf.
There are subtitles for SpOps. You need to set your Subtitles to “On” in the the Audio and Video options.
The subtitles are shown in yellow at the bottom of your screen.
If you cannot see the subtitles still, it may be that the size of your TV screen may be too small to see them. I have had similar issues with Skyrim whereas I could not see anything at the bottom (Magicka/Stamina bars, vendor gold, my gold). When I got a bigger TV, I was able to see what I could not before.
Just posted in another thread relating to my hearing impairment; luckily, unlike the OP, I’m only half deaf – however, I can only hear some frequencies, some louder than others and others I can’t hear at all. I had to re-do my entire sound system and EQ levels just to play the campaign so I could hear the voice audio within the game – which sucks, I might add; maybe not for people who have good hearing, but for those with impairment it is terrible… in my case, anyway. I fully support implementing subtitles into ALL modes in Halo 4, cut scenes from the campaign and in the aforementioned Spartan Ops.
343, we’re not complaining about your game being laggy, we’re not moaning about the DMR or BR, we’re not crapping on your gameplay. We are just asking you to make the game more friendly for people with sight/hearing impairments. I think that’s very little to ask and most certainly, a valid and VERY fair argument.
Even for people who don’t have a hearing disability it is needed. My Xbox is in my conservatory and my family are in the next room so I can’t have the game too loud, which means at times I can’t hear parts of the cinematic.

yes. but they are not in the cinematic episodes. which is where the important story is at.
But I like subtitles because I can be more relaxed when watching the cinematics then being on guard to catch everything they say when it can be hard to make out sometimesss.
So I like the subtitles because it makes the experience more enjoyable for me.
I was upset they were not included in the episodes but believe me you are not missing out they have low quality dialogue and the 1st one is cringe worthy.
As a hard of hearing gamer I am glad I am not the only one that was disappointed to not see subtitles appear in the Spartan Op cinematics despite being available in the campaign.
Let’s hope 343 patches them in. Probably take what, five minutes to do?
As has been explained, we already have them on… duh.
The subtitles show up everywhere else they’re supposed to: Campaign cinematics, Campaign in-game, Spartan Ops in-game; but not Spartan Ops cinematics, and that is what is being complained about… duh.
I noticed this, and actually checked to see if I had them on when I noticed that they weren’t there, and yes, my subtitles are set to ‘On’, not ‘Automatic’, and certainly not ‘Off’… duh.
And reading through the previous posts to figure out what possible solutions have and haven’t been suggested seems like a pretty big ‘duh’ to me; ok, on the other thread about the Custom Games, which is about 68+ pages, it can be kinda understandable to skip some of them; but this one, and how few pages in we are!? Come on!
Now that that’s out of the way, I wholeheartedly agree that they need to fix this, if it weren’t already obvious. I may not be deaf (yet), but I do like to have the subtitles on to make sure I understand what they’re saying, especially if it’s mission-critical. Plus, sometimes their choice of ‘accent’ and the music and environment noise can make dialogue hard to make out. Remember in Reach, when Jorge’s accent made “ma’am” sound like “mom” and how many fanfic writers went with that?
It may not be a five-minute fix, like VastShadowz41 said, but I believe it’s more of a no-brainer than the weapons and vehicle balancing ‘issues’ people are having.
