There’s a lot of confict among our community regarding many aspects of our beloved series, today I’d like to touch up on secondary weapons. As of now, and probably for the rest of Halo 4, there are only 3 secondary weapons to choose from.
Magnum: This weapon is a classic and has seen many changes in it’s campaign throughout Halo, possibly more than any other weapon. In Halo 4 it doesn’t pack too much of a punch, but it’s enough to kill someone, even at some decent range. It’s also a perfect choice to clean up a kill if your primary runs out and you need a quick switch to get that headshot. There are still some old school fans who may wish to see it returned to its former glory of the CE days, but I think it’s a fine weapon as is.
Boltshot: I have to aproach this one with some care, since this weapon has become notorious here on the forums. This weapon is a bit of a gambling mans gun, you invest in charging up your shot for a one hit kill, but if you miss you’re left vulnerable. The main two issues with this gun currently are charge damage and range. Many dispute if the weapon should be a one shot kill or just deplete sheilds. I wouldn’t mind the one shot IF this weapon didn’t have quite the range it currently has. As of now a charge shot can kill from 9-10 meters, that’s way to much in my book… Hopefully we’ll see some changes soon so close quarters combat isn’t so dependent on thi weapon.
Plasma Pistol: Another veteran weapon to the series, this sidearm used to be notorious in the aid of the “noob combo” It has since been tweaked to drain energy as it’s being charged and it’s homing capabilities have been dumbed down. This weapon definitely belongs in the secondary weapons category, but when able to spawn with the aid of sticky grenades, it can cause some serious vehicle user frustration.
Now to talk about other possibilities for secondary weapons that didn’t make the cut.
SMG: Any Halo 2 fan will remember this small carnage creator. It wasn’t great at taking out shields, but ate up health at a impressive rate. I don’t see why they wouldn’t want to have a fully automatic weapon as a secondary, unless they thought it would be shadowed by the option of a automatic primary. Regardless, many fans would have liked to see it return.
Mauler: Nothing feels quite the same as turning a corner and eating away at an enemy team with dual maulers. Since Halo 4 is only a single wield game, there wouldn’t be to much of an issue with this weapon. I feel if its clip size was slightly reduced this may have been a viable alternative to the boltshot.
Sentinal beam: This classic ancient weapon is no where to be seen in Halo’s latest installment. Typically thought of as a primary weapon, if it’s damage was balanced it could be an interesting secondary. Give it decent range, low damage, this weapon could be a good mid-range suppressor.
I’d love to hear my fellow Halo fans inputs on this subject. Leave any thoughts or ideas for secondary weapons you may have. Thanks for your time.
