I find it disappointing that in Arena, there has become a “dumbing down” of skill and some of the newer maps (e.g. Tyrant) seem to promote it. There are just far more grenade toss tests, run around and bash people, and spray and pray with the AR.
Where has the “skill” gone? Actually having to know how to shoot for a headshot, which weapons to use for best effect, etc. Now on maps like Truth or Pegasus, it seems more possible to use the AR from across the map and get hits to kill. How is this possible? You look at the spread of the bullet pathways out of the AR for each burst and it increases in radius quite quickly so that by the time travels across a map, you may get 1 or 2 bullets still on target. But somehow you can get taken out by a standard AR from a very long distance.
Just getting tired of most maps looking like a punk “slam dance” between teams.
The AR is the only automatic in Tyrant, and the map is great. And I’d put it in my top 4 Halo 5 maps for FFA. Also spray and pray gets less effective when you play against it. Well time thrusts, distancing yourself, etc
EDIT I like precision gameplay btw
Pistol is love, pistol is life.
Let them spray and pray. They’ll only die with a 12.7mm round stuffed into their nasal passages
Because Halo isn’t about skill. Halo is about just having a good time shooting people, trying to push skill just makes the game far too unlikeable, if I wanted a game like that I’d play something else. Don’t lose track of what makes video games fun.
You guys killed skill in your pursuit of “balance”.

Skill. Easy games are usually uninteresting.

This.
So. Much. This.
the Assault rifle will for sure land you a lot of kills on that map.
There are a lot of corners and tight spaces, only an idiot doesn’t know when its best to use an AR over a pistol. Also if you’re getting killed from long-distances by ARs you need to work on your own skill level because you have plenty of options that include hitting them once to descope them or getting out of their line of sight. It isn’t like the AR kills in 5 headshots or something so there is more than enough time to react, especially on such a compact map like Tyrant.

I found one of the fans of only the new games.
I called from the beginning that the Spartan charge/AR combo would become the new sprint double melee from reach…and here we are
few things aggravate me as much as Spartan charge

the game is simultaneously as competitive as halo has been in the past while still having more weapon variety.
you talk about skill but don’t actually know what it means.

I am talking not about one-on-one’s, but rather you and your team are in a fight across the map and clearly if you have skill you would use a ranged weapon like the magnum, DMR, BR to get a kill. However, when I can just indiscriminately spray AR fire at a group from a long distance to get a kill, that is a little wonky.
I agree that Tyrant does have points where you get line of site to fire one on one, but there are lots of “kill boxes” and “pinch points” where movement is limited and you get nothing but people using grenades and spraying AR fire that is unfocused. It’s very frustrating having people on your team just rush into situations like this without a strategy and getting killed over and over while you try to draw out the enemy to get them.
