Secondary Weapon on HUD confirmed out

NeoGAF post

Most people were thinking it was a bug that the secondary weapon wasn’t showing up, but Frankie explains why it’s intentional.

Thoughts?

Interesting. I never really noticed the secondary weapon was visible on the HUD before.

uh…

Oh i thought for some reason he was saying that secondaries (PP,magnum, etc) don’t show up in the HUD even if you have it out. eh not a big deal i guess.

I never look at it anyway. So it doesn’t but me at all.

I don’t forget what my sidearm is. Ever.

Fair enough. I definitely understand his reasoning.

Thanks for the news, Goat!
OT, “Boo! No explosion!”
What a terrible, and bummerfying excuse this is: We ain’t got no silhouettes.

Yeah I don’t really forget my secondary while I’m playing so its not a big deal

and his reasoning is totally understandable as well

So he’s talking about how much better it is for the visual design of the HUD, to be less cluttered for the players, yet they’re taking a step back by changing the HUD for your shields back to Halo 3? Which is even more distracting and keeps making me looking up every time someone gets shot.

I’m fine with it. He makes valid points. I can remember what I had without it being on the screen. HUD should be as simplified yet informative as possible. It’s a fine balance.

Its fine we will live without it…

Huh? The Shields in Halo 3 and Reach were almost the same, how can you “Step Back” in that regard?

No, the shields in Halo 3 deplete from right to left while in Reach they depleted from both sides towards the center.

oh god… good point, its so much easier to tell when you are in a bind, plus it looks better.

Right to left is the way to go IMO. Halo 3 had it right.

I go into a little more detail way back here.

Sure, reduce UI clutter by one item yet add useful ones like mid-screen text and, my personal favourite, ‘Carrying Flag’.

Just perplexing.

And why even bother with a silhouette of the weapon you’re holding?

Doesn’t matter to me. I always know what my secondary is, I never looked at the icon anyway.
