Sentinel Beam and boss kills

Was just thinking about the sentinel beam and how it functions in relation to stealing/ensuring boss kills in warzone. So the whole time the beam is on a target, it is dealing damage, as opposed to projectile weapons that have a split second (however quick) between bullets hitting… even fast paced weapons like The Answer. So theoretically, if u have the sentinel beam on a boss when its health expires, shouldn’t you/your team always score the boss kill???

Now this might be hard to actually time between overheats, but if you have both teams laying down massive fire power, I would think it would be a great tactic to have someone on your team laying down the beam right as the boss is about to die. Don’t think I’ve seen anyone really ever do this, but it could help your team ensure they get the legendary/mythics. Thoughts???

Depends on how much damage the beam does. We know it doesn’t do a ton of damage on anything that isn’t a vehicle, so the boss already has to be practically at 0 health before you lay into with it a Sentinel Beam. By that time in a game, though, you’re likely trying to compete with all manner of heavy weapon/vehicle for that boss kill. With that in mind, it would truly be a lucky shot to steal a boss kill with a Sentinel Beam.

Though the sentinel beam applies a constant damage, it is still dependent on who does the last 0,01% of the damage and ‘kills’ the boss. I tend to pull out a power house of a REQ, to snag the kill, ensuring credit towards my commendation.

While I can see how one could think that but it’s pretty weak weapon so some one could easily place a well timed tank shot or use a sniper rifle (especially hitting a weak spot) and get the kill. I have always said if you want those boss kills to count for commendations use a tank. Well timed tank shots just before their dead is the best way to get the actual kill.

This weapon is OP on Warden eternals if you can get their back to you. I personally love it.

I know it’s not the best weapon to use practically speaking. I’m thinking theoretically. For instance, it’s doing constant damage right? So say it’s doing damage while a tank shot from the enemy team hits the boss and at that point the boss dies…what team would the game award the kill to?

The tank would be awarded the kill since it landed the kill shot. The only way the Sentinel Beam would get that kill would be if the tank left just a tiny, unnoticeable sliver of health that the beam could finish off for the kill.

Interesting concept.

Have you ever tried it?

It’s not technically constant, it just has a fire rate designed to make it look that way. Essentially, the time between “shots” is minimal, but it still exists. So, at a given point in time, such as the moment a tank shell strikes the boss, X amount of damage is going to be subtracted from the target’s health. It the amount of damage done exceeds the amount of health left, then that shot is considered the killing shot. So if you are using the beam, in order to register the kill, you would need to be the one, in a specific time interval, to do damage greater than or equal to the target’s remaining health. In order to get the kill, then, you would have to be firing on a target that was reduced to nearly zero, due to the low damage of the sentinel beam, in the time immediately preceding your shot interval. But if, say, a tank shoots the target, and his shot is enough to bring the target’s remaining health to zero, then it doesn’t matter if someone else is firing on the target, since you can’t do more damage to a target, once a target’s health is reduced to zero. Your point of advantage, with the sentinel beam, would be when there are only one or two heavy vehicles on the field, and they reduce the target’s health to near-zero, since the beam’s rate of fire is far faster than the standard loadout weapons and req’s the other players would be using.
