Seems like the internal turmoil at 343I was true

For context, 343 only had about 3 years to work on the game. Not 6. They were working on a Halo 6 around the release of 5 but scrapped it about 3 years later because of the backlash Halo 5 received. So that’s the reason why lot of the stuff like co-op or forge didn’t make it into launch.

Looks like they wanted to get started working on the next game early only for it to blow in their faces because of 5.

Take this as you will.

I really want to see that scraped project

I’ve been patient for 6 years, and they had 6 years and $500 million dollars.

The competition this year wasn’t exactly stiff lol. Battlefield 2042 is a disaster and a failure, Vanguard isn’t anything special, and what else actually came out this last year? Cyberpunk? Also a disaster. Mass Effect Legendary Edition? Yay, a slightly censored rehash of existing stuff!

I’m terrified the desync is linked to older xboxs, and cant be fixed without a huge delay.
If that’s true, 343 will lose almost their entire playerbase.

Surely that can’t be right. Isn’t Campaign a separate beast to Forge and Multiplayer? Why would they can progress made on the mechanics and foundations of the game?

I am sure Bonnie Ross did mention they had considered doing a smaller Halo 5.5 but decided against that. Judging by the concept art that seems to have been the case.

TBH I am just bitter about that. Wanted a sequel for six years and I do not believe that addressing Halo 5 would prevent you involving the Banished or Endless in the story. I mean one of them literally isn’t in the game anyway.

It’s a terrible decision. It undoes all the setup they had meaning they have to build things up from scratch again. That’s been replaced by some very lacklustre factions and a pretty cookie cutter story. Plus, what does that tell me about them as story tellers?. Very Rise of Skywalker.

If someone thinks Infinite is anywhere close to 10 worst games of all time they must be new to gaming lol.

I remember playing a demo of a game called Two Worlds long long ago… I’m old so I recall horrendous games is what I’m getting at here.

Of course that was the deciding factor. Unreal Engine is far more common/popular, so its easier to hire new devs and easier to churn out content I imagine, only real reason a dev would turn away from a popular and common method of doing things is if they need a special way of doing it.

All of this is just a bit much. Unreal Engine was popular many many years ago. Why do you think Bungie didn’t switch over to UE if it were so good at making Halo games? Why didn’t 343i do it with Halo 4? Your argument is just based on unlikely premises. This would be like saying that a Gears of War game (which are made using UE btw) could work better if they were made using Frostbite or some other entirely different engine, if only it were so easy.

They stated directly that coop was slated to be there at launch and was going to be the focus of campaign gameplay. It’s not there along with forge. It’s a pretty good explaination as to why things seem bare bones.

Well, I thought the campaign was solid, save for the open world shtick. Missions seemed too short and not really what I was expecting out of a Halo title.

More of a diehard linear mission guy. At least when it comes to games like Halo. I like Chief’s character arc, too.

Well it is a Halo game so I am going to enjoy it on that level. Zipping around listening to the Conservatory theme is amazing. I liked the Open World. In terms of a drama in which the Chief is grieving over losing Cortana and is haunted by this new AI; pretty much perfect if that’s what you insist on going for.

But:

  • It’s bad practice to retcon a major story arc and character.
  • How they do that is extremely hand waving and non sensical. Cortana is in the Domain, not Zeta Halo; she can’t be locked down.
  • I am not convinced killing Cortana off is better than going for the ultimate win. Getting given the Weapon doesn’t translate into that. She’s just another AI voiced by Jen Taylor.
  • I felt like with the Created story you could tell a much grander story in which the fate of the galaxy was directly at stake. Instead of chasing Forerunner McGuffins in the middle of nowhere.
  • Cortana as the villain probably meant they were going towards the Logic Plague. They can still do that with Offensive Bias; but I don’t care about killing Offensive Bias, or Esharum or Atriox. They’re just monsters.
  • I like to know what my villains motives are after two games.
  • I like having more than one enemy faction in a Halo game.
  • Given the amount of content in the likes of Assassins Creed I don’t consider it reasonable that this is the best they could do with the Open World.
  • I think it’s cringe how Atriox and the Banished are depicted as a Galaxy conquering army who could destroy the Infinity and beat Cortana.
  • It’s a very small game and we’re left with very little to discuss at the end of it. I never felt like the fate of the galaxy was at stake and felt like this was a very small conflict with no real consequences. The game insists it does matter but it really doesn’t.

I believe Halo 4 had something going, but seriously wtf is Halo 5.
Everytime I replay Halo 4, I just go like “this really isn’t that bad, how the hell did Halo 5 happen”

I blame the entirety of the scrapping on Halo 5.

