Currently, you can only go so far in rank if you play by yourself. Eventually you reach a rank where you repeatedly face teams and lose. You will occasionally get put into a match without any teams and dominate other players in the current rank but the losses due to teams keeps you locked in the current rank. In order to efficiently rank up, you need to find teammates.
In the perspective of teams, you have multiple easy matches where you win by a landslide against single players, and then occasionally get matched up against another team.
I want there to be a arena playlist with a max party size of one. You get put into teams like normal but now it is an even playing field. Eventually you will get to a rank where other players are at a similar skill level, and from their you can enjoy and improve your own skill level efficiently. You will no longer be trapped in a rank where you are more skilled than others with a similar rank but trapped because of losses due to teams.
Then there should be a playlist for teams. A minimum party size of 2 or 4 required (not 3). There will be guaranteed competition for teams because they will no longer deal with single players.
If you need teammates, find the correct ranking for yourself in the singles playlist, invite those players, and then play in the team playlist.
My hypothesis is that this system is perfect for fair matches and developing skills.
The team playlist will most definitely be the most challenging, with the top ranks being held by tournament winners.
Normally, in any playlist, it is easy to get the highest rank, as long as you have sufficient skills and play in a team. With my idea of two separate playlists, it will be difficult to get the highest rank in the singles playlist, and VERY DIFFICULT to reach the highest rank in the team playlist.
From the Halo 5 beta I had this exact experience. I played by myself and found my self trapped in onyx. I got a bunch of friends from any matches where I found a similarly skilled player.
I started playing with them and I made it to the high end of semipro just a few wins away from pro.
I one day decided to play by myself and fell down to the lowest tier of semipro (around 1500). Once I got back with the teammates, I started winning.
I don’t like this. If I want to play by myself, I want there to be a way I can have fair matches, and also find new players at a similar skill level. Then if I decide to play in the team playlist, I will have a bunch of similarly skilled players on the friends list to play with.
