🧐 Serious post time. Can they remove F2P at this point?

We have an issue. With this being a free to play game, they thought this monetary system of selling us items will be the saving grace that allows for them to let it be free. This has only allowed multiple issues.

  • High amount of cheaters
  • Cheaters that can just make another free account within 5-10 minutes with no actual repercussions.
  • Exceedingly high costs for every little item they can come up, including colors, emblems, and other items that have not seemingly even gone through testing. (the punk visor that was crooked for example).
  • A very wide disconnect between those who have paid for items, and those who have not.
  • Inability to allow for special items that actually require you to play the game, and do well. Or complete the legendary campaign, find specific items, etc. What the Halo games previously allowed for us to do.

I get that some people have paid exceedingly high amounts for items, and this is what I think would allow for us to disengage ā€˜free to play’, and go back to the paid game.

  1. Anyone who has paid more than $60 for colors, armor pieces, cores, etc. gets the game 100% for free, with the overage refunded in terms of points.
  2. Anyone who has paid less than $60, has the option to pay for the rest of the game, or get a refund back to steam, xbox, whatever (can’t go back to their credit card due to it being past 30 days, this is normal).
  3. Anyone who hasn’t paid anything, is automatically told that within a set amount of time, they will no longer be able to log in. (I’d say 30 days)
  4. Anyone who has spent ANY amount on the items such as charms, emblems, or the HCS specific armor colors, will not have these in the amounts above. They will continue to allow 343i to sell specific cosmetics, as additions, and add ons.
  5. We can continue the battle pass, even charge $20, but the points get fazed out. This ridiculous ā€˜make it points so no one knows how much they are actually spending’ is stupid, and should immediately get taken away. It’s not new, and it’s a trick used by most companies to make you have a disconnect between the cost of an item, and it’s true value in dollars.
  6. All items from this point on in the armors, colors, cores, etc. are now free, or have the ability to be earned via the battle pass. The ā€˜free’ and ā€˜premium’ ones will no longer have the absolutely atrocious ā€˜swap challenge’, and all challenges can be done at the same time. It’s an entire list, aside from the last ā€˜final’ challenge.

Below is a poll to allow for those who agree, or disagree, and make it simple for those who do not wish to explain more than a simple ā€˜yes’ or ā€˜no’.

  • I agree, and I think this will work.
  • I agree, but I will explain my thoughts below.
  • I agree, but do not think this will work.
  • I disagree, and I will explain my thoughts below.
  • I disagree, and this will not work.
  • Other.

I don’t think they can. They could slide in a prime system approach like CSGO did. That’s about it.

You can’t just make a game f2p and then back track when everything starts going wrong.

I’m not even sure if removing f2p would be all that beneficial. You’re increasing the amount of cash you’re paying with the hope, lets be honest ā€œhopeā€, that the content quality gets better.

From what I’ve seen, somethings going on at the studio. Most likely burnout if the recent community update is anything to go on.

All in all, I think it’s best to temper our expectations and play other games in the meantime.

Halo infinite doesn’t have cheaters, it has over 20 million unique players that have built a strong community around social elements of infinite

Oh wait I’m thinking of an alternate timeline where halo infinite doesn’t suck

Lol, as I go to respond to this, my game crashes. I have a $10k computer, and it crashes. Like wut. In any case, the problem is that they NEED to bring it away from this F2P system to fix the plaguing content being so expensive. If they would just have the items like cat ears, pineapple grenades, or little extra items like the charms be what they charged for, it would be fine. But instead, a COLOR is $6. They literally just change the saturation, hue, etc., and charge another $6. If I did that in my company, dear God, everyone would game-end me. So, Idk what to do aside from attempt to bring us away from the F2P model.

I’m no businessman, but maybe if they sold the game as a whole for 60 dollars (like every other halo game ever) they could pay their workers, not on the promise of making money in a broken shop, but for game content that actually exists in the present. All that money, they won’t need contract work anymore. Just full time workers with endless holidays apparently. Good on them in his hypothetical alternate timeline

But in all seriousness what a **** show. And obviously I’m joking above. Halo was successful without contracting work and making the game f2p. 343 knows how to take a formula that already works and **** it all up

I think Bonnie Ross and Co. was told they needed to make a subscription based way to make money, since this is supposed to be a 10 year endeavor. Even though Destiny was shown to be not a viable way to do the 10 year plan, 343i came right behind them and thought that if they just made it F2P, they could still do the same thing. Unfortunately, with everyone being so burnt out of companies constantly in their pocket for the most basic and simple of things, most people will not pay for the long term, and this will just burn out completely. I’m holding out hope due to my love for Halo, but 343i is seriously pushing me to hate it, and that is saying something.

They can’t, they couldn’t the moment the game went live on Dec 8 and people have started spending in the store. A change in business models has usually been made from b2p to f2p and not the other way around anyway.

F2P was a huge mistake in the first place, the game should have launched with the option to either buy the full game or buy only the multiplayer, then sink more resources into making MP sustainable.

Corrections, you wish MS didn’t own Halo. 343 is just a studio which brings together and ejects people as needed. The way 343 is being run is not how a game studio is run. I’ve never heard of contracting people to build your core infrastructure and then letting them go, especially in a live service game.

That’s a fair and accurate assessment

Anything is possible. You can easily over complicate things but there is an easy solution to end this F2P nightmare…they just have to be brave enough to pull the plug and actually do it. It would also mean they have to create a game that actually works as intended and is fit for purpose so that is probably the main stumbling block tbh.

No, it should be. We shouldn’t be paying for their deliberate poor actions of not knowing how the produce a complete game.

343 falsely advertised the game and they should be held accountable for it. They should give what they falsely advertised before the game released, period.

The disrespect they have shown their fans is unbelievable.
