“It’s a game where you play as a cybernetically enhanced super soldier in a fight between humans and aliens.”
“Please. Tell me more.”
“Well you’ve got this state of the art power armour with shields and performance boosting capabilities. You can use futuristic weapons and vehicles and there’s a whole arsenal of alien weaponry. The multiplayer has loads of gametypes.”
“Wow that sounds good. So you mean you can run really fast and like leap over massive walls and stuff?”
“Well no, you mostly travel at walking speed and if you want to jump any real distance you need to crouch down first.”
“Oh… so you have to use vehicles a lot or something?”
“Err, no generally there aren’t any.”
“But all those alien weapons and futuristic gunplay. That sounds fun.”
“Well to be honest it’s mostly just using a burst rifle whilst everyone stands around on opposite ends of the map swaying from side to side.”
“So… you’re all using exactly the same weapon and doing exactly the same thing? Doesn’t that get kind of… samey?”
“Err… yeah, but you can choose what colour your armour is.”

Well seeing as counter strike has a population of around 300k and it has no sprint or any other “modern” features. Oh and if you manage to just get the older community from halo 3 back. Which had a population count of 300k for a very long time we don’t technically need that “new” player. And he can either cope with the older mechanics or play something else. Why should games always have to cater to everyone anyways. Just give the original community what they want and others will follow

Counter Strike is a flawed argument. The number of PC games has and always will outnumber console. Plus, Counter strike is more accessible to the general public. As for Halo 3, if it was as good as you say, it’s population would never have gone down to lower than 9k back during Reach’s lifetime, which it did.

Last I checked before mcc it still had a population of 5k. Pretty impressive for a 7 year old game. I was still playing it with that small community. And it only dropped because reach was a decent game and the competitive community moved to it

You think COUNTER STRIKE is an easier game to get into than HALO? Oh that is rich.
Competitive CS makes Halo look like freaking build a blocks.
To be honest I’m surprised at the level of hostility I’m receiving here (I’m also surprised that I am surprised given what I know this forum to be like). This was a joke about how Halo offers a huge amount of varied content but previous games have become solely about one weapon and one tactic and everything else is just so much set dressing.
If you tried to sell the game to a new player it would sound utterly ridiculous.

No, it was clearly a joke at the expense of fans who dare to want to have a good Halo game not loaded down with CoD -Yoink-.
Well depends, you can always tell that player to go back in time, play Halo in the early 2000’s and not play any other shooter that came out after it so that he is filled with nostalgia and doesn’t know what he is missing elsewhere.
I love me some cs. Second favorite franchise for competitive fps. Halo is first currently but I don’t think that is lasting longer since I only think 2 through reach were competitive.

There is room for both. Modern gamers have cod and battlefield. We can have counter strike and halo for classic

So… a game having more than one usable gun and being conducted at more than 4 miles per hour is exclusive to Call of Duty?
Look the point is 343 want to make money. I used to play CE and 2 with dozens of friends back in the day however we are no longer teenagers and I can count on one hand how many of those same people got the MCC or are remotely interested in Halo 5. I’m sure many people can say the same thing. Therefore they want to attract new players and when new players have been exposed to ‘COD Yoink’ and ‘Battlefield Boink’ a game where you have the mobility of an arthritic pensioner (despite being a super solider) and can only really use one weapon (despite all the crazy futuristic weapons) is going to look entirely bizarre. Hence Halo 5 has evolved…

No no no no no
Every shooter has to play EXACTLY THE SAME. That is what makes gaming unique and fun. When everything plays EXACTLY the same.
Funny how that works with literally no other freaking hobby.
