Series 9(?) the Good and Bad

Good

  • CE teleporters fixed. One of the last few hold outs from the gearbox butcher.
  • Reach lighting bloom fix. The difference is huge, much closely resembles legacy even more. Unconfirmed but also seems the colors have been corrected.
  • Overall appreciate the new armors and skins for H2A.
  • Poses are cool, they only way to view someone’s player model outside of gameplay.
  • Overall UI redesign is much nicer. I appreciate the new organization for armor pieces as well as the menu background video. Opens the door to allowing for the sequences from CE, 2, and 3.
  • Skulls for reach and golden moss expanded to more titles. I like collectibles that unify the games.

Bad

  • Reach mod tool delay. Bummer but eventually right?
  • No word on the H4/H2A tools or steam workshop
  • No mention of Linux support or lack of support

Ugly

  • Throwing all the new content into the exchange. Super annoying especially since there is no new content available on the first week. Will take months to get through whatever the hell this is series or not.

So there is no non-fomo content at all? That’s extremely disappointing in that case, I never liked the exchange.
Edit: is it only in the weekly exchange or long term too?

Lots of good stuff too though, I wanna check out those backgrounds later, and skulls for reach is very welcome!

All new content appears to be time gated into the exchange. If you miss a week, most likely will be a while before it rolls back around again. If poses are unlocked on a per game basis instead of for all games, could take half a year to unlock everything.

I don’t quite understand what you mean in this part

I feel sorry for those who are going on holiday anytime soon then lol

What does this mean exactly? I get the sense you’re referring mostly to the campaign here, but I noticed that some multiplayer maps are brighter, and some seem darker. Does this relate to this lighting fix or is it an unintentional/unrelated problem?

MCC Reach suffered from two major visual bugs. The lighting bloom was severely reduced from legacy and the colors were slightly duller. MCC screenshots would appear noticeable darker and objects seemed more matte. The bug would mainly affect the campaign as cutscenes would use bloom to accent scenes, but it is also present on multiplayer maps. Check out the links below for comparisons. Depending on the lighting of the map, some will appear brighter and others might become a little darker.

There are like 20-30 poses to select for your Spartan and Elite for every multiplayer title. I am unsure if when poses are cycled into the exchange if purchasing the pose will grant usage for every game in the collection or of the pose will only apply to a specific title. Will we have to buy the same pose 6 times for every game, or will it be a one and done kinda thing. Someone would probably have to inspect the customization files more closely to confirm.

Thank you greatly for sharing this information and those links. I knew that there was differences between legacy and MCC, but I had no idea that they were being addressed and rectified with this update. I play Reach multiplayer a lot, and it’s highly likely that this is why I’ve noticed a difference since playing after the update. I will watch the Why video later on.

I have to say, this update did add some great changes, one suggestion from the fourm users in particular I’m glad to see, the menu background selector.

I haven’t checked out much but damn does that updated Reach bloom bring me back, it definitely looks much better and closer to the original.
Hopefully we can see a toggle for reach motion blur very soon though.
Also I hope we one day get the audio quality to at least rival the original, it’s fairly better than release but not nearly as crisp as it used to be.

The more skulls in more games are always great additions.

Not a fan of the poses but at least someone likes them.

You’re missing that there are no additional Halo: Online assets added

Personally not a fan of the new UI changes, or more aptly, the choice not to have the old UI as a setting that can be changed to allign with a users preferences.

Its not quite as bad as the changes to Halo 3’s non legacy hands with the ODST Floodfight update (something that broke all the preexisting armor), but it is relatively unintuitive and kind of messy to navigate. Optimally it should have retained the old layout with the new season by season orginization, and not erroneously refer to freely unlocked items as “built-in” as it currently does.

You can’t call it a Series. A series is an X amount of tiers where each item is worth 1 Spartan point. A series can be 50 tiers, 75 tiers, 100 tiers, etc.

This is not a series. This is a bunch of items being locked behind the exchange and being overcharged. It’s all part of a scheme to force microtransactions in a future update for MCC.

What about the CE teleporters was fixed?

The re-entry distance was incorrectly set to 0.5 world units, when it should have been 1 world unit. It’s been that way since the MCC launched back in 2014 until now.
