Sequel Idea (Wars & Flood Included)

Set it in the year 2534 (maybe later depending on character development), aboard the Spirit of Fire. Serina wakes up a lone/team of ODST(s). She’d shut down many of the ships sectors during their long trip back to Earth, but now those sectors are no longer under her control and even worse members of the crew cant be found.

Just 1 flood spore is said to be dangerous enough to destroy a planet. So what could one do to a UNSC Colony Ship.

Halo 3 ODST has one giant map with flash backs. A UNSC ship would be a great giant map, and if we are to keep flash backs, they would be great to see the final moments of crew members.

With a greater focus on stealth. You are a freashly woken ODST, Tasked by Serina to enter the darker pasrt of the ship. Reactive systems, find crew members, explore, and report back on the problems. You end up facing on of the worst horrors in Halo. The Flood. Using smart forward thinking to combat the flood, using what little you are given.

It would be a Halo horror and carry a heavier theme than previous Halo’s, including the original ODST. Also would be far more mature in themes and gameplay.

It wouldn’t be bad to have a Spartan mode after the game is completed, feature MkIV Spartan II’s, giving you more ammo and faster speed but far more enemies to combat.

I like this idea. it’d be interesting to see how the player responds to the Flood as an ODST, as ODST’s are not impervious to the Flood like Chief.

Thanks, and I agree. It’s one of the reasons this idea was different enough for me to post. In the trilogy the Flood never really lives up to it’s true horror and overwhelming potential.

I really liked how well it tied together what are currently missing elements/games/stories. By putting us back in the role of an ODST, showing us the fate of the Spirit of Fire and further exploring the Flood as an enemy.

(I’ve noticed errors and unfinished thoughts in my original post. I’ll fix shortly for the odd soul that passes by)

This idea is amazing! Not only would it be really fun, it would also fit in very well with the Halo universe. It would be awesome to see more of the darker side of things, which is something ODST stepped its toes into, but could have gone all the way. Not to mention that we’d be continuing the story set up in Halo Wars, which would make many people (myself included) quite happy!

It would also fit the sneakiness of ODST as well, since you’d be crawling around the ship, trying to stay as hidden as possible, which is something I absolutely adored about ODST.

Thanks, and exactly. I’m glad I@m not the only one

I would enjoy playing this or even just watching it as some type of waypoint vid/story. Great idea OP

its sounds like an interesting idea, but if the game was only set on the ship, id imagine it would be extremely linaer, as i can’t imagine large spaces on a ship this is the only problem i have with your concept.

Chief is not impervious to the flood, in the halo the flood you learn he almost was infected if it wasn’t Cortana aiding him.

The only known character to be impervious to flood infect was Johnson, as his dna was messed up so much because of his augmention. Other spartan 1s may also have this ability

I really like your idea. It adds a suspenseful/horror type style which sounds great.

Larger spaces would be harder to come by, but not impossible. Vehicle/space craft docks/holds would be quite large, but yeah far smaller than spaces seen in previous games. I wouldn’t want it to become a straight corridor shooter, but rather have a large space with gang ways, pipes and vents to circumvent combat and mess halls, and even living/recreational areas to give some space.

Besides that I was thinking a general hub, similar to that of the ODST city being set as the for most of the game. With the Cryo-tubes, Bridge, lit areas and darken areas making up the bulk of that giant area/ship for you to explore and navigate round as you wish. effectively being able to bypass areas if you deem them too infested, or if you find a more interesting route. Then have NEW area that open effectively forming one time levels that close off after completion to provide new stuff to see and experience.

In short it would be very different from a standard halo game, but if any game can eskew the halo formula openly, and any ODST fan will tell you, ODST should be that game. It’s the small details and darker theme where this kind of game would shine. The game doesn’t have to be any smaller than the previous ODST game if done right. It would just have to be an open plan ship XD.

Thanks for your input though

I would love this idea! You just have to overcome one minor plot hole though (probably an easy one to explain away):

Why doesn’t Serina just unthaw those Spartans instead of the ODST’s?