In my OPINION the “ Reclaimer saga “ was and would of been top tier over the OG Trilogy.

It actually expanded the Halo Universe and gave us a chance to learn chief through the games vs reading the books, which if you haven’t read the books, do yourself a favor and read them or listen to on audiobook, QUALITY CONTENT right there lol

For real, Halo 4 in my opinion is the best in depth personal story for any game, not just Halo.

Aside from the anticlimatic duel with Ironman at the end, as well as those BLOODY PROMETHEAN WATCHERS, H4 is enjoyable.
The AR in that game is just how I like my AR, strong in close to mid, can hold its own, ol’ reliable.

The watchers really had me take a break on legendary my first run lol had to set the controller down and go to the gym ; They were like, “ Ooh, You killed that Promethean knight?? Lol no you didn’t, he’s right there “ * Teleporting charging Knight * proceeds to body me lol

The AR was balanced in my opinion, rarely needed to use any other weapon in MP, aside the BR if going long distant fight.

The AR was CRISP

hard disagree with who think h5 campaign is better than infinites. 5 scrapped everything h4 did. it had potential and the created arc was never intresting anyway.
The reclaimer saga had peotential but h5 with its well campaign just deleted anyting related to potential

It wasn’t a new engine, its the same BLAM! that Bungie made 20+ years ago. Its just that Bungie had developers with passion while 343 has contractors who work for the lowest bidder.

For an example of a good retooling look at Modern Warfare 2019, Infinity Ward took the classic Unreal 2 engine and made the best looking and performing game in history with an engine about as old as BLAM!

If you’re looking for a real team of dev’s who can make engines, look no further than Id: they created the Tech 666 engine for DOOM 2016 and while beautiful and uber optimized, they further improved on it to the point that the sequel looks even better and can get hundreds of frames on even the highest graphic settings on higher end machines.

So, no 343 did not “create an engine” all they did was keep upgrading it and devolving it into a massive heap of spaghetti code with no hope in fixing it.

My god 4 forums and here we are still needing to teach ya a thing or two. Now I gotta ask do you believe everything you read on the internet or are you pulling most of these statements from the magical hat of durrr.

Microsoft doesnt own the rights to ue5 mainly ubisoft does and in order to use that game engine it has to be licensed out for use. Microsoft isnt going to do that as the company already has their own game engine. Plus halo devs have their own specific engines as well from bungie having 1 and now 343 failures having the other

Isn’t it owned by Epic Games, not Ubisoft?

I’m so glad we’re to the point we can finally admit infinites campaign is HORRIBLE! I felt so idiotic thinking it was bad and seeing people claim it’s the best halo campaign, heck even saying it’s one of the best video game campaigns. Crazy what nostalgia will do to people

Its won awards for its technology not so much for its gameplay plus these days critics are soft. They fail to properly play the game with their easy modes the devs put in specifically for them. Not to mention how many CEOs and bigwigs pay them more to talk better about the game or go off the pre written scripts. You want the real critic score go to rotten tomatoes or find the proper fan polls. Quit listening to line my pocket more and start listening to why people say it sucks. Keep in mind you’re in the presence of a ton of halo players. While these are your feelings the dropping numbers dont lie. Old halo fans hate that this game is f2p for a few different reasons. I’d say a rather decent one being that f2p leads to a slower timelapse with this game. Now they had a 500mil budget they need to make that back and they figured the best way was the f2p model so many games are taking but failed to realize that doesnt work so well in these high budget games. The store has been over priced. Even if they say more is coming it’s a trickle and a far cry from the first game they worked on with bungie ya know halo reach that game everyone keeps comparing them to. Yeah that was because they had input on that game and went a full 180 from it in 11 years like absolutely not cool. They monetized the only unlockable in the game and that was at least a 3rd of the replayability.

And lastly while you may not be experiencing it, a lot of players are having severe matchmaking issues. Some dealing with the lobbies being crap just so your in an even skill lobby but have horrible connection ping. Some are having such hard problems they’re desync-ing mid match and getting a ban for it (this could be the gaslighting issue 343 is going on about with geo filtering but I think it has to do with where these folks are connecting to stay in even skilled matches)

Then you have the launch expectations. Every game has launched with a complete multiplayer experience a full story with replayable missions and a coop campaign to couch game with your buddies. These are fair to expect since they’ve been with EVERY game to say any less is dismissive of the issue and proves your part of the problem not the solution.
