Sentinel Beam or Focus Rifle

If either the Focus Rifle or the Sentinel Beam were to return, which one would you want back? I felt these two weapons were overall fun to use and really emphasized the alien feeling that Halo has.

For me, I really liked the Focus Rifle from Halo Reach. It was a fun weapon to use and it sounded powerful. Plus, it kind of made me feel like a Ghostbuster. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, what improvements or downgrades would you want to see done to the weapon you chose?

Edit: Actually, I would also like to see the sentinel beam return if it was given some improvements. The improvements don’t necessarily have to be performance based either. If they made it sound powerful and made the beam look amazing with some next gen graphics, then that would be awesome!

I’d much prefer the Sentinel Beam. The Focus Rifle never interested me. Although, if the Focus Rifle were to return, 343i might revert their horrible changes to the Beam Rifle’s design… :'D

Why not both? While both beam weapons they have different roles.

While I like both, I’d say sentinel beam. The forerunner armory lacks truely unique mechanics, everything is mostly graphically pretty version of what exists. Beam weapons would give them something different.

I would also like both weapons to come back as well. However, even though used differently, I think the two weapons are still too similar to be put in. It appears that 343i is going on route where each weapon is very unique and contains its very own special role.

As for what you said about the Sentinel Beam, I agree. It would give the Forerunner armory an edge over the other armories.

focus rifle
sentinel beam was pretty lame
focus rifle could use a buff though

Both. But emphasize on the power of the sentinel beam.

Meh who cares. Every UNSC weapon shoots bullets. Having 2 weapons that shoot beams, but have completely different roles is still unique.

Probably the focus rifle. I thought it was an alright gun. It worked better than the sentinel beam in my opinion.

It didn’t really work better, but at least it was in Matchmaking. I don’t understand why Bungie decided to eliminate so many guns out of Matchmaking in Halo 3. I only ever saw the Sentinel Beam in a Forge map and the Fuel Rod Gun never made it in for seemingly no reason. Plus there’s the removal of half the equipment in the game. Plus the Covenant Carbine.

That makes sense, seeing how the sentinel beam has no scope. It should be a little more powerful. The guy with the focus rifle shouldn’t win unless he is being more accurate up close. Can’t remember, but I think the Sentinel beam had no cool down feature. If it did have one, it should be shorter than the Focus Rifle.

I’d like them both back but I’ve got some radical changes in mind to their function and place in the Sandbox.

I’d like to see the Sentinel Beam become an enemy weakener. It’d be a load out secondary who’s purpose is to weaken the target before the player switches to their medium range rifle and finishes the job. Kinda like a Forerunner equivalent to the PP but it’ll actually be used in others places other than big maps to EMP vehicles.

I’d also like to see the Focus rifle have a shortened range and given an EMP effect that takes effect after a few seconds of hitting a target. If we start introducing power weapons with EMP effects 343 will be able to bring the PP back to it’s CE iteration which will pretty much solve any problems that it has in load outs.

I prefer the Sentinel Beam.

New Weapon… Hardlight Beam

This would be a “counterpart” to the Plasma Launcher and Spartan Laser… a charged based special weapon. (There are a few sections… on mechanics, appearance, HUD… about four I believe)

Focus Rifle was better. It was pretty useful, being effective at both close range and long range thanks to the scope, and it was pretty fun to shoot.

The Sentinel Beam… well, it was so underpowered in Halo 2 there was no real point in picking it up, and it was so overpowered in Halo 3 that we never got to use it in multiplayer. Rather boring weapon, anyway…

I found it to be really effective against the flood. Especially in Halo 2 with the sentinel beams dropped by the gold majors.

Maybe we could get the sentinel beams from the Onyx sentinels. That would be cool… and probably way overpowered.

I don’t believe we should be voting on a new Promethean weapon with… weapons not even within the same faction.

The Focus Rifle is a reversed-engineered from Forerunner technology but at its core is Covenant plasma beam.

The Sentinel Beam is a hardlight weapon which could be the next apparition of the turret… Halo 4 Focus Turret… clue?

But in-terms of a Promethean weapon it needs to be something entirely different in design, mechanics, appearance, HUD… etc.

I did the same thing! Cutting swathes across infection forms like no other weapon!

The focus rifle was an odd sniper weapon. It’s not really a proper sniper, either! Of the two, I would rather have the sentinel beam return, but both would be welcome. The sentinel beam should be more of a forerunner SAW. Powerful, continuous, and capable of weakening a large assaulting force. Changing the visual identity of it into something akin to the new forerunner weapon sandbox would be a welcome change, too!

Focus Rifle because you’ll get your Sentinel Beam in H2 remake.

> Focus Rifle because you’ll get your Sentinel Beam in H2 remake.

Which means they will already have the model made for it

Sentinel Beam.

Have the Halo 3 Sentinel Beam, and you’re good.

Focus Rifle wanted to be things it can’t be. It wanted to be a sniper rifle and a Sentinel Beam. But it can’t be. To make it both of those, you have to increase the power of the Focus Rifle (to waaay better than the piece of Yoink it was in Reach). But when you increase the power, while it is indeed both, it’s too good. A Sentinel Beam that destroys at all ranges? No thank you.

The Sentinel Beam can do good at close/mid-range, without destroying at long range also. It’s better, it know’s what it wants to be, and it can be what it wants to be in a very balanced manner.
