From a person with a MBA and a clue about business:
-
800 MS-points for first 2 months after release. This will allow us adults that understand business (aka want H5 to be better) AND that have decent cash flow to support development AND that love playing the game online in general to get it day one like usual.
-
400 MS-points for months 3-4. This will allow people with a bit less cash (no knock here, most all of us were all poor college students at one time) to jump into the fun while also supporting future Halo games but feeling the bargain that American’s oh so desire these days.
-
4+ months it becomes free. Let’s face it, MOST of the people that have not bought the content at this point are not going to. All respect to those who actually can’t afford $5… but ‘most’ of the people in this group are frankly cheap. Research any market and find something similar. But they need to get these map packs so the people in 1) and 2) get to enjoy the content they purchased for more than a couple days.
I strongly believe this is a great balance to receive the vast majority of your profits while rewarding the people in 1) and 2) for buying content AND making all people more likely to join 1) and 2) in the future b/c they actually get to PLAY what they purchased.
Win - Win - Win
Any /signs on this idea?
It shouldn’t take an MBA to understand that (any reasonable adult should be able to come to that conclusion; it’s a pity they don’t), but I agree.
Did you read/hear somewhere that Microsoft was actually planning on doing this, or is this your speculation?
Well if I know the DLC is going to be free later on then why would I spend money on it in the first place, a lot of players would simply wait for it to become free.
I agree with OP. I want to play what I payed for, and I want to play it with my cheap -Yoink- friends today.
I don’t understand why we can’t just get a permanent DLC playlist. I don’t care if there’s 5 people playing. I’ll be the 6th for a 3v3.
> Well if I know the DLC is going to be free later on then why would I spend money on it in the first place, a lot of players would simply wait for it to become free.
^This exactly.

The early birds will bite, just to have it early. I am one of them.
> Well if I know the DLC is going to be free later on then why would I spend money on it in the first place, a lot of players would simply wait for it to become free.

Your question was answered in the OP, dude.
True, many people would wait. I’m sure though that many other players want content the day it comes out. Who wants to wait two months to save five bucks, or four months to get it for free? I don’t. I’m gonna buy it day one regardless.
As we can see by the replies this solution takes care of all the types of gamers that play. The people that are willing to wait 4 months? All the power to them. Then join in on the new maps and have a blast playing.
The point is, this makes everyone happy (long term) with map variety and price point. Also, and I do not have facts to prove this; 343 would likely make more money this way over the long hall b/c more people would be engaged and happy with the product.
And to the other guy that replied, this has not been announced and is entirely my idea / speculation. I’m sorry if I caused confusion.
Team Slayer and Big Team Slayer have the most people playing at all times. Make a playlist identical to them (Team Slayer, Big Team Slayer) and make it require all DLC. Reward for people who have bought the maps.
Also, have ALL maps on the playlist, not only DLC maps. This way it has good longevity for the people that buy everything and love variety.
This will make all of the points in my above post even stronger. More people will be inclined to join group 1) and 2).
I understand that lack of population is a concern for adding playlists, which is why the most popular modes should be chosen for this.
(I didn’t want to start a new thread for the same topic).
Any other ideas?
The other map packs would have to become free as well, but this makes sense.
I think DLC should see a price drop at 4 months, at 8 months, and yet again at 12 months, with special temporary price drops occurring after that until a new major title is released.
I don’t know if it makes much sense for them to release it free considering the expense they’ve put into it; at least not until a new major Halo title gets released, but then after a new major title is released there’s certainly value in offering those past DLC packages for the previous game at no cost because it’ll help sustain the online population for as long as possible.
I think this makes for a smarter business model then the one you’re suggesting and the one they’re currently using.
Can we keep the “Legendary Edition” setup, so I can pay for it when I buy it?
I am gonna get frosty if I have to pay $60 and still have to shell out “cash” once I get home to play it, but if it is part of the purchase price, then I have mentally built it in. (Sad psychology of the sale, but true in my case.)
