Seperate Ranked Playlist For Teams and Lone Wolfs

Currently, you can only go so far in rank if you play by yourself. Eventually you reach a rank where you repeatedly face teams and lose. You will occasionally get put into a match without any teams and dominate other players in the current rank but the losses due to teams keeps you locked in the current rank. In order to efficiently rank up, you need to find teammates.

In the perspective of teams, you have multiple easy matches where you win by a landslide against single players, and then occasionally get matched up against another team.

I want there to be a arena playlist with a max party size of one. You get put into teams like normal but now it is an even playing field. Eventually you will get to a rank where other players are at a similar skill level, and from their you can enjoy and improve your own skill level efficiently. You will no longer be trapped in a rank where you are more skilled than others with a similar rank but trapped because of losses due to teams.

Then there should be a playlist for teams. A minimum party size of 2 or 4 required (not 3). There will be guaranteed competition for teams because they will no longer deal with single players.

If you need teammates, find the correct ranking for yourself in the singles playlist, invite those players, and then play in the team playlist.

My hypothesis is that this system is perfect for fair matches and developing skills.

The team playlist will most definitely be the most challenging, with the top ranks being held by tournament winners.

Normally, in any playlist, it is easy to get the highest rank, as long as you have sufficient skills and play in a team. With my idea of two separate playlists, it will be difficult to get the highest rank in the singles playlist, and VERY DIFFICULT to reach the highest rank in the team playlist.

From the Halo 5 beta I had this exact experience. I played by myself and found my self trapped in onyx. I got a bunch of friends from any matches where I found a similarly skilled player.

I started playing with them and I made it to the high end of semipro just a few wins away from pro.

I one day decided to play by myself and fell down to the lowest tier of semipro (around 1500). Once I got back with the teammates, I started winning.

I don’t like this. If I want to play by myself, I want there to be a way I can have fair matches, and also find new players at a similar skill level. Then if I decide to play in the team playlist, I will have a bunch of similarly skilled players on the friends list to play with.

Play FFA

But FFA is not a team game. I am talking about team slayer, capture the flag, and all 4 v 4 gametypes.

But FFA is not a team game. I am talking about 4v4 gametypes.

I would be happy with a single playlist that has a combination of Slayer and Objective gametypes but can only be searched in without a party. That would be an awesome way to give the solo searchers a break, but any more than one playlist would be overdoing it.

Before anyone [else] says it, Free For All is not the same, and you damn well know it.

  1. If there was a single player playlist for every party based playlist, there would be way too many playlists.
  2. In one of these games, if one team decides to all put their mics on and your team does not, you are stuck in the same situation all over again.
  3. You can’t really expect to get a very high rank without actual teammates. It is a heavy teamwork oriented game.

I can agree with 1.
But I am only asking for two separate playlists for arena (the main competitive playlist).

  1. At a high enough rank, everyone would be using mics.

  2. At a high enough rank, everyone would be familiar with teamwork. If Ogre 2, strongside, Snipedown and ghostayame got matched up randomly, you don’t think they would have teamwork? Of course they would.
Sure, no random team will have teamwork at the level of an established team. But teamwork is an INDIVIDUAL SKILL and a combination with other players becomes an emergent property.

Also, I am going to give a little bit of anecdotal evidence. In H3, I got a 50 in team slayer by myself. It took me awhile. (In a team it would take a month maybe). In MLG I got to 49 by my self. That took me the entire life of H3 to achieve.
So it is possible. But it becomes a senseless obstacle to find teammates. I had the skill necessary to achieve a 50 and 49, but there was an irritating obstacle. I was constantly losing to teams of 4.

This is actually a very good idea, I would really like a playlist for lone wolfs, kinda tired of always seeing only teams on playlists.

No no no! We can’t have twice the amount of playlists, they’ll get completely watered out and hard to find games in.

I don’t know how many times I have to say this, but here goes: Back in Halo 3 this was a non-issue. I could get my 50 playing either alone or with a pre-made team. How? Well, the matchmaking system didn’t match players of 1 or 2 against teams of 3 and 4.

Problem solved. It was done a decade ago, and you all played it. It worked. How can people not remember this?

Ok that does make sense if teams only get matched with teams.

But if teams get matched with single players for faster matchmaking, then I would rather have separate playlists. And I only want it for the arena 4v4 so it wont water down the entire population. The system in the beta and MCC is bad for lone wolfs but also bad for teams since they have to play a bunch of easy matches.

this actually happend in reach if i rememeber correctly that or GoW it was a blast but it didnt stay it was only in for a limited time (like what they do now with MCC where they bring a playlist then swap it out) the idea should be incoperated with H5:G though!
